The first budget staff member I called was rude and didn't want to help me, other than giving me a phone number to call that was unavailable. " Budget sent me their final invoice by email after my return, in which without any comment or explanation they added Euro 50 plus VAT plus some handling charge(?) giving a total of Euro 70 for cleaning charge. I phoned to complain, and they claimed the car was returned in a very dirty condition and needed extra cleaning. This is untrue and they neither offered or provided evidence. I pointed out that I had rented the car for 3 weeks and given the length of hire period the car was in reasonable condition. They insisted I send them photos of the returned car ( I fortunately had taken some on returning the vehicle). They then 'backed off' and cancelled the charge. This was a cynical attempt at unjustified extra charging. Last year, I had another bad experience with Budget in Austria where the car received a fine for not showing an up to date Autobahn Vignette. Budget first claimed it was my responsibility and tried to pass the fine on to me. They later backed down and agreed it was their responsibility. I still have the correspondence. "
