    Campervan hire in Alicante

A popular seaside city on Spain’s sun-scorched Mediterranean coast, Alicante is a glittering jewel in the country’s tourism crown and one of Europe’s most sought-after cities.

The hub of a long stretch of sandy shoreline known as the Costa Blanca (White Coast), it is blessed with great shops and many lively tapas bars plus some of the loveliest beaches in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula.

Set on a high point overlooking the city centre, Alicante’s majestic old castle (known locally as Castillo de Santa Bárbara) houses a fascinating history museum and an original watchtower from which to enjoy the best views of the city.

The old quarter - El Barrio - is a labyrinth of winding streets encircling the city’s magnificent San Nicolás Cathedral. And once all the city sightseeing is done, head for the beaches – we recommend San Juan, Cabo de las Huertas, Almadraba, Albufereta, Postiguet, Urbanova or Agua Amarga – to soak up some of the Costa Blanca’s 3,000-plus hours of annual sunshine!

With a campervan hire in Alicante, you'll be ideally situated to see the best of the Costa Blanca, including the popular seaside resort of Benidorm and Guadalest, a picturesque mountain village blessed with a lofty castle and photogenic turquoise lake.

Founded over 60 years ago, Auto Europe is a leading car hire broker with over 24,000 pick-up and drop-off points in more than 180 different countries. Besides guaranteeing the lowest rates in the market, the company offers the widest range of vehicles and services, including motorhomes and luxury vehicles for hire.

A motorhome hire in Alicante is by far the most enjoyable and convenient way of visiting the beautiful Costa Blanca region and all other parts of Eastern Spain. For families and groups of friends, it is the perfect way of saving money on hotels and a fun way of exploring other parts of Spain's delightful Mediterranean coast, including Malaga and Barcelona.

    More information about Alicante

A popular harbour town since time immemorial, the name Alicante actually stems from the Arabic for 'City of Light', a fitting name for this peaceful, easy-going place set along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

Once a quaint old fishing village, the city exudes all the relaxed charm of southern Spain, with centuries of history and dozens of tourist attractions awaiting visitors travelling around in their campervan hire in Alicante.

First-time visitors to Alicante should literally head for the hills of Mount Benacantil by taking the elevator up to Santa Bárbara Castle for fine panoramic views over the historic centre and beyond. After that, a leisurely stroll around the city's lovely harbour serves as a natural prelude to a fascinating walk through the narrow streets of Barrio de Santa Cruz, arguably Alicante's most picturesque quarter.

More good news for tourists is the fact that there are dozens of excellent museums to visit, most notably the Alicante Archaeology Museum (MARQ) which houses local artefacts dating from 100,000 years ago to the early 20th century. For art lovers, the Gravina Museum of Fine Arts presents a number of paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 19th centuries, while the Asegurada Museum of Contemporary Art is a treasure trove of works from the 20th century.

Other essential sights in and around Alicante include the Gothic-style Basilica of Santa María built on the site of an old mosque and the 15th-century Monastery of Santa Faz located 3 miles outside the city.

Located 30 minutes south of Alicante, La Palmeral de Elche is a lovely green area with over 200,000 palm trees, making it the largest palm grove in Europe. Famous for its impressive garden (the Huerta del Cura), it was classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the age of its roots, some of which date back to the 1st millennium BC.
