Welcome to Lanzarote, the Spanish island famed for its eternal springtime and other-world scenery - a favourite holidaymaker's hideaway just off the West African coast. Lanzarote is part of the Canary Islands and is both the fourth largest and the easternmost island in this uniquely beautiful archipelago. The volcanic origins of the Canary Islands are due to the extraordinary and, at times, lunar-like landscape with black sand beaches forming part of Lanzarote's distinctive image. The old name for the island translates as 'ochre' which quite accurately depicts one of its most predominant colours.
What is the best way of seeing everything Lanzarote has to offer? A car hire from Lanzarote Airport offers visitors the chance to explore the island's vast range of possibilities. Some of the main highlights include almost 100 beaches ranging from black volcanic rock to fine stretches of white sand, a wonderful national park and a wide choice of artistic and cultural events. By choosing Auto Europe as your best option to rent a car at Lanzarote Airport, you are also selecting the company that offers the best rates on the market along with an extensive choice of vehicles. Lanzarote Airport is split into two terminals, Terminal 1 (the main terminal which opened in 2009) and Terminal 2 which is the older of the two and was expanded to host the Olympic Games in 1992. Nowadays, Terminal 2 mostly caters for low-cost and regional carriers. Lanzarote Airport gets busy during the summer months due to the influx of tourists holidaying in the Canary Islands. Terminal 1 handles the majority of airport's international flights, while Terminal 2 is used exclusively for flights between the Canary Islands.
Lanzarote Airport has a range of shopping and dining options, including several cafés and a restaurant with outdoor seating. There are several ATMs around the airport and a bureau de change at the Travel 2000 office on the second floor of Terminal 1. Duty-free shops and other stores feature a variety of products such as jewellery, fashion and food items. There are more limited shopping options in Terminal 2.
Passengers are welcome to use the airport's free Wi-fi service during the first 30 minutes of usage. In case of emergency, you will find first-aid facilities in Terminal 1 on the ground-floor of the Arrivals Hall. The airport provides easy access for the disabled as well as special areas just outside the arrivals and departures halls for picking up or dropping off disabled passengers. Business travellers and club card-holders are welcome to relax in the VIP lounge located opposite boarding gates 1 and 2 in Terminal 1.
The island's capital is well linked to the airport by a bus service (Route 22) operating only from Monday to Friday, except on public holidays. The bus stop is located in front of the Arrivals Hall in both terminals. Route 23 is another service that connects the airport with Playa Honda and operates only on Sundays and public holidays. The two other bus routes serve Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. Taxies are also available outside the arrivals area. If you decide you want more freedom and mobility with a car hire at Lanzarote Airport, then why not pick up your vehicle and drive it to Puerto del Carmen about 10 minutes away via the LZ-2, after which you join the LZ-40 and keep driving with the resort appearing on your right.
Both terminals at Lanzarote Airport have excellent parking possibilities and covered car parks. The P1 parking area is used for domestic and international flights, as it is close to Terminal 1. The P2 car park is the best option for inter-island flights due to its very close proximity to Terminal 2.
The same rules for driving and parking apply as in the rest of Spain. It is not allowed to leave your car on blue, yellow and white lines on the road. Although it may not be indicated, you are prohibited from parking your car in front of dust bins as it will be in the way of refuse collectors and might be towed away. To avoid any misunderstandings and hefty fines, aim to park your car hire in designated car parks whenever possible.
