Ljubljana Central Station is the main train station in the Slovenian capital. It is also one of the major railway hubs in the country welcoming in thousands of tourists per year. The station was built in 1848 and it wasn’t until 1980 that it was renovated to its present state. With five platforms, this train station provides railway links between Vienna, Trieste and Zurich. Located right in the heart of the city, it is only a short walk into central Ljubljana and the Ljubljanica River. The station itself is consisted of one main building. Within it has large waiting rooms and many facilities for a pleasant trip.
Car rental desks can be found in the main building of the train station or directly outside the building crossing over the road. There are many car hire suppliers to choose from, Europcar and Sixt Car being just two examples. As the station is in the centre of the city, driving your car to your accommodation should be straightforward and easy. This is one reason many opt to rent a car at Ljubljana Train Station instead of at Ljubljana International Airport.
Before arriving at the car rental desk, make sure you have your document to hand. These include your identification, car rental voucher, driving licence (including an International Driving Permit, if required), and a credit card. The credit card must be under the main driver’s name and contain enough funds for a deposit to be held on it. The deposit will be released back onto the same card once the car has been returned. Inspect the vehicle upon pick-up, noting anything of concern on the pick-up slip and if possible, taking photographic and video evidence. When you drop-off the car, make sure a member of staff reinspects the car and signs it off as okay. Only then will the deposit be released.
