    Driving Licence Requirements

    In order to drive a hire car in Slovenia you must be at least 18 years old and have a full driving licence valid in your country of residence.

    Age Restrictions

    When driving in Slovenia in a hire car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge.

    • Ljubljana to Maribor - 126kms (1hour/25mins)

    • Maribor to Bled - 181kms (1hour/55mins)

    Road Rules and Petrol Stations

    General Slovenia driving information, laws rules and regulations:

    • Driving in Slovenia is on the right hand side of the road.

    • Seat belts when driving a hire car in Slovenia are mandatory.

    • You must be at least 12 years old to sit in the front of a car.

    • The use of a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with the exception of a hands-free system.

    • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver’s licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

    • Dipped headlights must be used at all times when driving in Ljubljana and other parts of Slovenia.

    • Petrol stations in Slovenia open from 7am to 8 pm with some stations in major cities and on the highway open 24 hours.

    Tolls

    The A10/E70, A1/E63 and the A10/E57 highways are subject to a Slovenia toll payment.

    Parking Information

    In major cities, it is best to park in a garage or open parking lot. Street parking is divided in zones and it is necessary to purchase a parking voucher, usually from newstands or automatic ticket machines. The Slovenia parking vouchers are valid for one-hour only but you can buy several for as many hours you require. Parking in a garage gives you more security and freedom and if you intend on leaving the car in Bled parked in a garage or parking lot overnight, extra charges may apply.

    One-Way Car Hire

    Domestic one-way car hire is unrestricted and free of charge. International one-way rentals incur additional drop fees. If you plan to drive with a Slovenia car hire you can pick it up in one location and return it to another location but there are some restrictions that you need to check with your car hire supplier.
