Covering 14,000 square-metres, Montpellier Airport's modern terminal building is divided into two large sections, one for departures and the other for arrivals. It has 13 aircraft parking stands and is designed to cater for between two and three million passengers movements every year.
Being an international airport in a popular holiday region, Montpellier Airport offers a full range of on-site passenger facilities, including a crèche, large Duty-free shop, estate agency and several bars and restaurants. There are multiple lounges and a free Wi-Fi Internet service is availale throughout the entire airport. ATM machines are plentiful and several airport hotels. are located nearby. There's also a children's playground on the upper level of the departures area, along with baby-changing facilities. Espace Mediterranee is a popular store selling produce of the region, including fine wines and olive oil. Reserved parking is available for the disabled and the airport is wheelchair accessible with lifts providing access to all levels of the terminal building. There are also wheelchair accessible toilets and telephone kiosks for passengers of reduced mobility.
The busy A9 motorway is close to the airport, which makes it very easy to pick up and drop off a car hire at Montpellier Airport via junction 29 (follow the signs for Montpellier-Est. The distance to the centre of Montpellier is a few kilometres, which takes around 20 minutes by car. An airport shuttle service operates between the centre and the airport, stopping at the centrally-located Place de l'Europe in the city's Antigone district. To get there by tramway, take line 1 or 2 and get off at Place de l'Europe (the shuttle journey takes around 25 minutes). Opened in 2017, the city's modern TGV train station is situated just 2 kilometres from the airport. Taxis are available at the airport terminal and buses leave every half hour or so for Montpellier.
Parking in the city centre can be expensive, especially in the areas around Montpellier's low-emissions zone (known as the ZFE) into which most vehicles cannot enter at certain times of the day. However, several conveniently located overflow car parks exist on the outskirts of the city which are linked to the tram lines, with around 5,000 available parking spaces in these P+Tram car parks. Montpellier has six public car parks with 24-hour access as well as many features such as charging stations and spaces reserved for drivers of limited mobility. Prices vary according to the hours of parking, but in total there are more than 3,400 spaces available. With more than 2,000 spaces, passengers can also rent a car at Montpellier Airport and park it at the on-site long-, medium- or short-stay car parks and travel into the city using the public transport system.
