    Airport Information

    New York JFK Airport (JFK)
Official Name: John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Address: New York, Queens, NY 11430.
Airlines operating at JFK Airport: There are more than 70 airlines flying in and out of the airport. JFK is a hub for American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, as well as the main operating base for JetBlue Airways. American Airlines, British Airways, Delta, Norwegian, and Virgin Atlantic operate direct flights from UK airports.

There are six terminals at New York JFK Airport: Terminals 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8. Terminal 1 operates flights of mainly Asian and African airlines. Terminal 2 is used primarily by Delta Air Lines, while Terminal 4 is the main terminal for international arrivals from Asian, African and European airlines, as well as Delta. Exclusively North American flights fly out of Terminal 5. Terminal 7 is operated by British Airways and Terminal 8 is home to American Airlines and Oneworld partner airlines.

The AirTrain service allows passengers to move between terminals with ease. There are also stops at airport car parks, hotel areas and car hire shuttle areas. The AirTrain is free to use and operates 24 hours.

All terminals at JFK Airport have a similar layout: the arrivals level is located closest to the entrance to the building, from which one can access the departures level using escalators. After the security checkpoint, passengers enter the concourse, which houses the boarding gates. Note that in Terminal 4 the concourse level is split into A and B boarding gates, and in Terminal 8 into B and C boarding gates.

Car hire Pick up and Drop off

Picking up your car hire at New York JFK Airport should be no hassle at all. In each terminal, you will be able to find either the car rental desks or a car rental courtesy phone for picking up your car hire. The courtesy phone will have instructions for contacting your specific supplier. Once you have finished all formalities at the car rental company's desk, you should generally head to Federal Circle Station using the AirTrain to find the car itself. Auto Europe's partner car hire suppliers Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, National and Hertz all have their offices open 24 hours a day, seven days a week at JFK Airport.

    Airport Facilities

JFK Airport offers a dizzying amount of shops, food outlets and other services. Each terminal has a wide array of places to either grab a quick bite to eat or sit down for a proper meal. Various cafés, fast food restaurants, wine bars, bistros and international food from sushi to French cuisine are on offer. Visitors will also be able to pass the time browsing through the many shops at the airport, from travel goods to duty free deals and luxury brands. One can even enjoy an express spa treatment for an instant pick-me-up! Free Wi-Fi access is available in every terminal for the first 30 minutes.

Transportation / How to get to the airport

JFK Airport is a good place to start a visit to the USA, as it is well connected to the road network on the eastern coast. To get from the airport to Manhattan in New York City, drive via Atlantic Avenue and with no traffic you should reach your destination in 40 minutes. You can visit Stamford over the state border in Connecticut by following the I-678 N and I-95 N for about an hour. Heading south on the I-95 instead, you can drive to Philadelphia in just over two hours. As many motorways require the payment of tolls, check with your car hire company as to how you should pay for these. More information can be found on our driving information page for the USA.

The airport is also connected to the public transportation network of New York City via the AirTrain service, which has connections to Jamaica Station and Howard Beach Station. Bus lines from the airport also connect travellers to the New York Subway and Long Island Rail Road systems. Buses B15, Q10 and Q3, for example, make stops at the Central Terminal Area.

    Parking Tips

Those wishing to drive their car hire close to popular tourist attractions in Manhattan will need both luck and patience in order to find on-street parking. For peace of mind, it may be better to park at one of the many paid car parks in the city. If you do find a parking space by the street, make careful note of any signs. Parking in some spaces may be temporarily prohibited due to street cleaning, for example.
