Station Information

Built in 1987 alongside the old East Station, Oslo Train Station is a bright, modern transport hub designed to cope with the high demands of the modernday traveller. Oslo Train Station is a large, gleaming building with a whole host of modern amenities and travel facilities, which is just what you might expect from the Norwegian authorities. Right next door to the station is , you will find Østbanehallen, a bustling food court housed in the oldest part of the building. Here you'll find a wide range of restaurants, cafés, small shops and an efficient travel and tourist information centre. How to get to and from Oslo Central station

Jernbanetorget Square (where the station is located) is part of the biggest transport hub in Norway, so getting there to pick up your car rental at Oslo Train Station will not be a problem. You can travel there by bus, tram, local train and metro, the latter being the most popular way of travelling around the Norwegian cpaital. Right next to Oslo Train Station you'll find Jernbanetorget metro station which is served by all six of Oslo's underground lines. Along with the city's main bus station being located close by in Galleri Oslo, within a short walking distance of the station, direct trains run between Oslo Train Station and the airport operated by the Flytoget Airport Express Train service which departs every 10-20 minutes, depending on the time of day. Oslo Sentralstasjon (which means Central Station) certainly lives up to its name by being extremely central, and from there you can visit much of the city on foot. In fact, there are several walking routesaround the station so you will have no difficulty getting around on foot. The main Karl Johans Gate is a pedestrian-friendly street that connects the station with the Royal Palace and along the way , it passes the National Theatre and Oslo Cathedral, so it's worth taking a stroll if the weather's fine.

Parking tips

The city's car parks are divided into zones with varying prices and time constraints. In the city centre (and around Oslo Train Station) you will always have to buy a ticket from Monday to Saturday (9am–8pm), but outside of these hours it is usually free. In the streets outside the city centre, there are a few free parking zones. Some of the best car parks for tourists who rent a car at Oslo Train Station and plan to visit the main attractions include Oslo City Parking Garage (operated by Aimo Park), Dalsbergstien Parking Garage (operated by Time Park) and Oslo S Parking Garage (operated by OnePark), the latter being open right next to Oslo Train Station and open 24/7. It also has eight charging stations for electric cars and can be accessed through the station's Dronning Eufemias exit.
