Car Hire at Perugia Train Station - The Best of Central Italy

Perugia Train Station (known locally as Stazione di Perugia) is the main rail transportation facility serving the city and a large district of the region of Umbria in central Italy. Originally opened in 1866, it forms part of the Foligno–Terontola railway, which also links Florence with Rome, two of Italy's largest and most important cities. About 50 trains call at the station each day, mostly from Firenze Santa Maria Novella, Terontola-Cortona, Foligno and Roma Termini.

The station caters for approximately three million passenger movements every year mainly through regional rail services, along with regular InterCity departures to Milan and the occasional Eurostar service. Regional services at Perugia Train Station are operated by Ferrovia Centrale Umbra which sub-contracts on behalf of Trenitalia, while InterCity and long-distance services are operated by Trenitalia itself.

Located on a mountain pass in the heart of Italy, the ancient city of Perugia is worth exploring at any time of the year. Most of the key landmarks can be found in Piazza IV Novembre, an ancient square with centuries of history. Here you can find San Lorenzo Cathedral and Fontana Maggiore fountain which dates back to the 13th century. Other highlights include Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria (home to many old masterpieces) and the ruins of the Rocca Paolina Fortress.

With a car hire from Perugia Train Station you'll have the whole of Italy's enchanting Umbria region within striking distance. One of the most popular day-trip options is the city of Assisi which sits serenely along the slopes of Mount Subasio. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, Assisi is most notable as the birthplace of Saint Francis. Perugia is also just 152 kilometres (95 miles) south-east of Florence which takes just under two hours to reach by car.
