Car hire at Torp Sandefjord Airport - Visiting Oslo and Southern Norway

Sandefjord Airport (TRF) is a major Norwegian airport, located on the west side of the Oslofjord. It is linked with Oslo Gardermoen airport, serving mostly low-cost and charter carriers flying to destinations across Europe. Widerøe is one of the main airlines operating at the airport, along with KLM and major low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air which both provide a range of international services throughout Europe.

Located just 7 kilometres outside the Norwegian city of Sandefjord and 110 kilometres south-east of the Norwegian capital, Oslo, the airport operates as both a regional airport for the country's enchanting Vestfold og Telemark region and as a mid-budget airport for Eastern Norway as a whole. Besides regular domestic departures to to Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim, TRF serves a wide range of popular European cities like Alicante, Amsterdam, Malaga, Mallorca, Milan, Nice, Vienna and Rhodes.

Boasting miles of glorious coastline and a rich historical heritage, Sandefjord is a pleasant seaside resort and a popular holiday destination for locals and foreigners alike. The Vikings lived in the area around 1,000 years ago and today's visitors can sense their presence in many of the local buildings and attractions. Tourism highlights include the Whaling Museum (one of only a few in Europe) and an excellent art gallery known as the Sandefjord Art Association.

With a car hire at Sandefjord Airport you can explore its long coastline and relax on its many beaches during the summer months. An hour-and-a-half’s drive north-east of Sandefjord lies Oslo, which is home to many first-rate cultural attractions, including the Viking Ship Museum whose star exhibit is the Gokstad, a 9th-century Viking ship (and the largest ever) which was found in a burial mound in Sandefjord in 1880. A popular road-trip option is a drive along the coast from Sandefjord to Kristiansand with a relaxing lunch stopover along the way.

    Airport Information

Originaly built as a military airbase, Sandefjord Airport became a civil airport quite soon after its opening in 1956. Currently one of two airports in the Greater Oslo area catering for low-costs flights (the other being Rygge), it gradualy developed as a regional airport and features a 2,989-metre runway and a large, modern terminal to house both the arrivals and departures areas. Conveniently located 80 kilometres to the south-west of Oslo, the airport also functions as the base for the European Helicopter Centre and the Pilot Flight Academy for fixed-wing education.
