Stockholm Skavsta Airport is the fifth largest airport in Sweden and the fourth busiest in the country. Although not located in the county of Stockholm, it is regarded as one of the main low-cost air routes into southern Stockholm. The airport was originally dedicated to military use until 1980 when it started to offer civil aviation. The airport is often used for head of government flights due to its proximity to governmental residences. Terminals

The airport consists of two asphalt runways and one main terminal which contains all the necessary services and facilities for a safe and secure onward journey The maximum capacity is 2.5 million with room for expansion if needed in the future. The terminal contains an arrivals hall, a departure lounge, security screening area, customs, check-in desks, departure gates and a luggage reclaim area. The airport was originally a military facility, but in 1980 it became a civilian airport to alleviate air traffic from Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Within its one terminal you can benefit from free Wi-Fi up to 30-minutes – afterwards you can buy data bundles of 1, 3 or 24-hours. How to get to and from Stockholm Skavsta Airport

Reaching the airport isn’t too problematic with a variety of public transport options available. Outside the terminal you will find a taxi rank. Official taxis have a taxi sign upon their roof and are metred. We do recommend speaking with the driver beforehand to ascertain the estimated cost to your journey. Also, outside the terminal you’ll find a coach and bus station. With departures every hour, it will take approximately 90-minutes to get from the airport to the city bus terminal in Stockholm. Buses are also available for Linköping, Norrköping and Södertälje. The closest railway station is around 4 miles away in Nyköping.

Parking Tips

There are short-term and long-term car parking options at the airport. It is easy to reach the airport terminal on foot from all the car parks. The short-term car park is located outside the terminal. It has a maximum of 6-hours parking. A passenger drop-off area is available directly outside the terminal.

Free on-street parking in the city centre is hard to find, it is therefore better to seek out an official car park with good rates in the centre. Car parks are mainly found in Norrmalm, with the area having easy access across the city. Paid on-street parking is available and you should pay the meter beforehand. Meters accept coins and bank cards. It is important to display the ticket clearly inside your vehicle windscreen. Pay attention to any signage that may indicate a residential parking area or those reserved for commercial parking. The city has a park-&-ride scheme.
