The airport consists of two asphalt runways and one main terminal which contains all the necessary services and facilities for a safe and secure onward journey The maximum capacity is 2.5 million with room for expansion if needed in the future. The terminal contains an arrivals hall, a departure lounge, security screening area, customs, check-in desks, departure gates and a luggage reclaim area. The airport was originally a military facility, but in 1980 it became a civilian airport to alleviate air traffic from Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
The airport has all the necessary facilities for a pleasant and stress-free wait. Within its one terminal you can benefit from free Wi-Fi up to 30-minutes – afterwards you can buy data bundles of 1, 3 or 24-hours. Other available facilities include an airport information desk, luggage trolleys, a business lounge, ATM cash machines, a conference area, a currency exchange desk, luggage storage and a lost & found area. There is also a duty-free shop and a Nordic kitchen bar. Restrooms can be found throughout the terminal, along with a police office, a smoking area and facilities for disabled travellers.
Reaching the airport isn’t too problematic with a variety of public transport options available. Outside the terminal you will find a taxi rank. Official taxis have a taxi sign upon their roof and are metred. We do recommend speaking with the driver beforehand to ascertain the estimated cost to your journey. Also, outside the terminal you’ll find a coach and bus station. With departures every hour, it will take approximately 90-minutes to get from the airport to the city bus terminal in Stockholm. Buses are also available for Linköping, Norrköping and Södertälje. The closest railway station is around 4 miles away in Nyköping.
Some customers opt to rent a car at Stockholm Skavsta Airport and drive to their destination. From the airport you can easily access the E4 motorway, which provides an easy route both to Helsingborg and Stockholm. There are short-term and long-term car parking options at the airport.
