    Location: The airport is five miles south of the city centre in the suburb of Mascot, Sydney.
    Airlines operating at Sydney Airport: More than 43 international airlines and 46 domestic airlines fly to Sydney Airport. Some of the airlines flying here are British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, Lufthansa, Iberia, and Air France.


    Sydney Airport consists of three terminals, located next to each other. Terminal 1 is the international terminal and Terminal 2 and 3 are the domestic terminals. The arrivals lobby and baggage reclaim carousels are on the ground floor, whereas check-in desks and security check are on the first floor. Boarding gates are on both floors. There are plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants in the terminals, along with children's play areas where the little ones can run off some energy before you depart or after you arrive.

    Airport Facilities

    Sydney Airport has great shopping opportunities and plenty of facilities for eating and drinking whilst waiting on your flight. The airport offers free Wi-Fi throughout, if you want catch up on some emails before take off. There are plenty of shopping opportunities on the ground floor, and the majority of restaurants are in the food court before going through customs. Sydney Airport also offers shower facilities located within the international terminal.

    Transportation / How to get to the airport

    If you are heading straight towards Sydney after picking up your car hire, you can simply drive along the M1 for about 11 miles, and you should get to the city centre in about 19 minutes. Driving towards Melbourne will take you about 11 hours on the Hume Highway and Hume Freeway. More information on driving in Australia can be found here.

    There are a few ways to get to Sydney using public transport from the airport. You can make the journey by bus: Route 400 travels between the terminals, with the bus stops clearly marked outside the arrivals level at each terminal. You can also take the train airport link to Sydney, which would take you 13 minutes. In the international terminal, the station is located at the north end of the terminal and is accessible from the Arrivals level. The domestic terminal's railway station is located directly between T2 and T3 and is accessible from with the terminals at the Arrivals level. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes. The airport link runs directly to the City Circle line, which then connects you to most city destinations. Sydney Airport also offers you the possibility to cycle into Sydney - bicycle racks can be found at both ends of the international terminal building, for T2 and T3 the racks are located on Fifth Street.

    Parking Tips

    Sydney offers two central car parks in Sydney and Kings Cross, and you will find other off-street car parks in local areas. About one quarter of the on-street parking is meter parking. Some take credit cards and mobile phone payments, however please ensure you have lots of coins in the car just in case. The charge varies depending on how long and where you are parking, and whether it is day or night.
