Trapani Airport (TPS)
Official Name: Vincenzo Florio Airport Trapani-Birgi
Italian Name: Aeroporto Vincenzo Florio di Trapani-Birgi
Address: Contrada Birgi, 91100 Trapani, Italy
Location: The airport is situated between the towns of Trapani and Marsala, about 9 miles south of the former.
Airlines operating at Trapani Airport: Alitalia offers seasonal domestic flights from Milan and Rome, while the majority of flights to Trapani Airport are operated by Ryanair, which offers seasonal flights from Manchester and numerous other domestic and European destinations.
Trapani Airport presently serves as both a military and civilian airport. Air traffic to the airport increased significantly when Ryanair began to operate several international routes to Trapani, and in 2009, the airport experienced major expansion works. These included moving the departures area to the first floor of the terminal, increasing the number of boarding gates, and creating more space for dining and shopping facilities.
The airport has a compact layout, with arrivals and check-in counters on the ground floor, and departures now located on the first floor. Security check is also found on the first floor, as are information desks.
Many car rental companies have their desks in the arrivals hall. You can see them towards the right side of the hall when you exit baggage reclaim. However, make sure to note any information related to the location of your rental supplier you see on our booking engine, in the terms and conditions, and on your voucher.
Do not confuse the Italian supplier Auto Europa/Sicily By Car with Auto Europe. We are a broker, and therefore do not have desks at pick-up locations. Auto Europa, on the other hand, is a car hire supplier, but may not be the supplier of your rental. Note the company supplying your rental on your voucher, and head to their desk.

Driving to Trapani is simple once you have picked up your car hire from Trapani Airport. Follow the A29dir and then drive along SS115, and you should be in central Trapani in about 20 minutes. If you wish to head south towards Marsala instead, the town can be reached via the SP21 in 25 minutes. Palermo is a bit farther away, but still a manageable driving distance away: head east on the A29dir and then the E90 for 72 miles, and the drive should take about an hour and a half. For your convenience, we have put together some more information on driving in Italy in our driving guide.
Public transport is provided directly from the airport in the form of buses, operated by Salemi. Routes include Trapani and Palermo, for example. Taking a taxi to either the port or railway station of Trapani and continuing your journey from there is also a possibility.
If you want to park your car hire on the street in Trapani, make note of the colour of the lines on the parking space. If they are white, parking is free of charge, and if they are blue, parking is chargeable. Be careful not to leave any items in the car if you park on the street, and make sure that your rental car is in a safe place overnight, in particular. Parking in car parks may be a safer option; a free car park should be available at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.
