First time hiring a pure electric car so could have been given more information at pickup around charging, using charger in Denmark and arrangements around drop off I.e. only need to bring back with 70% charge. On return they tried to charge me for pre-existent damage. As I took photos, I could demonstrate that it was already there and their request for an extra charge was cancelled . What was disappointing about this experience is that if there was new damage they included detailed repairs costs plus a penalty in their email bringing up the issue but as the car I got had damage already, then I can only assume that they charge the money but then don't make the repairs. As such I was disappointed that the handovers did not include a human inspection by the company and myself. "

" This comment is for AutoEurope and not Europcar, please do send on to the agent as this can effect the customer experince. Please make sure that you understand the regulation around IDP's. I emailed autoeurope whether I need a IDP having a UK licence to drive in Denmark. From the UK government website it clearly states that there is no IDP required for persons with a UK driving licence to drive in Denmark. I emailed this information as autoeurope as it states on the website that is mandatory to have an IDP. This is information is in correct and false, in my rental and country. However, autoeurope insisted that I needed and IDP. I then got an IDP but not for Denmark as it is not required by the law of Denmark and UK. When I arrived to pick up the car from Europcar, the customer service operator indicated that there was no need for an IDP. Therefore, I had to waste my time to get an IDP not for Denmark and pay additional cost that was totally unnecessary. I must remind autoeurope that neither autoeurope and Europcar do not have legal judication to override the law of land where there is no legitimate cause or right to enforce mandatory IDP's. This is misleading and causses unnecessary cost and time wasting for the customer. Please do you due diligence and get it correct. "

" This was my reply to their email 23 hours after drop off... Dear Mia. Thank you for your email. I did not complete a report form because I was not aware of the damage and do not accept responsibility for it. Unfortunately I do not having any photos of the hire car when i picked it up as this was the 2nd hire car we had from you during the rental period as I had to return the 1st car because a pre existing chip in the windscreen had been distracting me when I was driving in the sun after some rain. Also as we were catching a flight I didn't pause to take photos when we returned the car. So I cannot prove my innocence. But there is circumstantial evidence which I believe points to me being innocent. Firstly, when we dropped the car off at 8.10am on 27/12/23 it was not dark, it was twilight. So when your staff member checked the car, with a flashlight for extra clarity, he should have been able to observe the dent. But he didn't, and said to us "the car has no new damage". When your own staff member spends extensive time to check the car and doesn't find a dent, this should carry significant weight. If the dent was there (and i don't believe it was) and your staff member didn't see it (because I believe the car was in excellent shape), they need more training, but we should not be penalised. Secondly, I am convinced I did not cause any damage and either the dent was there before we received the car (and i didn't see it) or it was damaged after we returned it. You are very thorough in identifying scratches before a car is rented out so i assume that the dent was made after we returned the car. The photos which were sent were taken in broad daylight, much later than the twilight when we returned it. This must have been a significant period of time (especially as the email was sent almost 24 hours after the car was returned), so someone/ something could have dented the car whilst it was parked in your car park. So on the balance of probability and reasonableness I don't think we should have to pay a fine or the admin fee. So now you have a choice - to either close the case and delete the fine, or to make us pay. But as you make this decision please bear in mind that we visit Copenhagen regularly, as my wife is Danish, and we normally rent a car from the airport. We also rent cars when we fly to different countries. However, if you decide to inflict this unjust fine on us I will never rent from you again as my trust in europcar will have been broken and cannot recommend you to anyone else. On collecting the car the exterior, whilst undamaged, was extremely dusty & streaked, unclear if it hadn't been washed between hires or had been parked for so long the dust had accumulated. Drove round to their maintenance garage where we were advised by desk staff that the child seat would be fitted, however the staff at the garage had no knowledge of the hire seat and which would be suitable for our baby. The child seats weren't Isofix and were quite work, with the foam & fabric peeling/coming off. They were also stored in the vehicle-washing bay so had lots of spray marks, streaks & damp smell. I was left to fit it myself which wasn't a comfortable experience fitting an unfamiliar car seat in an unfamiliar country in their car park. "

I had to point out that during the whole hire we had not used the back seat, either for people or luggage, so that the damage probably existed prior to our hire and had not been picked up in the pre-hire inspection. As a result the extra charge has been waived, but maybe they do need to improve their checks. "

" At Copenhagen Airport we informed the staff that we would be going across the Bridge to Sweden. We were told that Europcar would take care of this and charged my card for the toll. When we got to the bridge we could not pass. We had to pay on my credit card to get through. the guy on the bridge informed us that this was a common problem with Europcar! I called the Copenhagen office and let them know, they assured me that the return would be ok and that I would be re-imbursed for the extra that I had had to pay. I eventually received a final invoice and money was returned to my card, however I could not make any sense of the invoice as the final invoice bore little similarity to the original. So I have no idea if I have been fairly refunded. I cannot be bothered to phone and try and haggle out all of the details for the sake of a few pounds. I will however use a different company next time. "

" A long initial wait for the car pickup as there were none of the size I had booked available on my arrival. It took about two hours to eventually drive off. Also though stated as an airport Rental, the car rental buildings are a bus shuttle ride away. You should factor this in as bags etc have to be moved on and off the shuttle. "

" I had issues collecting the car as it wasn't in the bay it was supposed to be and even when looking for staff in the pick up area they weren't very helpful. Except a Romanian guy from Hertz who help me out. The drop off was unmanned and I had to return my keys to the airport. SO when I received a damage claim the next day (which I maintain the small dent was on the car when I collected it and is on the damage report in the same place) I was extremely unhappy. I have disputed the claim, but also feel that it is imperative for the vehilce to be inspected with the customer when it its returned and I was informed that there would be an attendant until 10pm, when I arrived at 8pm there was no staff and a sign that said return the keys to the rental office. "

I have never rented a car during the winter where that has not been provided as a safety measure.. we experienced ice and snow over the rental period incl ice on the windows when I picked it up at midnight. Luckily it was thin enough for the heater to melt it but any thicker and I would have been stuck in the airport at midnight without being able to clear the windows properly. It also didn't have a parking dial. Which exposed me to the risk of parking fines on several occasions. " I discovered that I only had 90km a day limit. This is three quarters of an hour driving on the motorway per day. Europcar's website says there is a €2.44 charge per kilometre in excess. That is excessive and also incorrect, it turns out to be DKK 2.44. Although much less than than the euro value, it still left me having to pay over a hundred euros. I actually abandoned the car for a period and took the train to cut down on excessive mileage. I've never encountered such a low limit before and rarely in fact had a limit at all. Exceptionally disappointing. They also charged for a higher mileage than actually driven, though they corrected the statement they haven't yet corrected the deduction from my credit card. Will not be using the service again and I've shot a warning over Facebook to save friends from europcar's policy. AutoEurope could have made the limited mileage more prominent, considering its highly unusual and exceptionally pricey. "

The phone numbers given to me on the paperwork were useless, they all either told me that the office was closed or went straight to voicemail despite the Billund office's opening times saying that they should have been open. I eventually spoke to someone Aarhus after finding a number by trying to call a different office's number I'd found online. The person on the phone was great and managed to sort out a repair service to come and fix the tire. The car rental itself was nice apart from the tire issue and the person from Aarhus who I spoke to was great however I was not happy about the fact that Europcar had essentially stranded me in a foreign country with no way of getting help. Most of them proved to be professionals, honest and their cars are in very good shape. My very first experience with Sixt has been stressful that left me with a very bitter taste. I picked up a car during the night and given a list of demages on the car, these demages were cosmetic hence car was in working condition. However, I drove off and returned the car on the expected returned date/time with 60km of mileage. The clerk who checked the car in found 2 very minor scratches that were not on his list neither were on my list BUT these were NOT fresh scratches. He would not accept and suggested that Sixt expert will examine the damage and I will be contacted. Its been a week now, I have not heard anything whether I will get my deposit back or what I would be charged for those scratches. "

" Cars do break down but I spent about two hours on the phone speaking to Sixt, then to their 24 hour recovery service and then again to Sixt. It was very frustrating. No Sixt closer to where I was staying had a car so they wanted me to drive two hours away to get a new car (the recovery services told me that they would not cover any additional recovery over 24 hours so Sixt was keen that I change it). I felt that I should not have been charged for the full six days.... "

When arriving at the car lease office I was treated by a lovely lady who informed me that they had upgraded my car form a Hyundai i30 to an VW Passat. I failed to notice this condition, because I was expecting a standard voucher, and therefore I had to pay for extra kilometers at the end. Please indicate clearly and more prominently in your vouchers when a rent has capped milage, it is a key aspect that cannot get lost in the small print of a booking. "

" I arrived at the desk while hired a Mercedes, I was told that the only vehicle available was a Qashqai. I argued it was nowhere near close to what I ordered. Had to upgrade just to get something they advertised I would get in the first place. Even after that, it turned out it was station wagon which I specifically told I didn't want. Another 20 mins before I got the car I drove away in. The sales representative just handed me the key and said to check for damages and the car seat for my son was located in a van. It took me about an hour and half to locate and strap the child seat into the car. The pick-up place was notoriously badly lit and I couldn't find anything wrong but when handed it back a tiny scratch was found. Which I am adamant I did not cause. The person I dropped it off with said it looked like an old scratch. And he mentioned to me that the guy walked straight over to the mark in pitch of night. "

So had to return keys to the hire centre which means dragging luggage all the way back to the centre to return the keys and then to bus stop to get back to Airport Building. So Hertz customer service is totally non existent for vehicle return, they rely on customers to do their work while they site in nice warm building. Never again!!!!!! " Being unhappy with the way Budget helped themselves to a bit of extra income in a cheeky way, I complained to AutoEurope of the day of picking up the car and was sent a link that I could use to complain once the rental had finished. I would have preferred an immediate reply as I was considering handing the car back and wanting to know where I stood on this. "
" When picking up the car, the sales assistant made me aware that the car didn't come with winter tyres and informed me that I would have to pay extra if I wanted winter tyres on the car. Given that the Danish winter usually comes with minus degrees and it was snowing the day before, I of course wanted to add the winter tyres to the reservation (the majority of Danish cars are fitted with winter tyres from October till April) and was charged an extra 50 dkr per day x 12 days for this. I of course accepted the extra fee. HOWEVER, she then told me that I would have to upgrade from a class C car to a class G car to get a car with winter tyres and charged me an extra 475 dkr for this! When I objected I was told that it was either summer tyres (with no grip in wintery conditions) or the upgrade at an extra charge. In the end I agreed to the upcharge as I desperately needed the car during Christmas and didn't want to risk it ending up in a ditch somewhere. I was - and still am - incredibly annoyed with the forced upgrade. Not only because of the extra fee, but also because the car I got was HUGE and not ideal for parking in the city... So while there was nothing wrong with the car, I am unlikely to hire a car through budget again because of their way of 'selling up'. "

" When picking up my car car, counter staff told me that I could not have unlimited miles, but only 100km/day. They said it is not possible for a resident in Denmark to get unlimited miles. I insisted that since my voucher indicated unlimited miles and since AutoEurope knew I was a resident in Denmark, I must have as indicated in the voucher. They "made an exception in this case", but said it would not be possible in the future. Also they added a "Road Side Assistance" fee, because I was taking the car to Sweden. When booking the car on the AutuEurope web-site, I mentioned the car should be used in Sweden. Actually, the car was on request", because it should go to Sweden. The compulsory "Road Side Assistance" (not an add-on option) fee should be included in the rental fee and not bargained at pick up. It is a hassle to discuss conditions with counter staff, when you really have no options at that time. I chose the specific car because of the conditions and the price. This should then not be renegotiated when picking up the car at the airport. Alamo (or rather Enterprise) were supposed to block 5.100 DKK (610 GBP) on my credit card. They didn't, they withdrew it and only returned it 8 days after the rental ended. "

" As it was my fault about the wrong flight return details, I do not blame Auto Europe. The only problem I have is that Budget was so unhelpful after I finally spent three days trying to get through to them. "
" I realised I had booked the car one day short of what I need, so when I got to the Budget desk and realised I had put the wrong return date down, I tried to change it and extend the return date by 24 hours. This was a problem and as he was so busy on the desk, he asked me to phone in later to extend it. It was impossible to get through to the airport desk later that day and for the next two days there was no-one manning the phone. It rang three times and the cut off. Finally we got through as someone from Budget Barcelona helped us. They wanted and extra £150 for the day extension even though I pointed out to them the previous 13 days had only cost £170. There was nothing they could do and I would have to drive back to the airport, pay the £150 and then I could keep it the extra day. Needless to say I returned the car when it was due and stayed the night in Copenhagen and had a lovely time there, which was cheaper than £150. "

There was only one operative for most of the time - 1430 - and when a second operative turned up she spent 15 mins 'logging on' without saying anything to the people waiting. She disappeared to be replaced by someone else who seemed to be able to log on immediately and start to help customers. This is the longest I've ever had to wait anywhere to pick up a car. "

This cost me an extra £40 charge from Hertz Denmark, as they applied 5.97DKK to 1GBP when the standard exchange rate is 8.3DKK to 1 GBP. This I find unreasonable and needs to be checked with Hertz and other car hire companies outside the UK to not use exchange rates more than a certain percentage more pricey than the current exchange rate. Due to this, we had to pay a 'Late Fee' of DKR 380 - this is absolutely appalling and rubbish customer service.
