" When we picked the car up everything looked ok but when we stopped after the first drive we noticed a piece of trim around the rear wheel arch had come away from the bodywork slightly but if you pushed it back it was ok, just a clip not engaging properly. At the end of the rental there was nobody to accept the car and we had to post the keys in a box. When I got home I got an email claiming we had damaged the car and they are going to charge me for repairs. I have complained but 3 days after getting home have only received an acknowledgment of receipt of the complaint. I hadn't taken out their very expensive insurance so I think they are just trying to rip me off. I do have insurance which I took out but I don't think I should claim as we didn't cause any damage "

He has submitted his own review of his experience and our two reviews should be considered together. We are unhappy as we spent 4out of 7 days of our holiday sorting out car rental issues as well as missing the wedding party we had arranged our holiday around. That aside my main concern is that I was advised that the car was safe to drive and the tyre damage was not a problem. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss our concerns with a representative please. "
" I have just returned from holiday and I am seriously dissatisfied with some parts of my car rental experience 1. I had booked a car to be available at 2:30pm, arrived at agency on time, paper work sorted on arrival but car was not available until 3.55pm! and this was only after persistent enquiries to the counter staff despite counter staff initially advising it would be ready within 15minutes. 2 On pick up there was damage to the front passenger side wheel, I was told it was safe to drive despite visible damage to the tyre. 3. 2 days later (at approx 3pm)I had a blow out of above mentioned tyre, thankfully without injury or damage. I called Enterprise assistance, advised them that I was on the autoroute with 2 children aged 4 and 2 years, they advised it would be up to an hour for recovery, It was a very hot day. I was advised to stay in the car with the aircon on (contrary to best practice). When recovery vehicle arrived an hour later he was unable to recover from the motorway as he was not contracted by the Police to do so. Assistance was contacted again and the correct contractor came after 30 minutes he recovered us and the vehicle to a garage. Assistance arranged a taxi to take us back to our accommodation this took 40 minutes to arrive and almost an hour to get back to our accommodation (way past the children's dinnertime and bedtime!) 4. Assistance assured me that they were arranging for me to have a replacement car the next day (we were going to a wedding) and I was given a link to track progress. I telephoned and emailed the agency within their advertised working hours to alert them to my need for a replacement vehicle. The next morning I contacted Enterprise assistance as the tracking link had not progressed ( it still hasn't) and I was told to go to the airport to pick up replacement car I double checked she meant the airport as I had originally picked up the car at the train station and I double checked there would be a suitable replacement waiting for me 5. I went straight to the airport and the counter staff had no knowledge of my predicament. They were helpful despite being busy and after several hours I was provided with a replacement. We missed the wedding. "

" Helpful. We regularly rent cars in France and have found as we do not take the damage waiver surcharge in return the staff look for impossible to see tiny scuffs. We are now aware of this and scrutinise the vehicle at hand over. The companies ask us to take photographs but the scuffs are so small they are invisible on a photograph. This seems to be a new practice with other hire companies who will will not use again. "

" On the Auto-Europe voucher, the fee for extra driver was marked as 12 euro per day. Enterprise tried to charge 13 euro, and only because of my insistence, reduced it back to 12 euro. It's a small difference, but it seems to indicate that Enterprise are not completely respectful of the rates agreed in Auto-Europe's confirmation. This is bad. I have booked with Auto-Europe many, many times over the years and rate you high, but next time I may choose a car hire company other than Enterprise. "
" Enterprise Avignon TGV invite the customer to leave the pickup point with no documentation, neither the contract nor any documentation of the condition of the car's bodywork - just a promise of an email later, with no precision around what the email will contain. I don't think this is acceptable and it is the reason for my low rating. Paperless does not work in this context. I did ask for a paper agreement and got one, but it took ages to produce, and delayed our departure. The staff were polite but desperately slow. "

So all in all i was able to rebook with he same car rental company (enterprise) but I wasn't able to refund my initial booking. It is the first time i encounter such an issue and this shows utter incompetence "

" I hired a 9 seater van to go skiing. The only option i was offered was a ski rack . I assumed that there were naturally winter tires on this - otherwise it should have been an option. when i checked on the enterprise desk they said it was not - luckily they had one and i paid 130 euros to them. When i looked at the invoice from you - well down in the notes is that its not winter tires. This is a major safety issue and a legal requirement in the French Alps. While i accept that i should have seen this, to bury it in the terms and conditions is not safe practice . Its pointless offering a ski hire rack option on a vehicle that is unable to access ski areas in France and is easily assumed as i did that there must be the appropriate tyres. You should be clearly stating this on the booking page so there is no misunderstanding for such a fundamental safety issue. "

They of course wanted to get home and because of this we were unable to check the condition of the car until the following morning, with staff saying they were unable to agree the condition of the vehicle the following morning. We were also unable to add a second driver for part of our trip, unless we wanted the cover to start immediately. So we returned part-way through our stay and added the second driver for the last 4 days, with staff assuring us we would be charged an extra €13 x 4. When we dropped the vehicle off at the end of our trip, staff attempted to charge us an extra €13 x 9 which was the duration of our stay. We successfully argued our agreement with previous staff. It was a great car though, and we were delighted to be able to collect the car after our delayed flight because we were staying 2 hours north of the airport. All in all a decent experience. "

The car was fine for 24 hours, then the aircon packed up and never worked again for the duration of the trip. Given that daytime temperatures were 35 degrees plus this was a problem, and I was over 2 hours drive away from the concession so returning was not viable. On my return I again waited too long to drop the car off. There seemed to be only one member of staff on duty and there was a growing queue. "

Charged €1,500 for a trim that was unclipped by 5-10mm, and only visible after door was opened not at time of collecting car. The tablet/system didn't record all of the damage prior to collection and so inability to prove/disprove damage, and no recourse to discuss or take a customer service approach to resolving. Forced to accept a huge fee on pre-authorised credit card which is simply extortion. Avoid Enterprise even if you have excess insurance. "

" When we arrived to pick are 9 seater car up which we had booked in the April one was not avaliable as enterprise had given it to another customer. We had to use the largest car they had a 5008 peugeot. We had been informed we would receive a 30% discount and could return the car with an empty tank, or have a refund but the refund would not be immediate and we could try and get a car from another supplier. As we had two pensioners in our party one registered disabled we had no choice but to take the smaller car. On returning the car I was then billed to refuel the car and have recived no refund. I have contacted enterprise many time since and have not received any communication aside from an email saying we had booked the car through a third party. IE yourselves so I should contact autoeurope.co.uk, as the car was there, I understand you had completed your part. My concern is we where treated as a lesser customer as we had not booked direct. I have still not heard anything back from enterprise. In the future we will neither book via a third party or use enterprise. I am still to review the experience on both company websites "

" Counter staff were business like but not friendly., almost rude, as if we were a nuisance. Staff member insisted on walking around the car with me to look for damage even thought the outside of the car was so dirty no scratches were visible anyway. Chap said they weren't allowed to clean the cars due to water situation! He said the car was full of petrol and to bring it back full. On turning on the ignition it was clear it was only just 3/4 full. He did alter the contract to show that but it didn't inspire confidence. Main problem was that 2 days after finishing the rental and taking the car back, it appeared Enterprise had charged me twice for the insurance. A 2nd 'pending' charge appeared on my credit card for the same amount I had agreed for insurance. which had already come through on my card. On the first visit to sort this out the employee was very rude, unhelpful, and said it wasn't anything to do with Enterprise - it must be my Banks' fault. On checking with my credit card provider I was told there was a definite 2nd charge for the same amount visible on my account, but made on a different day. This needed a 2nd visit back to the office two days later to see the manager and explain all over again. A day later the 'pending' charge disappeared from my credit card, so all is well, but I won't be using Enterprise again. They never contacted me as they said they would to explain what had happened. "

" My flight was delayed by an hour and 15 mins. We arrived at the Enterprise office and then waited 30mins to be served ( under staffed ! ) and then told there was no car available even though I had paid in full to Auto Europe. Apparentally they "sold " my car to somebody else because i didn't arrive ontime. Eventually they arranged to pick up a car from another site ( Biarritz railway station - only 10 mins away ) and then we waited 1 hour 30 mins for the car to be cleaned. The car had just been run through a car wash, no internal cleaning was carried out. Our pick up and drop off was carried out by the same employee who was professional, courteous, polite, helpful and hard working. He was also embarrassed at the overall situation. During our drop off we waited 20 mins plus to be seen and in that time we witnessed some staff taking a break in the office behind as we waited with another 4 or 5 customer who were returning cars. There was only one member of staff serving at that time and was later ( 15 mins ) joined by another who seemed to have some seniority. Its maybe indicative of the type of person they employ, we witnessed an elderly french female customer ask the second member of staff as to why nobody in the back office could serve the waiting customers. She was told quite arrogantly that they were on their break and they were entitled to it despite waiting customers. Not a good start or finish to our holiday break. "

" I'll provide two elements of feedback. First part - . On dropping off the car, using an out of office hours key drop, I received very quick email to say the car had been received and all was good - no excess charge. This was brilliant. Second Part, which I have fed back to Enterprise: I booked the car in English needing no translation, but the document I was asked to sign at the airport was in French, my French is quite limited, so I really had to sign blindly. (I could have sworn that I have been given English contracts to sign in the past - I visit once every other year to catch up with family.) I would understand receiving the documentation in French, if I had had to book and pay for the hire in French to begin with. Please offer an English version in future, or at least warn on the English booking site that the contract you will be asked to sign will be in French. In the old contracts, I was given pictoral/car drawings with marks on the drawings to show where damage is located, under the new written email French contract there is nothing like this - an image is fairly language independent - please add this to the email contract. When I asked about the existing damage as I was a little confused, the assistant showed me photographs of the damage on a tablet - please add these to the contract email, these also help to understand where the damage is. I think the assistant told me to return the car full, (I'm pretty sure she did) but on driving the car I found it was only half full. (The display was quite dark and it only showed as not being full when it dropped below half full.) This really worried me, given the cost of fuel at the moment. I ended up calling the airport office to clarify, as the mileage was also wrong - after many failed attempts, due to the very narrow window of time the office is open and getting "press the huit key when I tried contacting the local office, even though pressing huit/8 was never offered, for the local support and made no difference.) Anyway, the person I spoke to explained that I only had to return it half full and when I struggled through the French contract, I could see "1/2 carbarant", which I guess means half tank of fuel. I wasn't given any instructions on leaving the car park - the barrier didn't open, I was given the car in the main car park and ended up using a ticket left in the car - I had to pay to leave the carpark! (Why wasn't I left the car in the car rental carpark, or why wasn't I given a ticket that would result in needing not to pay to leave the carpark?) I wasn't given any instructions for returning the car, this worried me because over the last ten years I have had to return the hire cars to various locations - the lower car included. We fortunately picked the right place, but it wasn't clear, we just guessed. "

The Nissan Qashqai was a nice car though it was not the estate we had ordered and had a trunk too small to take 4 suitcases. On the negative side, I'm not sure about using AutoEurope again if I am going to be matched with car rental firms like Enterprise. There are obviously good reasons why they are cheaper. It was a stressful experience that was luckily resolved by managing to get hold of a person at AutoEurope who could resolve it. " It's a real shame, I've used Enterprise several times before but won't use them again. They were extremely unhelpful when I arrived and realised I'd booked a day late, only offering to upgrade me to top class vehicle for €50 a day even though I was quite distressed as this was an urgent visit for a sick family member. When I did pick up the van (After having time spend a night in Nice at an extra cost of €150)I was then told it was not covered by the usual excess and any damage could result in having to pay for the whole vehicle! Just to try and blackmail me into their upselling insurance! A total stressy rip off! Then when I wanted to extend the trip by a week, it took over an hour to get through to someone with several hang ups. I did eventually speak to a nice guy but they could not extend at a reasonable price. It seems crazy that they don't want a weeks rent at a reasonable price and I can't believe anyone else wanted my van! So I had to come back to Nice and switch a 3 hour round trip. Interrent/Gold Car were amazing in comparison. A free upgrade and all the staff were super friendly and helpful. "

" I think when you hire a family car, it would be better to have a family car. The Citroen Berlingo was a bit more like a van. The AutoEurope website also sold this as an 'inclusive package' to cover a range of insurances and and excesses. So to then be told it doesn't cover for a range of other stuff and to have to pay extra was very annoying. In terms of value, my friends got a 4x4 with a decent spec and Sat Nav for significantly cheaper. (Hired from the same airport at the same time). "

Eventually, when someone spoke to us it was to tell us that they did not have the car we had ordered an "Economy 4 Door" and could not tell us when they would get one.I was quite surprised as this is Marseille Airport !!!! this seems to be our fault not there's. I was then offered a smaller vehicle. I was so disappointed by the manner that the staff went around checking the considerable amount of damage that I took photos to cover myself for when the car was returned. I asked about the refund for the difference in hire costs and was told they would contact Auto Europe and you would refund me. I had already paid for the most expensive insurance offered online and believed to be covered. Not for one second did I think I would have to pay practically the cost of the car again in an added insurance. This is an absolute scam and needs to be stopped "

I later discovered that I was already covered by Auto Europe. On return, when I queried this they said that if there had been damage I would have had to pay Enterprise and then claim from Auto Europe who usually refused to pay out. I had chosen Auto Europe as I had seen it highly recommended and did not expect to have this hassle or extra charges. "

( I'd never seen a car without a handbrake lever!) We ended up with a big SUV rather than the small hatchback we'd ordered (at no extra cost) My credit card was "blocked" rather than debited for the deposit, so no bank charges were incurred. " Sadly,the car did not have a radio aerial/antenna and it was not evident until I reached my destination(60kms away) I used a piece of coat hangar to achieve the necessary radio signal and simply removed it when returning the car. That aside everything else was fine except I couldn't return the car full of fuel(as I normally do) because of the national fuel price protest that closed the service stations near the rental location. I also had 250 euros taken from my credit card account immediately and when the car was returned it took a further 2 days before the money was returned, resulting in a loss of 0.26 pence because of the exchange rate. I have used Autoeurope for over 10 years and never had any monies deducted from my account - just kept on hold. On returning the car 2 hours before take off as requested by Ryanair the desk was closed and did not open until 1 hour before take off. I would have preferred to hand the keys to the staff. "

" We were given a free upgrade to a larger car because my wife is disabled and has a mobility scooter. This accommodated the scooter fine but it was an Opel Insignia which is not a patch on a lot of other makes of vehicle. Most basic functions were fine but the Sat Nav was poor, the display very difficult to read under certain light conditions and the speedo difficult to read and no digital read out. These are not Enterprises fault except for buying this model of car. Otherwise, Enterprise were great except for explaining features of the car. Efficient issue and return of vehicle, prompt checking over of the car on return and return of deposit. Will use them again happily. "

Got away 3.20 although car booked for 2pm. Charged Eur 96 for second driver although my voucher quite plainly stated second driver charge was Eur 34.11. Absolutely no representative around on return, waited a while - in the end had to leave keys on desk and run for our train. I have now a further charge of £27.72 on my credit card - I have absolutely no idea what this is for. The car was returned within time and had been filled with fuel. The vehicle was only vaguely cleaned as it was a little dirty on the outside and not so cleaned on the inside. It was hard to spot any vehicle damages this way. The address given to me to put in the GPS for drop-off was not exactly right which lead to confusion due to the location of the rental parking - confusing, densely built location in Paris. Using plain Google maps and putting the name of parking did the job pretty well, which was what I was going to do if I didn't have the special drop-off "instructions". "

" Overall, I wasn't very happy with the whole experience. The car itself was fine but I wouldn't use a third-party agent again. I would prefer to book direct and perhaps pay a bit more. Also, I wouldn't use Enterprise as they seemed quite amateur and not interested in improving the customer experience. They were more interested in maximising revenue (perhaps because they were on commission). "
" Enterprise did not have a car seat available for my son (despite this being pre-booked). They offered an unsuitable baby seat first which we rejected. They then had to borrow a car seat from another car hire company (Sixt). Enterprise charged a higher amount for an additional driver than was stated on my voucher. They said I had to recover the additional charges from AutoEurope rather than from Enterprise. We asked the counter-staff for directions to Annecy and they directed us into Geneva city centre. We spent an hour and a half getting on to the correct road. Enterprise also tried to 'hard-sell' us CDW insurance despite me showing them a Certificate of Insurance I had for a standalone policy which covered this. They forced me to sign for something that I did not wish to purchase. I wish to be reimbursed for this. The carpark was very dimly lit which made it very hard to check the condition of the vehicle and to fit the car seat. Finally, there are no signs to the French side of the airport to drop off the car. We ended up on the Swiss side and had to get a map to show us to the French side. "

" the condition of the car and the collection process were fine, HOWEVER, driving back to the airport I was ordered to pay 40 euros for an annual motorway pass despite explaining to the officer I had only 10 miles to drive to reach the airport . After I had returned the car, I decided to visit the Enterprise desk to complain about the situation- the "lady" who spoke to me was totally rude , showing me some ridiculous written rule prepared by Enterprise management and pointing out that this was my fault for daring to drive in Switzerland !!! having consulted tripadvisor on my return home , it seems I am not the only disgruntled car hirer, and , seemingly, whenever this happens to a hire car, the hire company REMOVE the pass from the car!! surely it would make more sense Enterprise to purchase annual passes for all their Geneva based cars? assuming each car gets hired out 200 times per year , the cost per hire would be 16 cents- I would not have objected in the slightest if I had been charged anything less than 5 euros to cover this cost, which would clearly leave Enterprise in a profit making situation and not creating resentment amongst their customers, I intend to contact Enterprise and complain about this outrageous stuation. Although the French Enterprise desk is at the other end of the building we got lost and took 30 minutes to drive round to the French end of the airport. Please advise the rental desks to give clear (written) instructions on departure as to how to return to the correct side of the airport! "

The office was only yards from the terminal,the staff were friendly and efficient and spoke excellent english. The ability to return the car with a full tank of fuel was appreciated. " I booked an estate car (Station Wagon/Break) and confirmed that this was the case at Montpellier station with Laureen who dealt with the paperwork with me. When I got to the car pound however, the C5 they had reserved was a sedan. Not big enough to transport my partially dismantled tandem! The only available alternative was a Peugeot Partner van-style people carrier. I accepted this car, as I had to get to Caen for my ferry reservation, however this was far from ideal: my wife had to sit in a rear seat for the 10 hour journey in order to accomodate the length of the bicycle. It was far less comfortable and suitable to Autoroute travel than the large estate I had ordered. "

" My suggestion would be to have the instructions set digitally in the car at the time of collection from / by Enterprise (our rental car had the option to choose a language but we were unable to confirm our choice of language) alternatively a manual that gives the appropriate language too. Our car was set for french and the manual was only printed in french unlike other EU products ie Miele, Bosch etc which have several languages.I believe this could be very helpful for drivers who are not fluent enough technically when hiring a car short term for holidays in Europe. " Set to drive from parking bay, suddenly a loud noise as if something had fallen off the car, checked - spare wheel on ground connected by a thick steel rope at full length as if car had been parked with the wheel o the ground at back of bay - car was only driven half way out of the bay - had to unpack car (3 adults with luggage) and wait 40 mins more with family waiting in car park for us. Given a replacement car which had not been valeted. If this had happened on the motorway there could have been a nasty result!!
