" Having used rental cars from Toulouse Airport in the past several years, I was apprehensive using AutoEurope and Firefly for this short duration of rental, since car was only used to deliver me to my home in Mirepoix where I then placed in garage and used my own vehicle. Previous customer experience website's tended to be very negative. Currently having returned post rental , I have to admit currently I am extremely pleased with the service I have received and would certainly recommend and use these service ( AutoEurope and Firefly) again in the future "

About an hour later I had a phone call which cut off before I could answer it but when I rang the number back it transpired to be Firefly. They seemed annoyed that I hadn't made a new booking but when I explained to Kevin (who was the guy on the phone and who was very helpful) he accepted in the circumstances it would be OK. I suspect this was because there had been no problems or damage to the car. I suggest that in circumstances like this the rental company should be automatically prepared to extend the hire without a very time consuming visit to their office. "

We had to rend a car from Avis at the last minute for the very expensive price of Euro 353.10 for a day to reach our resort. When we complained the day after to AutoEurope and asked for our initial rental to be renewed we had to pay for a new rental £178.43. I will raise a complain and ask for refund from your company. "

" Compared with our experience of Firefly in Athens which is very good, the Marseilles office is terrible. The office is understaffed so it takes a long time to pick up the car but that is something I can live with. However the drop off is hopeless because you have to join the queue with those picking up. I waited 20 minutes but in the end just left the keys on the counter and left but we missed our flight as a result. There were staff in the office literally doing nothing but thery would not check the car in. In Athens you drive the car in:- it is immediately looked at by staff and the petrol and mileage noted and thats it:- no hassle. I got the impression that Firefly as a low cost version of Hertz is trying to persuade customers to pay more and hire from Hertz. "

When I went out to the vehicle the back wiper was missing, there was a dint near the Renault badge on the boot, there was multiple scores on the body work and a wheel trim was badly scuffed and buckled in places. When returning the vehicle I raised this issue when the counter staff to ensure I wasn't charged. Once I showed them I had photographic evidence of the damage from picking up the vehicle they said the car must have vandalised in the car park, however some of the damage was obviously through driving. " Rang the help desk 2 days before and clarified that as the main driver does not have a credit card, we could use a debit card so long as 1) insurance was purchased 2) the card was in the main drivers name 3) it was embossed 4) it had a visa or MasterCard logo. The call agent (who can I just add was extremely polite and helpful!), informed me that this was all listed in the terms and conditions which I had printed off along with my booking receipt. Upon arriving at the Firefly desk in Bordeux, we were told that we would also need to pay for a full tank of petrol as we did not have a credit card. I queried this as this was not mentioned over the form, nor in the terms and conditions I agreed to and had in front of me. The man at the desk presented what can only be described as a hand drawn flow chart and told me that the diagram was the terms and conditions and that AutoEurope's T&C's do not apply as they are the broker. I work in insurance so know this is definitely not the case so challenged this. Eventually the man gave in and said he will not add the petrol charge (which was €120!!!!!). Can't help but feel that they are using this tactic on us foreigners thinking it won't be challenged and they can get away with this. Definitely won't be using Firefly again for this reason, sadly. "

" Main concern being that we had our own insurance cover and while we understand the offer of taking up the company insurance - simplicity/convenience - the proposal was unrealistic and very expensive. We were then treated as second class customers.... and the vehicle which was pre-booked was not completely clean. we were of course invited to inspect for any scratches etc which were not already shown on the log .... there were numerous , and also the parcel shelf was missing [ which itself meant security concern and inconvenience when parked in public areas] A number of the scratches which were not marked were partly obscured by dust ... others turned out to be no more than streaks/dust but only detected by laborious "cleaning by ourselves in order to verify. Before driving off we pointed out the additional scratches/marks which we were able to see and asked for them to be recorded. This was actioned somewhat dismissively and we were advised instead to "take photos" - which we did for good measure. On return again we were treated as second class... a brief inspection followed and the inspector picked out two tiny marks low down on front driver-side wing. I acknowledge that I had not seen either of these although they would have been very difficult to detect at initial hand-over because of the unclean state of the car. Indeed I still believe that one of these was in fact an engrained dirt streak. However coincidentally I offered up the photos I had taken at start and the inspector confirmed that both marks were indeed present at that time - and thereby released us. HOWEVER this experience is unsettling and makes us cautious of such hire for the future. The responsibility was the company's to provide a car in complete state [ this was not] , clean , and with proper recording of blemishes. The way this transaction was handled is tantamount to bullying the customer and misrepresenting responsibilities. I set this out for you as a company as there is scope for improvement. Indeed we have had some similar experiences [ and worse] with another company. It seems that this is a poor trend within the industry which will go before Which and similar consumer media. we urge you to address positively in the interests of your customers . "

I know this is a budget rental but if a service is offered for that price then that service should be provided. Every time I have used Firefly the collection process is slowed down by either having to wait for staff to arrive or having to request a yellow vest or warning triangle that is missing or query the level of fuel in the car or point out damage that has not been noted on the collection paperwork (necessary as I don't want to take out their expensive additional insurance as I have an annual excess protection policy, which costs the same or less for a year than their insurance does for a week). I also don't really understand why the price of rental differs by such a huge range between the different rental companies, "

" In checking the vehicle back in this time we had to wait in the queue behind those collecting vehicles (a slow process for each person) which seemed unncessary and is not helpful if one is trying to get to the check in. Last year at Firefly in Nice we handed the keys to the staff outside at the collection point (sometimes one can drop them in a box) but the counter staff said we now had to wait. If customers have to check back in that should be a separate queue as the process is generally very fast. The Firefly check in accommodation is poor and the queue winds out of the temporary building they occupy - if it's dry that's not too bad (if hot) but the set up is not really very satisfactory. "

" I've used Firefly a number of times in the past and found them helpful and the cars basic (ie. high-milers), but really good value. This time was an altogether different experience, which would make me hesitate using them again. In fact, I have just booked another car through Auto Europe (in Bordeaux), but have instead gone with National. This time it felt like Firefly were trying to trip me up - trying to charge me for filling-up (€77) on my rental agreement (stipulating the car should be returned empty), even though my booking with you showed that I would bring it back full (which I did). To do this I had to leave the receipt for the fuel in the car - even though I needed this for work. When I protested this and said that my contract with Auto Europe stipulated that I was going to bring the car back full, the manager, Antony, said that in that case he'd cancel my booking! When I inspected the car, there was also unreported damage to the car (I have photos). Firefly staff then made me wait for 30 minutes before they came to have a look - this was because they were 'very busy'. At first Antony said there was no damage as the car was 'new' - this was definitely not the case as the mileage showed over 15,000 km on the clock. Then when I showed Antony the damage (scratches and dents) he said these were not damage, despite them being over 2.5cm. He was reluctant to put them on the report and I had to insist. All the time it felt like they were attempting to add extra costs to my rental agreement and it was done in a atmosphere of confrontation. This was really surprising as I've found them to be good in the past. The car was also dirty - this was because it had obviously just been driven up from Spain (it had Spanish plates - I noticed this when I was stopped by French Customs on the Autoroute!). I have reported all this to Firefly. "

" The car was booked for 18:00 hours, it was 19:27 when I eventually got the keys. The inspection of the car was hurried and not as thorough as it should have been. On the return of the car (DD-061-RC) the inspection showed a long scratch along the offside door and front wing. This was a very fine scratch and not very deep and could have been there when I picked up the car, or someone unknown had (keyed the car). I am awaiting the output of this. It should be made clear that the desk for picking up the keys is actually in terminal 2 and not with all the other hire car providers. Also the parking of the cars is about half a mile from the terminal and again not with the other providers. "
