We eventually found out (from the Jet 2 reps) that the pick up was a Black Mercedes with Tangerine written on the side. While waiting outside arrivals the van drove straight past without stopping. A phone call was made and we were then told to wait by the cafe which we were not advised before. Pick up was then smooth. At the office we then we advised we had to pay extra for insurance that was covered on the rental. Since found out that because my first card was rejected this was what the extra charge was for. Car was great with no issues. Did not "upgrade" to an automatic as am used to manual. A return address for the car was also not given so had to been found on google. "

" I purchased an advertised 'airport car collection' which turned out to be a wait 40 minutes outside the airport, walking up and down a line of vans until the right one turned up, then fight for a seat as so many people waiting. Then a 10 minute drive to the actual collection point. So, not as advertised! Desk staff tried to upsell me twice and sell me extra insurance that I had already purchased via Auto Europe. Tried telling me it wasn't the same when it was. Told me there was no damage on the car - when I walked over to it there was damage on every panel and every wheel. I went back to ask why the paperwork said no damage and the rude staff just said take pictures, they didn't want to come and see. They put a £1200 hold on my credit card! The car was a 1.2 Corsa which was not suitable for the crazy hills in Madeira. More than once the three passengers had to get out the car and walk up hill as it wouldn't move in first gear with them in the car! When I returned the car they tried to make out I had damaged it and luckily I had taken pictures of the exact panel so thank god! You must take pictures!! Had to wait ages for the return drive back to the airport. "

" If you return a vehicle with less fuel than when you picked it up you will be charged £107. I drove the vehicle for an hour before a driver forced me off the road, resulting in two burst tyres. Centauro efficiently arranged a tow and replacement car, but I was unable to refuel the tank. The replacement car had 75% of fuel so I took it back ten days later with 100% of fuel to more than make up for the fuel I had used with the original car, but I was still charged £107. I don't think that is fair or right. "

" I have never had aproblem hiring a car in over 40 years of hiring until now. I was shown a plan of all of the damage marks to the car when I picked it up showing at least 14 scrapes one being a serious attempt to break into the drivers door. \i was aske by the in a jovial manner by the lady if I wanted to take photos of the damage, i did not see a real problem so I said no as there were so many to photograph. I was met by a man when I returned the vehicle who asked whether I had taken photos and when i said no his face lit up and he made a cursory look at the driver's side and then went straight to the passengers side bottom of the front bumper and took a photo and showed me a "new" scrape on the bumper. He also showed me an undated photo purported to be taken before I hired it showing other scrapes but not the "new" one. I said that it could not have been us as a) the scrape was slight but you would have noticed coming into contact with anything and b) we had only used it briefly to go round the island and the rest of the time it had stayed in the hotel garage. He then said it would cost 220 euros to repair, this really set me off because there were so many scrapes on this bumper if he asked that off each hirer it would have contributed substantially to respraying the whole car. I then made it my point to warn other people hiring there that they needed to make entirely sure the condition of their vehicle before leaving the premises, this drew some very evil looks from the staff. We ha d alift back with another couple to the airport and they complained about thir mistreatment by Centauro. I have mentionend my disatisfaction in my survey back to Centauro. I am not sure who is benefitting from this scam or whether the Company know about it. I have had it deducted from my bond and do not know how to get recompense from Centauro. I have no problem with Auto Europe who I have always found helpful. "

" Having had a long day of travel, we felt the counter staff were a bit pushy trying to convince us to pay more for the car insurance to reduce the excess. Just feel that the excess should be standard and inclusive. We were given no guidance. Nobody around to show us the car and help with Sat nav problems encountered. It would have been nice to have been asked if help was needed. We did upgrade from a clio to BMW 1 series as we were told we would need it for the steep hills etc. No reason why this information should not be on the website - it would have guided us better. "

" Overall my experience was less stressful that I have had before with high pressure selling at the counter and threats if top up insurance is not taken "
" I was offered a car with defective tyres, the front tyres were bald for about a third of the width and there was a slapping sound as if part of the tyre was loose. The brakes were suspect (squeaky) and there was a lot of bodywork damage and the inside of the car smelled of oil. I went out in it and did not feel safe and returned it. They changed the car without argument and it was better, fewer damaged panels and better tyres. They replaced the car without any argument. The car i got was OK, not very clean inside but adequate, fewer dents. I noted some issues with the engine, hunting at low throttle levels which was irritating. Having said that, the lady who did the paperwork was nice and did not try to sell me add ons and extra insurance. In fact all the staff were nice and did their best. I suspect they are not given much support from the owners of the company, who are ultimately responsible for the condition of vehicles. There seemed very little in the way of equipment at the depot to examine the vehicles properly or do effective maintenance. If you want to take this further please contact me. "
