" On pick up, the car was on a lower floor of the car park. This was fairly dark. I was assured the car had no damage so drove it out, noticiing later on reaching my dstination that there was a ver slight dent in the driver side rear door. I assunmed this was allowable for a "no damage" report but luckily my wife had taken photographs. On return, I dropped off the keys and left, getting a note later to say I would be charged. Fortunately I was able to return to the desk an hour later to show the photo and the charge was scrubbed. If we had left town, this would not have been possible and re-claiming the charge would have been very complicated. May I suggest NOT doing car pick up fom a gloomy location and making photos a requirement rther than advice. "

" We were quite simply scammed from the beginning - the car had many superficial signs of damage. As the car was black it was incredibly difficult to capture them photographically despite all our efforts. All four hubcaps were visibly damaged but easier to prove from the photos. We knew that there was mal intent from the start as when we returned the car, the representative cited he only had a record of one hubcap having been damaged. Fortunately, he could not argue when presented with the photographic evidence to the contrary. All the other damage on the black car body that we'd photographed he simply rejected and said they were just "reflections" and proceeded to hand me an iPad, incensed and in shock, we had a flight to catch, I had no time to think and just simply signed. I really wish I hadn't. The whole experience from the time we picked up the car felt unnerving - the extra insurance we were being overly encouraged to take out (which would have almost been the same amount as the car rental itself), was simply not an option. This should have been pointed out when booking the rental. The representative cited that should a small stone on the motorway scratch the windscreen, we'd be expected to pay 2000€! I chose Hertz from your site because I opted (although not the cheapest) for what I thought was a reputable company. I have had dealings with you in the past and have been completely satisfied. I have sent both yourselves and Hertz emails to express how totally unacceptable this unscrupulous behaviour we unfortunately experienced which both marred the beginning and mostly the end of our short trip to France, having been charged a ridiculous amount of money for damages that we did NOT cause to this hired car. I may not receive an appropriate response from either of you but will take this opportunity to approach some form of wider media. If from this experience I can make others much more aware and super vigilant, then the 500+€ I paid for a basic car for less than a week will have been worth it. "

" Originally we hired a Peugeot 3008 or "similar" because of the boot space. The "similar" turned out to be a Toyota Corolla which was not suited to carrying our son's wheelchair. The counter staff were very helpful and we upgraded to a Volvo SUV. Unfortunately this resulted in additional costs of 448.51 Euros plus VAT (89.70 Euros) = 538.21 in total, doubling the cost of the hire. Key learning underlines the importance of establishing the boot space (and shape). This is particular important for disabled users. "

" Disappointed! The aircrafrt was delayed for 3 hours at LGW. When we arrived in Bordeaux, the booked car had been released, despite the agent knowing we were on the flight. I was given 2 options. Drive an e vehicle in the dark with just 25% charge for a 120 mle journey. I have never driven an e car and this was not the time to start. A family BMW at greater charge for just 2 people with hand luggage. The second was the better of the 2 options although hardly a "green" one! For this I was charged a further 108 Euro. The situation was not of my making and Hertz knew the situation with th flight. The agent referred to it and pointed to it on the screen in the office. In my adequate French I proposed that the BMW should come at the same price I had already been quoted...but to no avail. NOT imprerssed "

Although once passed the car, light/locks etc. returned to locked status, the frequency of unlock/lock, possibly not automatically relocking may have exhausted the battery. - a great idea, but cause needs further investigation and alert to renters, if necessary. In trying to contact Hertz, found serious problems and delays. The contact issue was further tested because flight was cancelled and needed to extend rental by 12 hours. " Everything was fine with the customer service and the car - however, I had a real issue with filling up the car to return it -the petrol gauge simply didn't acknowledge that the petrol tank was full an iso I was very anxious and took photos of me filling it us- my receipts and because there was no one to hand the car back to - it was a drop the key off affair - was really concerned I would have to pay for a full tank of petrol when it wasn't my fault. I spoke to customer services at Auto Europe and the lady there was very nice and I then followed it up with an Menai. So far I am not aware of additional costs so I am hoping it's all OK - but there was clearly an issue with the car. "

" The car I picked up was a manual when I had requested an automatic. I had a puncture with no spare tyre the car had to be recovered, which happened however had no number to contact hertz to arrange transport back to the airport. The recovery firm was taking the car to a garage in the opposite direction to the airport. All the Hertz contact numbers did not work on a UK mobile. So could not contact them and ended up having to go to a station to get a train and the bus to the airport to try and make my flight on time. I did not therefore have an option to refuel the car, had to pay for train and bus fares. Had emailed Hertz on the address provided and have no idea on what is happening with car deposit. Left stranded with no means of return to airport, no follow up communication from hertz and likely to be build an extortionate 3.8 euros a litre for fuel because of the puncture. So this was not the economic option I had hoped for. "

Eventually after making me feel like I knew nothing about cars...they simply switched.me to the right car. Not difficult. The car had been cleaned but not at all well but we took it anyway. "

" I don't blame you as a company for the failings of a major car rental firm, that think they can take money without any evidence of damage, which there was not, maybe that's why they have not responded or supplied the evidence required. think this stems from my initial contact picking up the car, the staff member asked whether we wanted extra cover which was going to cost as much as the rental, and his body language told me there was going to be issues later, which is confirmed. but you as an online middle man have no power over major companies, but i chose hertz as it was known to me, but my mistake thinking that they had customer service on their agenda. " My only comment is to do with hiring a car in Geneva- with the complexity of French and Swiss sector within and around the airport. First to get to the French sector on arrival into Geneva- it's like the magic roundabout. Then if you are driving into France using Swiss highways- you will panic about getting those vignettes. Would be helpful if you could buy it before you even set off. Returning the car was straightforward- as long as you negotiate the set of complex exits and more roundabouts. I guess this is not a Hertz problem but a Geneva airport problem. "

A few of the issues 1. Agent handwrote wrote the wrong slot number for our car, but we managed to find it. 2. The computer panel was not in English (universal language) or even French, language of rental but something Eastern European. 3. I wanted someone to help me change this and answer some questions but there was NO-ONE. I even went to Hertz Gold Plus office on floor, walked around the parking lot, occasionally shouting for help - no-one there apart from car parkers who couldn't help. I pressed buzzer by door to lot, no answer. Had to go back to original agent. When I expressed annoyance at having to come back, he didn't care - what do you expect on a Saturday? They phoned a manager who met me at car and said sorry we were both on other floor. Should have min 1 rep per floor. Was also unfamilar with car so took ages to fix things "

We were 50mins late because special assistance for my 91-year old mum was delayed. I had rung them from the aircraft in time but they had provided the wrong number on their booking form. They just said - oh that's out of date! The next counter staff Rose Marie was polite but refused to accept my U.K. paper licence. I had to call the management. The car has several instances of damage - stains and a tear on seats/ and damage to paintwork - not on the form. I had to return to the office. I took photos with Rose Marie. I wrote several times with photos and further photos of subsequent damage I notice on arrival at our home to hertz - no reply. When I returned the car the agent doing the return (Johann?) was fantastic - could not have been better. But I wouldn't dare go to this agency again given the attitude towards clients at arrival and the inaccuracy of information they provide. You can imagine the state my poor old mum was in having had to put up with all this in nearly 30 degrees of heat - dreadful. "

On trust pilot there are many many complaints that hertz at Bezier airport have ripped them off for one reason or another. The other issue was our Auto Europe zero excess cover not being available for the extra day we needed, and Hertz not able to offer cover for the extra day either, as we hadn't taken out the original insurance with them. " On route to France my flight was delayed. I immediately called Auto-Europe and asked for help. I was told to call Hertz at Nice. That's really poor service when you are struggling to call a foriegn country from a noisy airport. Also the Hertz desk in Nice do not pick-up the phone call, but charge a premium rate for all your calls trying to get the message of the delayed flight to them. I really got the feeling that neither Hertz nor Auto-Europe wanted to help. They just wanted to take as much money as they could get from me. I was taught early in business that it is easier to keep an existing customer than to find a new one AND that once you tarnish your reputation it takes a long time to recover from that. I'm not sure your company understands the value of customer loyalty. "
" When i dropped off the car (on time at 8pm) there were no workers there to check car and receive the keys. I went to Hertz desk and the agent ushered me to a box in the car lot and he put the keys in the box. He told me this is what the correct procedure is. Susequently Hertz have charged me for a late drop-off and want photographic evidence that I returned the keys to the box on time. I feel Hertz are trying to cheat me! None of the documenatation provided by either Hertz or Auto-Europe mentions this key drop procedure infact both companies documentation says the Hertz drop-off in Nice is open 6.30am until midnight. I will never use either company again unless this charge is reversed and will advise friends about yhe service via social media. "

" Very slow counter service on collecting car. The second day of a three week hire a warning light came up when I was on the motorway at night to say the tyres were underinflated. I had to check the tyre pressures which wasted a lot of time and one was definitely under inflated. There was not a puncture as after reinitialising there was no further problem. I tried many times to telephone the agency at Beziers airport but nobody picked up the phone. There was no clear email address to contact either. " On Monday 6th. July 2020 I collected a booked Peugeot 206 rental car from Hertz, Limoges, France. When motoring on the A20 autoroute to my destination 60 kms away in 19400 Uzerche, it became apparent that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to an intermittent problem with the power-steering. Upon arrival in Uzerche, after interminable phone delays, I managed to contact Hertz Assistance and the vehicle was recovered by a Peugeot Garage in Tulle France. Due to a complete lack of replacement Hertz rental vehicles in the Limoges, Brive area of France at this time, I was eventually offered a replacement vehicle on Saturday 11th. July at Aurillac, some two hours away from Uzerche!! A taxi service was provided by Hertz and the replacement vehicle was collected from the Hertz Franchise office in Aurillac. For four days of the nine-day rental contract I was without a replacement rental vehicle and will be claiming compensation from Hertz for the lack of supply during this period. "

I am extremely dissatisfied that my wife's licence was not accepted. A refund for the unused booking would encourage me to see Auto Europe in a different light. "

" All round satisfactory experience. Reasonably short walk to Hertz desk which had been relocated from the terminal building to the vehicle pick-up point. The only slight inconvenience is that we didn't know about the relocation which meant something of a short detour. Check-in at the desk was quick and the car was just around the corner. The car was the model we requested and had the advantage (for me) of being automatic transmission. It wasn't as new as some hire cars (over 40000k on the clock) and had a few small bodywork blemishes but it drove well enough and met our needs perfectly. Returning the car was quick and painless plus the Hertz desk was very close to security if you'd already checked in as we had. As car hire goes this was painless and streamlined. "

" I have the following issues with autoeurope: 1. At the point in the booking process when it was clear I could not return the car to the pick up point due to Biarritz Airport being closed, I ended up having over 2 hours of further phone calls with autoeurope trying to sort out an alternative drop-off. Autoeurope were NOT EVEN AWARE Biarritz Airport was going to be closed until I informed them! 2. My rental period was 1 day less than I had booked (due to the airport closure), but I was not able to reduce the booking period as it was claimed I could not be guaranteed the same vehicle (as it turned out I was initially given the wrong vehicle anyway, and was randomly fortunate that a larger vehicle was available). 3. I ended up paying for a days rental I did not need, and spending far too long on the phone being passed from one person to another in trying to sort it out. Dreadful customer service. "

Despite not being able to return the car to the point of rental (Biarritz) due to the closure of the airport (and the car rental facilities!), I had to pay £75 to drop the car at Toulouse despite having been offered (through autoeurope) a free drop off at Pau. 2. At the point of making this booking with autoeurope I specifically booked a full sized manual 7 seater. When I picked the car up, I was given a less than full sized 7 seater automatic. This was eventually resolved but meant an extra 30 minutes picking up the car while the paperwork was sorted. 3. At the time of drop off, the Hertz staff member claimed a scratch on one of the car wheels was new damage and charged me £100. I have no recollection of the scratch occurring and as the wheels were the one area of the car I had no before and after photos of, I could not prove I had not caused the damage. "

After check in completion informed the vehicle was not available at the airport collection point. " It's a problem that's common to most car hire companies I think. When you select the class of vehicle you want there's always the comment 'or similar' . In my case I was initially offered a Peugeot 208 - but ended up is very basic Corsa. I would not consider them similar. The Aircon was particularly poor and it strughion the steep passes. It would be SO much better if there was a clear list of cars in that class - but,as I said at the outset, it's not a uniquely Hertz problem. I was surprised by the miles on the vehicle and the damage. They were reassuring about this and emailed me photos of the damage. "

" Absolutely horrible experience. First of all, there's no specification which terminal the car needs to be picked up from. I arrived at terminal 1, went to Hertz stand, and they informed me that I need to go to Terminal 2 to collect the car. Extremely not convenient when you are travelling with 7 other elderly people with a lot of luggage! Why couldn't this be made clear in advance that the collection is at Terminal 2? Secondly, I reserved Mercedes Vito, and I was given Nissan car. This is not the same standard car, and obviously Nissan is much, much worse than Mercedes. Thirdly, when I collected the keys for the car, the person at the desk told me that there were only 2 scratches on the car, and that if I find more scratches, I need to take a photo. When I found the car in the parking lot, it was squashed by other cars so tight I could barely open the door to get in, not to mention going around the car taking photos of all scratches and dents that were not listed. Anyhow, I noticed that the car had a lot of scratches and dents all over it. I took several photos. When I returned the car at the end of my rental, the person checking the car noticed a dent on the rear door. I had photos of all other dents around it, but didn't manage to take one of this particular dent. The person then offered me to bribe him and pay 50 EUR in cash so that he writes there's no damage in the report! If I refuse, he would then mark it as damaged and he informed me I would be paying a lot more to Hertz. I had no option than to pay 50 EUR in cash to this person and leave. " When we collected the car at Nîmes airport we were told to bring the car back with a full tank of petrol which we were happy to do as the desk staff told us there was a petrol station by the airport. However, when we arrived back at the airport via the A8 we could not find a petrol station. We relayed this to the desk at the airport only to be told that the nearest petrol station is actually 4 kilometres away. I was told I could go back to the car to find the petrol station but my wife and children were in the check-in queue and I didn't want to risk getting lost trying to find the petrol station. " We took a taxi from Dinan Port to the advertised pick up point at the ZA Balair. We spent some time searching for the Hertz office but eventually the taxi driver gave up and phoned Hertz in St Malo. The Hertz agent explained that they had closed their Dinan office two years ago. We had to ask our taxi driver to take us to the St Malo office when're we eventually picked up a car. By now we were over an hour behind our schedule and 20 k further from our intended destination than we would have been had we been able to pick up as arranged at Dinan. To be fair the Hertz agent did his best and agreed not to charge us for the fuel we used but we were still badly out of pocket having had to pay the taxi driver an additional 65 Euros to cover his round trip from Dinan to St Malo. I would be pleased to receive some compensation from Autoeurope as we booked through your website. Thank you.z "

That was still 30 minutes early to the booked time. So basically, for some reason, Samuel decided to mess me and my family around for no reason except his own amusement. It seems to me that a lot of time is wasted trying to sell customers extra products. I had already selected my options and given advance information. The whole experience was not up to standard for a car rental company with a good reputation generally. Also the full to full fuel policy was made very confusing. My receipt after collection said I had opted for pre buying the fuel therefore I did not need to fill up. However I did not chose this option to my knowledge. When I dropped the car off it was clear that in fact I could have brought it back full and that I would not have been charged the Hertz inflated full tank price of 80 euros had I done so. I thought that I had no choice since my receipt said I had agreed to the charge. Very annoying as I wasted fuel and overpaid by about 40 euros. "

As soon as we were alerted on the 29th June '18 of the cancellation, we tried to cancel the car hire with Auto Europe or transfer to another day. " Overall happy with the whole process except for one thing. I put into the quote that we would pick the car up after 6pm as our train arrived in Tours at 6:45, but the Hertz office closed at 6pm. This was not evident until the voucher was sent. (Unless I missed it) also, nowhere on the voucher did it specify that my passport would be required. Having got a cab to the the previous day (because place was closed) I went back in another cab the next day to be told they could not let me have the car without my passport. I had everything the voucher said I should take. In the end they relented and let me have th3 car, fortunately as I did not want two more taxi journeys. However the car was great and very economical but we ended un not beinG able to use it until day 2. "

" I was not happy to be presented with a list of damages to the vehicle that comprised shorthand notes in, what is to me, a foreign language. Consequently I was unable to verify to my own satisfaction that all the damage had been correctly listed. As it turned out there were no problems when the car was returned. On receipt the vehicle was dirty both inside and outside and most unimpressive. It was cleaner when I returned it as I couldn't stand driving such a car. "
