" I had booked a small Hyundai and rang auto Europe the day before we travelled to check everything was ok and what documents to bring. I was told to bring a passport, licence, household bill and the DVLA code to allow staff to check my details. One arrival there was no car, they didn't know anything about my booking but could see it on the computer because of the voucher number. Eventually we were told we could have a little Kia. The only thing required was my licence. I didn't need all the other documents I was told to bring. The car was very under powered but on a plus side didn't use much fuel. The hire was also I thought very expensive at over £200 for 3 days. At least I didn't have to put much fuel in it "

When we got to the desk at the airport we were told ot was £10 per day and £1000 block on credit card. The car had a lot of damage. We were told to report anything not already marked on the form but this was very difficult given that it was raining, the car was wet and there were so many bits of damage "

" The original car we were given had an indicator light on when we collected it. It was not until we got to our hotel that we found out from the manual that this was a tyre pressure indicator. We didn't use the car the next day but the day after that when we looked at the tyres, one of them had what I imagine was a slow puncture - it was completely flat. We inflated it and drove it back to the airport, because the indicator light was still on. We were given a new car which was fine although the level of damage on it was incredible. However, it worked and we were happy with it. "

" Hi. On collecting the vehicle at the airport I unfortunately did not have a great experience. I was given a car first which was ideal but upon starting the car it said "system fault". I went back to the desk where I was advised that they were aware of the error message and that it had been checked and all was okay to drive they just hadn't managed to get the diagnostics fixed. I said I didn't feel comfortable driving a car that had an error fault showing on the dash. They said they would move me to another car but all that was available was a Hyundai i10. This was a smaller car than I had booked and paid for. The guy at the desk assured me they were from the same grade but I showed him on auto Europe I had booked an economy car which was a corsa or similar and an i10 on there was classed as a mini car which was cheaper! I went to look at the car and said it was too small for what we needed so o needed them to find something else. I felt I shouldn't be penalised for them not having my size car available that is in full working order. After waiting a bit they said a corsa was indeed available - unsure why this wasn't available when they tried to seemingly palm me off with a smaller car! I wasn't impressed with the service at all. I stuck to my guns to what I had paid for but I shouldn't have been given either of the first two cars. Also, I had to pay £45 for the additional insurance because funnily enough when I used my card to put the £900 hold on it he kept saying my card was declined. But using the same card to pay the £45 was okay? All seemed a bit of a con I must admit! There was no pending or hold messages from my bank at due to suspected fraud. It just didn't sit well with me. My card clearly worked. So just seemed like an easy way to get £45 out of another customer to me. I wasn't impressed. "

" When I arrived at Ronaldsway airport I was told to take a seat and wait because the car had not yet been valeted! After 20 minutes I re-joined the queue of 20 people waiting for cars. One person left the queue and went to a different desk where she received her car. I left the queue after her and said that I needed a car straight away. It didn't have to be the correct car, any would do. I was given a larger car than I had requested and it was only half-full of petrol. It did the job, but I wasn't pleased with my experience. When I book a car at an airport, I expect it to be ready to drive away. Is that an unreasonable expectation? "

" Quite a long delay to pick up car - only one person on the desk. Car failed twice in 6 days - first time it recovered itself. Second time, same symptoms, completely dead, no lights on dashboard, no response from key. Loose battery terminal, so poor PDI/mtce. The digital display showed wrong time when I picked up car, thought that strange, so the battery terminal had obviously failed before - that should have given you a clue something was wrong with it in the past. Your operative was not at all apologetic or sympathetic when I returned the car. My contract with Auto Europe specified AC, but I do not believe this Picanto had it. Did not really need it much, but could have done had it been warmer. "

" This was our first experience of Auto Europe although we have driven in Europe & our youngest son & family live & work in Paris & often use a hire car facility. We suggest you pick your front line operators with greater care. "

The electronic door locking mechanism on the car did not work so we had to resort, with advice from a team member to using the driver's door lock to open & lock the car. The fuel in the car provided was not full as anticipated & the fuel gauge gave us no indication of how much fuel we needed to return the vehicle with so we returned the car with a full fuel tank. We were driving elderly friends around the island so a vehicle with no rear external door handles was quite unsuitable but we had no prior knowledge. "

" Unfortunately the car I was given this time in the Isle of Man was really poor. It's been a long time since I actually had to use a key to physically unlock a car. Central locking not working meaning I had to open the passenger door from the inside (not ideal in poor weather). I had ordered GPS, but this was an old car that did not have GPS. When I asked about this I was given an old plug in model, but this did not work and was obsolete. I relied on the paper map I had with me, but it would have been difficult if I had been on my own. I did let Athol know on drop off that it was no use whatsoever and should not be given out. "

Asked if I could leave car back at airport 2 hours later than planned but was asked for nearly £50 more. It took us over 20 minutes before we got to the counter and there were customers from the same flight waiting behind us. Very slow pick-up service. I have hired many cars in the past but I have always been told if they are diesel. When I got a phone call from the hire company and told what had happened the girl said it was on the fuel cap and key fob. Unless you're told that it's not something you would look for. I had originally hired a Nissan Micra, which is what I drive at home. I was given a Nissan Note and didn't know it was to have diesel put in. "

" The car, a Nissan Leaf diesel had quite a few scrapes and a few dents. These were numbered but We found some that were not. We pointed these out. On returning the car we asked for someone to inspect the car and get the all clear. Staff seemed a bit put out having to do this. However we wanted it inspected wile we were present. WE had taken photos also which proved these unnumbered scratches were there prior to our getting the car. I think staff should expect to check vechicles off. Also after booking this hire company the day before travelling we received an email saying they did not have enough cars. I complained about this as I had little time to search for another car and they then found a car. "

" We couldn't get the sat nav to work on the vehicle. Also there were scratches which we had to point out on collection other than the ones we already had been told about. Also when we booked the vehicle it stated in the terms and conditions that a full tank of fuel was supplied and to return it with the same. Which was the reason we booked with yourselves. However on collection we were told that there was a 1/4 of a tank of fuel and to return it as near to this as possible - with no less than a 1/4 of a tank or you would be charged a ridiculous sum of £30 or something like that. This is quite difficult to do and only means that as a company you gain from this or the next person who hires the car gains!! "

I'm still waiting 7-10 days for the money to re appear in my account. The damage on the car (scratches) were not all marked out on my paperwork but when I went back in to tell the staff they were very relaxed and said there won't be a problem. So I took pics etc just in case and I don't think there were any issues. Altogether very smooth running's. "
