" Upon checkout (Lyon Exupery Airport), I was told by staff that I would receive an email containing instructions regarding my out-of-hours key return. No email arrived. Several days later, I sent a request via the Europcar online portal but received no reply. When I called Europcar, they told me to return the car to carpark B2 (which doesn't exist) and my keys to a Europcar desk in T1 (which also doesn't exist). Finally, I had to interrupt by trip and drive to the airport on the day before departure to understand how to return my car and keys. A frustratingly poor service. I also remarked that during check-out, staff talk openly between themselves about their clientele. For example, during check-out, a family approached the check-out building and staff joked about who would be in line to deal with their car hire. "

" This was the worst experience I've had when renting a vehicle. Unfortunately my family and I missed our flight and were delayed 24 hours. I called up AutoEurope who told me that my booking would be invalidated if I didn't collect the vehicle within 3 hours of my time slot. I also called the rental company, Budget, who said that there was nothing they could do as the booking was with AutoEurope. I don't understand if I've booked a car for 2 weeks and collect a day late, what the problem is. The budget carpark in Lyon is massive and has loads of spare space to keep a car for 24 hours until we arrive. As far as I can see, AutoEurope wiped their hands of this and should have done more. I won't be using them again. "

" I booked car hire last minute at a bargain price and in a rush. I then read some of the negative reviews and wondered what I had let myself in for. As it turned out, it was an excellent experience. A great car at a fantastic low price. I would happily use again. As long as you understand this is a broker, make sure you are aware of the clear terms and understand that any poor service you receive from the hire company is not their fault you will be fine. Also it's normal for hire company's to take a holding deposit for a hire car in case if damage so don't be surprised, just look after the vehicle!! A great deal and I will. E a returning customer in future. "

" There is an unexplained and unauthorised charge on our credit card for EUR 103. As we returned the car without damage and with a full tank of fuel we are surprised and concerned, and request an explanation and a refund. I have not received a statement of return or any communication from Keddy/Europcar. The Keddy/Europcar representative at the desk was impolite and insisted on charging an extra EUR 40 for crossing the border (even momentarily) into Switzerland. I have never been charged for this before and it was not mentioned in the car hire details, or on the AutoEurope or Europcar websites. The car was adequate, but was still being cleaned when we arrived to collect it, and the staff member present was not helpful in identifying existing scratches. "

The staff at Europcar where very friendly but we could not get the car we booked, that was a Citroen C3, instead they gave us a Dacia Stepway, it was fairly new, but still a bit too big for the roads in the south of France. " A disgraceful interaction, which saw us wait around 60 mins to just been seen by a team memebr, then we were informed the car we paid for and had booked, was not ready and we would have to wait around 90 mins for it to be ready, we have baby and after waiting over 60 mins just to be seen, was a joke. our choices were, take a compact car, which was of no use to us, and if we did, would not refund the differnce for the vehicle we booked, so the only option that we could take was a high class car, and were charged 60 euro more per day. the team memeber didn't even offer us a better deal. totally awful experience "

" BAD. Requested a polo because of the legroom - but there wasn't one, so it would be a Corsa. Your agent offered a larger car, but I t was told I would have to pay for - take it or leave it. Drove for 90 mins to my destination and could hardly get out of the car. Thereafter hardly drove it. Found out from the agent when I returned the car that there is only one polo on site, which rather makes a mockery of the "VW Polo or similar". It would have been true to say "Corsa, or if you are very very fortunate you will get the one Polo which we have". MISREPESENTATION springs to mind. ALTOGETHER A BAD EXPERIENCE "

" My flight was delayed by 2.5 hours, when I arrived at the Rental desk there was a delay of 40 minutes due to a number of clients in front of me who were having difficulties. Eventually when i got as far as the rental desk I was informed that because i was late picking up the car they had rented the car to someone else and all that was available was a car in a higher category which would cost me another €84.75. I find this totally unacceptable, especially when the flight number was on my booking form it wasn't hard to check that it would be late arriving. Is this always the case even though I had prepaid the total rental cost. "

To be told within 13 hours a car is no longer there or available. I gave my flight ref/detail when booking. I had 0 calls, emails or anything advising the office would be shut. When i spoke to someone i asked for a manager to call me as the rude person on the phone said i will not get a refund. Even though a car was not available within 24 hours of my collection time and my booking for a car was for 3 days. I am disgusted by the service, customer service and lack of car for 3 days in a time where i was visiting my father who is in a clinic and his last days battling cancer. To land and have no car in a foriegn country and to be let down in such ways is absolutely shocking. This is the second time this has occurred and we were very thorough in inspecting and photographing damage. Last time we were charged 218 euros for a minute scratch that was only visible with a magnifier and torch. Staff said it was up to us to note damage. Another lady in the car park was given a car with a cracked windscreen which was not shown on her contract and following our advice she reported it and was given another car.Altogether 3 other people had problems so not a good record. Maybe they are relying on duping customers who don't take their full insurance cover,bad practice. "

" The only downside of the experience was that the person who had hired the car previous to me must have been a really heavy smoker, as the car absolutely stunk of cigarettes. It really got to the back of my throat and was really unpleasant. I had to go and buy a can of Febreze air freshener and a cloth. I had to spray it over the seats and wipe down the dashboard and anything plastic to get rid of the smell. I had to do this every day, otherwise the smell just came back. Apart from that, everything else was fine. "

" The Pick Up process with Keddy was worse than I've ever experienced, even worse than Goldcar! There was a long queue extending outside the reception as the service for all renters appeared to be extremely slow. When it was my turn I discovered why - the Agent (Robin) continually tried to upsell...three times! Initially for added 60 euro/day, then 30 and after disappearing for an extended period, returned with a "managers special" of 20 euro/day. I know what car I need, I rent regularly and booked exactly the car I needed for tis rental. I expect to be able to turn up, have my paperwork processed quickly and efficiently, then be able to get on with my journey. I did not receive the service I normally obtain at Europcar, I will struggle to maintain my loyalty and will consider alternatives in January 2025 "

" Despite providing flight details had to wait 15 minutes for the vehicle. The counter wasn't busy. The vehicle ended up being a battered Renault traffic which really isn't similar to a Mercedes V-Class. The car was in a dangerous state. Bits of it fell off and dragged under the car. Hi-Vis vests for all potential 9 passengers were not provided. The refuelling charges upon return were beyond extortionate. It's pretty impossible to find diesel for EUR 3.75 a litre and there's no way exactly 60 litres of it went into the tank. The fine processing charge of EUR 45 is 50% more than SIXT charge where you do actually get the car you booked. "

The service I receive from the rental companies varies from polite, fast, efficient and not pushy (as was the case with this rental) to slow, indifferent with pressure to buy extras, sometimes saying they are mandatory - eg, insisting on an international driving licence which the UK government states is not required in EU for UK drivers. I told him I hadn't noticed it and it hadn't been there when I washed the car the day before. It may have occurred at the filling station but I wouldn't be 100% sure. He was extremely unpleasant about and said that because I wasn't fully insured it was going to have to be sorted. I signed a form that he gave to me. I apologised for the small scratch on the car but he wasn't overly friendly or concerned with what I had to say. I thought I'd full insurance to cover it and believed that's what the gentleman at the desk initially said. However there was a mark that wasn't on the car before I hired it. If someone wishes to speak with me I'm happy to discuss the matter. "

At pickup the dash indicated 460k.m. range but when we returned it with a full tank the range was shown as 604k.m. So much for a full tank! Most unlikely to use this service again. "

At return to Montparnasse train station, the return car signage is so hard to find and follow. Im still waiting for this some 6 days later. I had to contact Europcar to obtain a rental close out document. Europcar, Keddys parent company, are so slack in service and trying to contact them is very challenging. " The agent was not at all typical of all my previous experiences with Europcar. He was very pushy trying to persuade us to pay 100 Euros extra for a vehicle upgrade. I also declined his efforts to sell excess insurance because I have an annual policy. On signing the contract I remarked on the long list of damage (7 items) and said it would be difficult to check in the dark. Arriving at the vehicle I tried to check, but it was inpossible to see. I also noted the vehicle unusually had 64,154 kms on the clock. I returned to the desk and asked for a different vehicle, but the agent refused. He also refused my request for a downgrade to a lower mileage/less damaged vehicle. This was also refused. He said Europcar does not allow a downgrade!! The following morning I photographed all the vehicle and corrected several important errors in the list of damage and emailed it to the agent. I did not damage the vehicle during my rental and on return fortunately there was no problem. In recent years I have rented dozens of times in France and Switzerland with Europcar (sometimes Keddy), often with Auto Europe, and have never had any problems at all. Let's hope this was an exception. "

" I was under the impression that I was hiring a car with winter tyres because it was hiring a car in February only to find out at the desk that I hadn't. The "only car that had winter tyres in the garage" which I "legally had to take" was double the original price I had paid in advance. I was also persuaded/pushed into purchasing very expensive insurance cover under the pretence that the standard insurance wasn't going to cover me in any substantial way. The car was nice to drive and did not present any problems during our trip, but I will not be recommending eurocar to anyone in the future and will be very cautious and more thorough next time I hire a car on the continent. " I am very unhappy with my rental. Firstly I felt very pressurised to take out an upgrade, insurance protection and various other add ons, including one to drive in Geneva which I have never heard if before and despite having prepaid. I have never had an experience like it and I was very uncomfortable for a long period of time it took Secondly, when I handed the car back, I was told there was a small dint in the drivers side front door which was not logged. I pointed out that it was noted on the rental agreement but he said that was a different one. We spend 3hours in the middle of the night at a total charging station to charge another 20% to get to our destination. This was the most stressful and horrible experience, being stuck in the middle of nowhere at night because the car wasnt doing what I was promised which was fast charging. When I picked the car up I was told that the usual Total garage used to refuel upon return was closed for a year so I agreed to a prepaid fuel deposit, however on my return I found the Total garage open and was able to refuel as usual. Was this a genuine mistake or an attempt to get me to incur a refuelling charge? The vehicle was not in good condition, dirty-possible due to v cold weather but also dented with lots of scratches, very difficult to see in the poor car park lighting, still they were pretty relaxed when we brought it back, it was cleaner than when we took it. " 1. The car had more damage to it than was on the rental agreement so I had to take extra pictures and return to the counter to explain. The counter staff were very friendly and changed the descriptions based on my photos. But if I had not checked before leaving it might have been a problem on returning the car. 2. Although I said on the booking form that I was travelling to Switzerland (and Germany) the car did not have a Swiss vignette so I had to pay CHF 40 at the border. This should not happen because my rental was only 5 days and the vignette lasts the whole year! In my opinion, the rental company should provide a car with a vignette if they are told upfront that the customer is travelling to Switzerland or at least agree to refund the cost of the vignette as they have the benefit of it for the whole year. I think this is very unfair and misleading. 3. I paid for the extra Autoeurope full insurance cover - but the counter staff still try to sell you additional insurance from Europcar. This is ridiculous. If you pay for the full cover from Autoeurope that should be enough! "

" The counter staff at Europcar in Lyon insisted that I did not have any insurance on the car (at all) and that there was a minimum of Euros 32,000! Given that I had no way of checking this at the time with Auto Europe, they effectively left me with no option but to take out insurance (at Euros 224 for 8 days), nearly doubling the price of the car hire. I subsequently found out through Auto Europe that what they had told me was false, and that there was insurance on the car (both 3rd party and comprehensive cover with a maximum liability of Euros 1,600 if the car was totally written off). " I booked the car as I have had many positive experiences with Autoeurope however on this occasion I was let down. I booked a car for 8pm ( a little earlier than landing to allow for the car to be ready for collection) however upon arriving at the counter a little after 8pm I found the counter closed and no option to collect the car. When looking for the details on the voucher it says the counter closes at 8pm so I find it puzzling that the rental provider would have been offered if the desk closes at 8pm. I am still awaiting an outcome of my request for a full refund. "

They said snow chains were mandatory in France so as we were hiring a car in France in winter time why are these not included!! The named driver in the other car I hired had forgotten to bring his credit car so they said they were unable to hire him the car which ok it says in terms and conditions that credit card is required.We where unable to change name driver to someone who had a credit card standing beside me and unable to use a debit card. But the original named driver was allowed to use his debit card to pay an extra 300euros for extra insurance then because of that he was allowed the car. Complete rip off!! I've used Auto Europe for my car hire at least twice a year for many years and this is the worst experience we have had, not happy at all. "

" The car we were given had a chip in the windscreen which had already started to create a crack about 1/3 across the front screen. The queue at the Europcar airport rental desk (servicing Keddy) was very long so we left to get some shopping and came back to the airport, hoping to sort something out. Although we returned 30 minutes inside advertised opening hours, the office was closed. As we were on a short break, we "managed" the situation by driving very carefully and not using the heater (having tried the heating once we saw that the crack started to expand). That said, we did feel that a car with this sort of problem should not really be considered suitable for hiring out. There were no issues when we returned the car, but the overall experience was disappointing. "

" Drop off: Due to the industrial action in France the petrol station in Marseille Airport had no fuel (along with I believe 25/30% of other petrol stations in France). If I had been aware of this problem I would have tried to get fuel fuel before I reached the airport however I was not aware so found myself unable to fill up the car before dropping it off. I expected to be charged a refuling surcharge by Europcar/Keddy (19 EUR) and am not complaning about that, but I did not expect to ripped off on the cost of the fuel. Total fuel used was only 19 litres and Europcar charged me 3.19 EUR/litre + 20% tax =3.83 EUR/litre or £3.30/litre . Total cost was 91.73 EUR for the 19 litres. Since the price of petrol in France is simlar to the UK (£1.60/litre) I found paying twice the price totaly unexceptable and just profiteering by Europcar. Although I appreciate this was not Auto Europ who made this excessive charge it does however also reflect badly on Auto Europe who act as agents for Europcar. I would not use Europcar again. "

We were made to pay for the upgrade which they initially wanted 60 Euro a day to upgrade which came down eventually to 15. So an additional 90 Euro on a £280 booking, quite steep. As it turns out they lied to us to get us to buy this upgrade, snow tires in Andorra are only a legal requirement up until 30th March and we picked the car up on the 4th April. Very angry that we manipulated into buying something that we didnt need to have. "

" It's was Eurocar which I presume is through Keddy. Upon arrival there was only 2 people in the desk with a big queue of people. So took over an hour to get the car. They then wanted to charge me £22 a day for winter tyres or £20 for snow chains a day. I could buy the same set of chains in the local spar shop for £40. And then own them. They also wanted to charge me extra for insurance even though I'd taken the higher insurance out. That had done 30k and was quite rattlley like something wasn't right. The service was due in 400km even though I had it with unlimited miles. Not overly impressed. "

" The return point is made harder to find because Avis and Hertz have put up signs directing their customers. Europcar customers need to drive the same way - it just isn't obvious (and at most other airports, they would be in different places). Could you either add a Europcar sign, or take down the Avis and Hertz signs, to just leave the generic "car hire return" sign? "

And I was charged 34 pounds which was nearly half what I paid for a week. For essentially 5 hours ( as the branch shut at 11). After a huge storm cancelling almost all easyjet flights. " Unfortunately when I arrived at the airport I was told that I did not have any insurance coverage. I explained I had paid extra for it and showed the voucher, however I was told by Theo that I was not covered at all. I asked what I had paid extra for it and he just shrugged his shoulders. This was only the second time I had hired a car and previously I had bought an annual insurance but had not renewed it, I then asked Theo if I could quickly renew it as I knew I could on my phone, he told me it was too late to do that. There were a number of people behind me and I was a single woman travelling by myself. I ended up paying 250 for the insurance for the car as he made me feel I had no choice. This was more than the original rental. I feel very upset that I was taken advantage of in this way and feel scammed which obviously is not what you want to feel at Christmas visiting elderly relatives. I would appreciate it if you could give me a name and number to take my complaint further, my complaint is really with the customer service I received at the desk although I don't understand why he was unaware of the insurance I had already paid for through autoeurope. I look forward to hearing from you. "

I tried europcar because I had noticed a barely legible europcar logo in the corner on one of the web pages. There was no explanation of the car's controls/satnav /safety features etc. We struggled to work out how to make the SatNav work in English and it took us time to work out how to operate lights, wipers etc. No help was made available or offered. We couldn't discuss any possible unrecorded damage to the car with staff as they were not available/too busy. We have now had notification of a bill which appears to charge us for an upgrade we at no time asked for or had any choice about. I have asked Auto Europe to look in to this - there has been no response at all. "

I would like to understand why I have been charged a further £240 following my reservation for the car hire in Bergerac.
When first renting the vehicle, I requested a Fiat 500L and when arrived at Bordeaux airport was offered an upgrade for 70Euros for a larger car, which I took and this car had damage to the windscreen which had 3 chips at the passenger side.
2 days after the initial hire after I arrived at my destination with no incident in the vehicle, the heat from the sun had cracked the windscreen to which I reported to Europe car immediately. I was told I should return the car to be exchanged at Bergerac airport. I would have expected that a repair service be sent to the location of the vehicle for a repair to the windscreen, but this was not offered. I returned the original car with half a tank of petrol, to Bergerac airport and was told the 183.00euro cost was between yourselves and Europcar and not my cost! So I would like to know what the extortionate costs are for? I do not expect to be penalised for a charge to a vehicle that you provided to me in the first instance with damage to the windscreen, This should never have been given to a customer in the first place.
I of course expected to pay for the petrol in the car I returned to Bordeaux airport on the 9th August, but I can not imagine half a tank would cost this amount.
Please could you explain what these costs are for as I have had absolutely no notification of any money to be taken from my account.

The car bodywork was quite dirty and a previous hirer had somehow managed to get what looked like superglue over the bodywork and had then proceeded to try and remove it with a scourer scratching the bodywork. I was not informed the car was in this condition and immediately walked back to the office to inform the staff of what I found before taking the car away. The details of the damage was then added to my contract. Bit disappointing really. I am also still waiting for my 800 euro deposit to be returned having been told it would be returned immediately. "

" Hi, We had real issues with Keddy (Europcar) at Bordeaux-Merignac Airport. My own driving license had been sent away some weeks previously due to an address change and the DVLA were delayed considerably in posting the new one back to me. I was also unable to print a PDF of my license to take with me. I was assured numerous times by the DVLA prior to our trip that I could call them from the counter and authorise my driving license details to be shared over the phone with the counter staff and thus release the car. I was also told by the DVLA that they do this "thousands of times each day" in order to release details and thus release hire cars. The Europcar (Keddy) counter-staff however refused to speak to the DVLA (despite me having them on the phone at the time and asking to be put over). They also stated "we do not recognise DVLA paperwork", despite the fact all UK licenses are surely DVLA paperwork, no? As a result, we had to transfer the car in to my girlfriend's name - someone who has NEVER driven abroad before, andnis a nervous driver at the best of times - and pay the 37euros per day surcharge for a young driver (as she is 24yo). Overall, the experience was terrible and even the DVLA on the phone were shocked at the lack of effort by the Europcar staff to try to solve the problem. They were simply interested in the 37euro per day surcharge and upgrading us to a larger car (which we had to do due to our friends over-packing anyway). Our issue is with Keddy/Europcar, and not Auto-Europe, so my 1* ratings above are aimed at them, and not yourselves. "

" First time I went to use windscreen washer I found it empty. This is an offence so good job I wasn't stopped by police. Vehicle has a huge Euro car sticker in rear window. Talk about advertising a hire car to local criminals to break into for cameras etc. Eurocar staff not interested. Car itself was brand new and no problems "

" My main criticism on collecting the car was the effort put in by the staff to get me to change my economy car for a much better one, e.g. a Mini Cooper with convertible top or a Citroen 4. At £50 extra per day, I was paying £18, it was never going to happen. My other complaint is that after my return flight was cancelled ( Air Traffic Control strike) I could not get hold of their office to try and deal with the situation, even though I was obviously ringing the number on my paperwork. In desperation I tried their Paris number but once again no ringing tone. Having said that, when we got to their office on the day the car was due back, extremely agitated because by then we were committed to returning from Nice, we were very rapidly assured that by paying a standard fee of 79.26 euros we could continue on and leave the car at Nice airport. Special thanks to Aurelia in Marseille for her help, it made our day. "

" I requested a small/economy car and when we arrived we were told we were upgraded to a bigger car. We did not want a bigger car as we stay in a village with very narrow roads and tight parking. There was no choice of car, we were told, and having to make do with a larger vehicle (a Kango - very large indeed compared with what we are used to) was actually a bit of a hassle for this trip. It would have been nice to have a choice! Otherwise, service all good, staff, condition of vehicle, no quibbles at all "

" The wait at the Europcar desk on arrival at Toulouse airport was simply unacceptable. I was extremely disappointed to find that there were 24 people ahead of me in the queue. I had to wait in this queue with two young children for 1 hour 15 minutes from the time I arrived at the desk until I was seen by one of their customer service advisers. Furthermore, when I was actually seen, I was not even given any form of apology for the length of wait which was disgraceful. I was then given extremely vague instructions by the advisor as to where I had to go to pick up the car, despite querying it with him twice. As a result, I went to the wrong car park. The total time from arrival at the desk to departing with the car was 1hr 45 minutes - pathetic "

However could i suggest a loyalty scheme for those that choose Auto Europe on regular basis not just promo weekend offers but maybe individual incentives for frequent users, automatic discounts at the checkout for loyal customers, or upgrades in class of Vehicle? this i know is probably a frequent request but would certainly get me shouting about Auto Europe to all my Friends. This transition was all the more awkward given that I had my bicycle with me and was transporting it around the airport. "
