However, after 20 minutes of messing around I convinced them to simply write down my card details and let us start our holiday. " Generally the experience with Thrifty was excellent - including the smooth and straightforward collection and car return processes. The only significant negative related to the vehicle supplied - a Kia Stonic which proved woefully underpowered to deal with the often hilly terrain in Kefalonia. The weakness, particularly at low revs, necessitated constant changing down into 1st gear to progress up even moderate inclines, and was a source of great exasperation throughout our holiday. Although I raised concerns about the vehicle at the time of collection, the only alternative that could be offered was a much larger car which was equally unsuitable for our needs. As I had paid a comparatively high booking fee with Thrifty in the hope that the vehicle supplied would be a Seat Ibiza - as shown on the Auto Europe site - or if not something very similar this is extremely disappointing and rather spoilt the whole experience. An underpowered Kia Stonic is NOT a similar car in that class. "

" Didn't meet us at Airport as I had been informed, I had to find their carlota after waiting for half an hour. The car was covered in scratches and dents. I was told not to worry about this, all will be fine. I am not an idiot and know how these companies operate. I took 25 photos of the damage and made sure the member of staff was shown in the pictures. The interior of the car was also badly stained. I was not issued any paperwork on collection. On returning the car, a different member of staff tried to imply the damage was caused by me. I then showed all the photographs to him, which were dated from the collection date. I also showed him pictures of the fuel gauge showing I had returned with more fuel than I had got on collection. I have no doubt whatsoever, had I been inexperienced or nieve in these matters and not taken all the pictures I would now be arguing the case to redeem a large amount of money exer were claiming for damages. I did not receive an email or paperwork on return and had to chase this up with your own office the following day. All in all the hire was a shambles and a farce. The car was fit for the scrap yard and exer gave the impression of being a bunch of bandits. I will never knowingly use exer again and will think seriously before using auto Europe again as I was not aware you were passing the booking to a 3rd party in the first place. The entire experience was wholly unsatisfactory, unprofessional and actually quite unsettling. "

We spent a whole day trying to contact the office, waiting for a pick up truck and waiting in a garage for 3 tyres to be replaced. He said that Autoeurope is a scam and the insurance i made with Autoeurope even if it was full coverage, didn't cover with them and made me paid an additional amount to get the full coverage. We paid for the damage waiver as I didn't have a credit card, when we returned the vehicle the way he inspected the vehicle and asked if I had any pictures implied that I would be having to pay for damage that I had not done to the car before he realised we had paid the waiver fee. I would go to a larger car hire company in future as I feel like there's no procedures in place to monitor damage to the car from previous rentals. It was dark when we collected the car so we wouldn't have noticed a small scratch or dent, which we could have easily been charged for on returning the car. "

" I was first offered a very old Nissan which had 110 thousand kilometres on the clock and frankly was in very poor condition. When I complained that I had never hired such an old and beaten up car, the only alternative I was given was a Citroen which was less old but still with 35 thousand kilometres and not a modern vehicle at all. I have never in all my years of hiring cars ever paid so much for such an old car. . The other issues was that when I booked the vehicle, autoeurope's listing said that it would be a full to full fuel policy. The tank on the vehicle I was given was only half full. When I suggested to the office staff that they could fill the tank at the next door garage in order to be in line with policy, they said that they weren't able to do this and that Auto Union's policy is in fact to require customers to return vehicles with the same level of fuel as they are given (which is practically impossible). Having hired through Auto Europe many times before I was very disappointed on this occasion and will think twice about using the site again. "

" We arrived on a late flight. The centauro office is a few minutes walk from the airport. I called them to say at 10:56 to say that I was on my way( office closes at 11) and was told to hurry as they would not wait. The car that I was given was larger than requested. I was advised to look vehicle over, but it was a dimly lit carport and you were not actually able to get out of car and look round as too narrow therefore. I didn't take a video plus couldn't see anything anyway. On return attendant noticed a small scratch at front, I have no recollection of damaging the car and the scratch looked like the car had gone into something with a sharp edge rather than another car knocking it. I was charged 350 euro for this. In retrospect, very important to take a detailed video of interior and exterior. Reviews say that this company has done this before. My husband used thrifty and they were much more accommodating. "

The next morning I phoned Enterprise who said they couldn't get to me with another car until 4.30pm nearly a full 24 hours after the brake down happened. On my return to the airport for my flight home I asked if I would be compensated for my taxi fare and loss of my car for a day and was told no because I booked the car through Auto Europe. I sent an email to Enterprise on my return home and so far after two days have not had a reply "

However, I did manage to find a petrol station fairly easily. "

" This is a new company so I just want to leave some observations about the service which I feel could be improved. We were told someone would greet us at arrivals with a sign with our name on which didn't happen and I had to call the number to let them know we were waiting before anyone came. We had booked a small car but were told that there were only two cars available, take your pick! - we chose the Suzuki Swift which was OK but had numerous dents and scratches and no petrol and a warning light on the dash. Other than that, all fine and very close to the airport which was good. I think if these service areas were improved it would be a really good alternative to the larger car rental companies. "

I had already driven out of the airport to start my journey and noticed I cannot see the road clearly from the front window screen. " I've used auto europe many times and it's been quite some time since I had an experience like this with any of your subbies, even in Spain, or with anyone else for that matter. However, our dealings with yourselves in making the booking were excellent as ever. "
" The rental was supposed to F to F but the car wasn't full, so they took money from my CC which is supposed be refunded within 12 days of our returning it full, which I think was much more than the value of the missing fuel. At best this is them forcing me to give them a loan they can earn interest on and at worst a scam if I fail to return it full and they then over-charge me. They were unable to provide the small car we ordered and did not seem to understand that their 'upgrade' to a huge Citroen C4X was not actually a good thing! We saw no evidence at all that they have any small cars and plenty that they have lots of big ones so they appear to selling something they don't actually have. On arrival the woman in the office was telling another customer that if they severely damage the car they would be liable for the full amount if they didn't buy their insurance, not just the E1100 excess. We felt throughout the holiday that we'd be in for a very rough time if we did actually damage the car. On our return she went straight to the damage they'd not notified us of before (she obviously knew exactly where it was) and asked if we had proof it was there before we took the car (no damage map was supplied with the key). As luck would have it we had spotted and photographed it despite it being really dark. We felt that this was almost certainly a deliberate ploy to defraud your CDW insurers. I suggest that you and your CDW insurers should do a bit of data mining and analysis to see if this rental location is a bit rogue. Overall, this hire was like a return to the bad old days of car hire and, although we came out of it reasonably well, we were not impressed and certainly won't be choosing Centauro again any time soon. "

" I am still waiting to hear back from Auto Europes Customer Service following an email I sent on 5/9/23. We were caught up in the Air Traffic Control problem on 28/9/23. I did ring Auto Europe during the chaos but because we had no idea if our flight would be cancelled or if we were just due for a long delay your representative could not help us - a note on our booking would probably of been of some help! It was late when the flight was eventually cancelled, however we did fly out at 6am the following morning - only to discover on arrival that Auto Europe cancelled our booking due to 'No Show' at 7.30 am whilst we were mid air. The circumstances were unprecedented, the experience caused enormous stress & anxiety. Your Customer Service team surely should be trained for such eventualities and have the courtesy to contact possible affected customers to enquire about their status before harshly canelling bookings under these circumstances. We were left with no choice but to hire another car, this severly messed with our holiday budget and quite honestly was the icing on the cake and really did spoil things for us. Appalling service. I await a full refund. "

The following day they got to the villa only to see another very old vehicle no sat nav and the person who dropped advised he only had 5 euros on him so again the tank was empty. I requested a contact at least 6 times and was promised but never sent these documents. A 900 euro deposit was paid when I collected the wrong car, this amount was taken in the name of ROYSTEMIS RAFAIL and remains as a charge on my account so this money is held by the bank. "

We ended up hiring from a lovely lady at Hertz car hire (next door to Avis at the airport) and it ended up being a cheaper price than we originally paid anyway. Very poor customer service "

This in part will be put down to the global pandemic and inflationary issues but then the resale prices have also inflated so the margins now must be significantly higher than pre pandemic. Also the vehicle was of a very low standard with poor air conditioning and power issues which caused me significant issues with the very hilly island and a car with very little torque. There was no value for me the customer and this appears to be a monopoly across all car rental in the island. (Cephalonia -Greece). "

They proceeded to charge £450 for repair. This process seemed to be set up to find chargeable issues. We were unable to rent the car due to a cyclone which happened on the Island of Kefalonia on 17 - 19/09/2020 so our flights from Athens to Kefalonia were cancelled twice. When we called them and spoke to them, they were not flexible at all and said that our booking had been cancelled. We called both Green Motion and AutoEurope on 17/09 a few hours before we were supposed to pick up the car to explain that our flight had been cancelled and that we would not be able to pick it up, but they said we would have to pay again for another reservation. Even when we explained that this would be a case of Force Majeure, and according to your terms and conditions, we would need to pay £25 only and get the rest of the money back, we were told we had no right. We have documentation which shows that a cyclone hit the island on that same day and our flight was cancelled, there was no internet on the island and some places on the island had no electricity for days. " Whilst I have no problem with your website if a vehicle is advertised as being provided by National it should be clear to the hirer that it will actually be provided potentially by another provider acting as an agent , in this case Enterprise The whole experience spoilt the first two days of my holiday messing around trying to sort it out. " Having booked through National due to their positive feedback I was somewhat dismayed to find on arrival at Kefalonia that the car was provided by Enterprise. The vehicle that was initially provided was not cleaned externally due to the staff being very busy because of a recent hurricane on the island. Whilst I fully understood and accepted this I was assured that the inside of the car had been Covid cleaned but on inspection found mountains of sand in all surfaces with a 1.5 litre bottle of water rolling around behind the drivers seat. Clearly the car had not been internally cleaned even though there was a printed form hanging from the mirror assuring me it had been. The hurricane caused issues on the island which I accept but in this world of Covid there can be no excuse for handing a vehicle over not cleaned. If Covid was present it could have gone on to infect many more people. The replacement vehicle that was provided was not much better with junk in the glovebox. It had only a quarter of a tank of fuel when the contract says full to full. The central locking in the car did not work meaning it had to be unlocked manually with the key , engine started before all the other doors could be unlocked electronically. The car was old and clearly heavily worn with plenty of damage. The following day the vehicle wouldn't start as the battery was dead through no fault of my own( lights were set to auto) breakdown services had to be called and the vehicle was returned to the hire office. Countless excuses were given about the previous weather issues causing problems and we were made to feel like we were being difficult. Eventually after 3/4 he wait a newer vehicle was provided which I went in to use without further issue. However I had fuelled the previous car before returning it due to the faults and asked if I could bring the next one back with a quarter of a tank given I had provided the company with free fuel in the faulty vehicle. You would think I had asked for the world and a senior manager had to be contacted on the phone to authorise what should have been a simple "yes no problem" So on the whole a bad experience with enterprise when I expected to be dealing with national. "

" Didn't know the Airport, so found it a bit difficult to find Abby Cars. Had to phone Auto Europe re the additional insurance as it wasn't listed on the paperwork & the Abby Cars Agent didn't understand what I was talking about. This was resolved, but what you are covered for needs to be made clearer on the booking documents I was a bit worried about the amount of scratches and dents on the car and carefully listed everything. Ironically I the rear office bumper on a metal fence and I pointed this out to the Agent when I returned the car and she chose not to ask for any payment for the repair, even though I had insurance. So, that evened things out and saved me time and effort! "

" I have used Auto-Europe several times and generally found it to be very good. I've subsequently done some research for our next trip and found that there are some local firms that are highly rated but don't feature on the site. That would be my only complaint. "
" Very poor indeed. An hour's wait upon arrival, which we were told was our fault because we were on time! The car we were given was smaller than we requested, and we were told we could have the car we wanted if we waited longer - but without any idea of when. When I pointed out it was smaller, the girl on the desk shrugged and said "I know". The car's air-con barely worked (not ideal in 41.5degC temperatures) and the brakes vibrated appallingly. I mentioned this upon return and got another shrug. Finally, the fuelling was a scam. I booked fill-to-fill, but when I got there I had to pay €77 for a tank of fuel (in a Corsa!) and was told to bring it back empty. When I returned it with half a tank, I asked whether I would get a refund: "You can go and refill it and you'll get the money back" she said – but by that point we had to rush to get our flight. I hire a lot of cars and am generally very satisfied, but this was poor. "

" I have now received the excess protection refund from Auto Europe so I can now explain about my experience with Green Motion. The vehicle was returned with a small paint mark on the rear door which t-cut or car polish would have removed, there was no dent. There were a couple of small paint chips to the plastic rear bumper which looked like stone chips. These would need attention if the vehicle were to be returned to perfect condition. Green Motion filed in a damage report and succeeded in receiving £521.74 from me (Auto Europe). I could not contend the damage report as I needed to catch my flight. The build-up of costs on the damage report is at best exaggerated and at worst fraud. I would urge you to review your choice of Green Motion as a car hire partner. You deserve better and so do customers. "

" The car was described as a Ford Fiesta, but first car received was a Fiat Panda in extremely poor condition. Upon picking it up and driving to our villa it became clear it was unroadworthy with dangerous tyres and a steering problem - when steering wheel turned there was a metallic grinding noise. Upon returning the car the next day, the staff were helpful and made every effort to sorce a new car, although this did take all day. Our second car was still not of a Fiesta standard but was road worthy, albeit the back seat was loose and the car was of a poor condition, but appeared safe. Their roadside assistance worked well when we suffered a puncture. Overall, staff were great but wouldn't use them again on account of quality of vehicles. We understand it said Fiesta, or similar but we feel a Fiesta is a larger car than the Panda or Micra we received and that a Fiesta is a generally better quality car. "

" My experience with Green Motion in the UK has always been fine, in fact, last time I've got a brand-new car, well done on them. However, I definitely wouldn't mind even if the vehicle was a couple of years old, not a problem at all but, my experience in Kefalonia, it couldn't be more frustrating and disappointing regarding to the vehicle, a clearly and extremely old shabby conditions car, extensively worn out. Not even the current model in its category, which obviously shows that, it was more than 5 or 6 years old, it even has fogged head light and a ridicules more than 83 thousand km driven. No USB and the only 12V port, never worked properly for the entire period. I'll definitely not recommend Green Motion hiring out side of the UK especially, when I could clearly notice that, all its competitors have much, much newer and in better shape apparent condition vehicles. Actually, I gentleman parked in the same place as I, approached me and made a very bad comment about the poorly maintained condition of his vehicle as well, also been hired from Green Motion. I'll definitely make this really frustrating and bad experience, just as public as I possible can in all social medias and Trip Advisor because, I do not wish for anyone to have the same such bad experience as me. " On picking up the vehicle I was offered the choice between a Nissan Micra (a car I am not familiar with) straight away or waiting for an Opel Corsa (a car I have hired many times before) to be washed and prepared. I chose to wait for the Opel Corsa. The car was fine but had many scrapes and scratches, which the counter lady duly recorded on the paperwork. The car also had a pretty high mileage (55,000 km) but worked fine over the 2 weeks I had it. Handing the car back on my return was very swift. "

" We had requested a GPS in advance - they did not have any that were working and tried to fob us off with broken ones. They were extremely rude and didn't care that they could not provide us with the service we requested. The first car they gave us have over 98,000 km on the milegae clock. The car was not fit for purpose, the gear box was faulty as in you could change up gears but not down, at first the refused to swap the car saying that I did not know how to drive a car with gears! this is not the case I have been driving for 30 years plus. They finally agreed to swap the car the next day but were again extremely rude and insulting stating that I did not know how to drive. The car that we got in exchange was slightly better but again had almost 50,000 km on the mileage clock, this car was dented and scratched all over and had ineffective seat belts, but it was at least driveable. They were the rudest nastiest people we have ever dealt with in Greece and are clearly operating a cowboy business as we saw two other customers returning cars to them on the day we collected our car. This company are a disgrace and giving your company a bad name. YOU SHOULD CANCEL THEIT CONTRACT IMMEDIATELY "

It was also a car with a number of dents etc, and I had the feeling that as we arrived late it was the only car available. I would also contest that a Peugeot is not similar to the Hyundai i30 category that I had booked. The rubber on the windscreen wipers was falling off so the wipers hardly cleaned the screen. If we had had to use the wipers in the rain it would have been very difficult to have seen ahead clearly. Quite a shame when you spend nearly £300 on a rental that advertise a better and newer car than the one we have been given. Whatever class you pay for, you never expect to be given such a low standard car. I am quite happy to provide pictures if you do so require. Worst of all, when I told the employee that I would like a different car, she was pretty aggressive telling me that she did not have any other car, which did not seem true at all. " Very bad experience using Auto Europe this year in Malaga. We rented a car from Inter rent via Auto Europe - we ended up leaving our pre-paid rental after waiting an hour, with no prospect of actually getting the car we hired. Had to rent direct from Europcar. We wasted £48. No refund. AutoEurope do themselves no favours by continuing to offer inter-rents cars - they have deservedly poor reviews. Auto Europe should stop using poor performing car hire companies. "

When returning the vehicle they pointed out a paint mark on the underneath aspect of the drivers wing mirror - I had had no incidents so I know I had not caused the damage. After some debate thy decided not to charge me, but given the state of the car when I picked it up it would have been very inappropriate. I would prefer to rent cars wthout significant body damage in the future. "

" Unfortunately our experience was not good. On collection we found the front counter ladies rude and officious, with the young lady who checked the car refusing to mark down anything but big scratches and shouting at us repeatedly - as a result we took pictures of the vehicle damage to cover ourselves. The vehicle was old and damaged (86000 Ks), but seemed ok. However on 20 Jun, we pulled over to look at a view and as we stopped we heard a strange popping sound. On checking the car the front passenger side wing had dropped. Further investigation showed that the front bumper of the vehicle had obviously been damaged and fixed by fastening it in place with x 2 tie wraps - one of which had obviously snapped - hence the drop (photo's are available). It was obvious that if the remaining one snapped the whole front right bumper would drop and could cause a major accident. We returned the car the next day and after some discussion, a male employee there agreed that it was unsafe. It was changed for another car, but again the same lady was rude and abrupt, the car again was old and damaged (56000 Ks) but met our needs for the rest of the holiday. On drop off, there were no damage problems or issues identified, the car was signed back in and we were told that there would be no charges, but we again found the front counter staff (2 ladies) quite blunt and rude - they perhaps would benefit from attendance at a customer service course. "

Prices are very competitive - speaking to other guests at the hotel they were being charged twice as much by local hirers for less time and older, smaller vehicle. We recommended Auto Europe to them and advised them to book prior to arrival. We always book via Auto Europe and will continue to do so. "

We have dealt with them many times over the years.They stay with you whilst you check and agree vehicle condition and are happy to note any marks etc on the vehicle prior to hand over. We pick up/return directly to airport. Vehicle is checked again on return by them quickly and efficiently. Card details are taken on pick up as guarantee but provided vehicle is returned in same condition we have never had any issues and no monies have ever been taken from account. " National in Kefalonia were without doubt the friendliest and most helpful car hire supplier that I have ever used. They were extremely efficient and when an issue arose with the first car supplied, as would be expected..however their approach and genuine friendly approach to correcting the issue was exemplary. They were without doubt the BEST supplier of hire cars that I have ever used and I have probably rented in excess of 100 times around the world and UK. The team there especially Vangelis were just so helpful and happy in providing the best service. Totally recommend and writing to National to pass on my comments as service like that should be recognised. "

I have user National and Alamo all over the world and the service is very good but the costs are becoming a major factor in my future decisions. " service was good but the car had accident damage to the front drivers side wing,various scratches and dents,when i mentioned a missing wheel hubcap i was told not to worry,the inspection was carried out in the dark with a moblle phone light,the smaller scratches and dents were not seen by us until the following morning.This was slightly worrying as we obviousley didnt want any reprisals when we returned the vehicle However the car ran well and we had no problems at all...just abit tatty!!
