Initially, everything was fine. However, 2 days later we still hadn't received the deposit back and saw that Thrifty were trying to take the same amount of money again. OVER £500. Trying to get someone on the phone at thrifty was pretty much impossible. I had to argue with the reservations team to put me through to a real person rather than filling in a form where a reply takes 3-5 days... When I eventually spoke to someone they admitted the accidental charge but informed us we wouldn't be getting the money back for FIVE DAYS. This is completely unacceptable and ruined the end of our trip as we still had a couple of days remaining and hadn't budgeted losing £500. "

" It was good until I returned the vehicle! The fuel tank was half empty. Dollar said on pick up that I would be charged 3.96 dollars for any fuel used to top up the tank. I didn't realise that I had to agree this price at collection and if i didn't i would be charged a different price. When I dropped off the car I mentioned the fuel tank was half empty and asked if they could confirm the price. I was told that I would be charged 11 dollars/gallon! So i had to drive round Las Vegas to find a petrol station. I managed to do this but this experience left a very bad feeling as I felt there was no justification in charging 11 dollars other than ripping off the customer! "

" We had two issues with the car- firstly low pressure in a rear tyre which required us to put air in on three occasions. Secondly the car dash said it needed a service in 800 miles. We were going to be doing more than 1000 at that point so rang Alamo on several occasions. They advised we go to Enterprise in Lake Tahoe near to where we were staying to swap cars. We went on three separate days only to be told sorry no cars available. We had been told that there would be cars available after the weekend. Clearly there were none. We ended up having to have an oil change on the car. We ended up wasting nearly two hrs that day as a result. We felt we were being fobbed each time at Tahoe. "

" Counter staff explained that although I had booked an Intermidiate SUV via AutoEurope they said it was booked as an EV. I explained that I would prefer a gas vehicle, they said they could upgrade me for a total of $40 to which I agreed. When the process had gone through I noticed that it was in fact $40 per day for the 7 day period, not $40 in total. I declined the upgrade as I was mis-sold this by the counter staff. " I will never book with Thrifty again after this experience at Las Vegas airport. On arrival at the shared Dollar / Thrifty counter fellow customers were being told there was a 2 hour wait to get a car after finally getting to the check in desk. When we came to check in we were told that there were no cars in the class we had to booked at that if we didn't want to wait we could pay approx $15 to $20 per day more to upgrade. As we were booking a car for 24 days this was not a small amount so declined. When I went down to the garage to see how long would need to wait, bearing in mind we might have to wait 2 hours, I was simply given the keys to a car we would have to upgrade to! It seems extremely dishonest to try and pressure people to upgrade for extra money, if we had paid we would be none the wiser that we had been conned, I wonder how many people had paid this in desperation to get a car? The attendant told us to wait by the benches there. We had to wait 2 hours during which the attendant did not provide any information about when our car would be ready, was extremely rude & dismissive and would walk away or start using her mobile phone whenever we approached her. We had to return to the check in counter three times but were told to wait for the manager (Raven) who eventually appeared. We checked in at 08:44 and left at 10:41 and so lost 2hours of our day rental. The customer service was appalling and the worst we've ever experienced. "

That was not correct - there is nothing in the terminal and you need to take a bus about 10 minutes via motorway to the rental complex. And again I understand the 'or similar' caveat for the rental type but as Auto Europe has so many options it very much felt like I was specifically taking the big American car as those were a premium over everything else. " The pick up was frustrating. I had paid extra for a large American car but got provided with something very different - a Nissan. While I appreciate that the caveat is always 'or similar' there were many rental options, and this one was specific and was more expensive. I've got nothing against a Nissan but I'd paid extra for the large American beast. They eventually found a very rough Chevy Tahoe. It was old, filthy and had paint falling off. After receiving the keys we were then prevented from leaving the car park because the car had a safety fault. There was writing on the windscreen essentially saying the car was condemned but they still wanted us to take it out. They suggested we could come back the next day and they might have an American version but they had no idea if they would or not. I found that a bit odd- surely Dollar rentals at Vegas airport would know what vehicles are due to be returned to Dollar rentals at Vegas airport, but according to them they had no idea. Anyway we did come back the next day and got a Tahoe. It was dirty, it was a 2018 model but by this stage we didn't care so took that as our rental. It was big, American and awesome so apart from being a bit old and dirty we loved it. Oh and they hadn't done things like filled the washer fluid but that was only a minor irritation in comparison. "

In Las Vegas the rental companies are all together at a purpose built building on Gillespie - 14 rental companies and 1000's of cars. With Alamo - a quick check in and then the lift to the 3rd Floor - over to the man on site - any of the 50+ cars in that row - choose make; colour and how new - great - then drive to the exit. We had a slow puncture so took the vehicle back - here is a ticket - go check out a new car. Because of the problem we upgrade to a Full size Nissan Altima - and quite new - great service; great cars and a good rental location. "

I told the agent we were going to Disneyland for 3 days and he added $209.79 to my credit card. We didn't need or use tolls which he said were compulsory. This is a scam, misleading and bad practice. Very angry and disappointed. "

Had to pay all charges again and now still trying to claim a refund from auto Europe. "

" Sadly the Advantage car was not only dirty to start with and had part of it's bumper missing, on the most important day that we needed it, the whole purpose for this visit to Vegas, the car's orange engine warning light came on a few hundred miles into our journey. This was a particularly special trip out to Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, a tour which had needed to be booked months in advance! I stopped the car, got out the handbook which said do not drive the car, contact a VW dealer and phoned the Advantage breakdown assistance. When I advised Fernando of the remaining duration on our journey just to get out to the tour company in Page and then a 5 hour journey back to Vegas, he recommended we did not drive it further. He gave us the option to either drive it back to Vegas and send a pickup truck if we broke down roadside or wait where we were and he would send someone to get us. As we were 3 hours away from Vegas I decided to try and get the car back to Vegas as Fernando suggested. Thankfully the car made it back without further incident and we were given a replacement car however by this time we were too late to be able to turn around and get back out to Page to join our tour. The tour company were fully booked for the rest of our duration in Vegas. This was a tour I had been planning for several years and a treat for my 40th birthday. I cannot describe how upset I was to have missed out on this; to have paid thousands for a trip to Vegas for this reason to find I missed out on it. I have hired cars with many different renters in the USA and other parts of the world including Hertz, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise etc and never had a problem. Sadly I will not recommend Europcar / Advantage. "

" Lied to by counter staff- was told as i was driving across state into California i would need their 'E-Z Toll' pass at an extra $10 per day due to tolls being used everywhere on highways in California and that i would not be able to pay any tolls locally or online. Being from the UK and not having to deal with tolls i felt the counter staff used this to scare me into agreeing to the EZ-Toll pass. I soon realised i had been lied to and sent out an email to yourselves and you local agents Advantage. It took AutoEurope 3 days to reply to me! I had to drive to a local Advantage office and have the EZ Toll pass removed from my contract but had to pay for the days it had been active even though i had not driven through any toll roads. "

" Our first vehicle developed a fault (the engine management warning light came on) and on contacting Dollar were told to return the car immediately. I did so and was assured that there would not be any charges, although we did not fill the fuel tank so it was 3/4 full. I selected three more cars and each was rejected at the exit point. Eventually the manager? gave us a "free" one car upgrade and this car was fine for the rest of our 3 week trip. All the staff were very polite and apologetic, however it took us about two hours to exchange the first car. On return we were told that all Chevy Malibu cars had a recall, so our car should not have been rented. I was therefore surprised to be charged $18.98 for fuel. I complained to Dollar and although a confirmation email was received, no further contact has been made. I would have been happy to pay for the used fuel but NOT at Dollar's high rates. The car we were offered was California registered (unlike other cars on the parking lot) which was suspiciously convenient since we were dropping our rental car in L.A. I left the car in my Hotel parking in San Francisco to travel to Las Vegas for 2 days and I booked a car from Alamo for 21-23 June. Nobody told me anything about any problem. When I arrived to Las Vegas they told me from Alamo that I am not allowed to book a car while I rented a car elsewhere at the same moment. I cannot see where is the problem! And I had to seek for another company car at 10 pm! From other companies they told me this is not a problem! And, even more importantly, Auto Europe charged me for the Las Vegas car rental before waiting for the confirmation that I received the car! I am still awaiting for the refund! Even you may wish to ban a 2nd car rental at the same moment, you should not allow me to proceed with the 2nd rental "

The car was a 2015 VW Passat diesel, with only 10,000 miles on the clock - assume this car was bought cheap from VW following storage on a deserted plain after the diesel gate scandal. The agent at pick-up attempted to convince us that we should take optional Roadside Recovery policy, as the car was "4 years old"! The car and engine were generally acceptable, but the most annoying thing was that the radio turned off and on at random. We mentioned this to staff at drop-off, but they did not seem so surprised! "

Tried to hard sell me extra insurance for wheels tyres pointed out I was already ready covered his was very rude and said it won't cover me. " Booked car hire with Europcar through Auto Europe. Once arrived at Las Vegas airport discovered that Advantage Car Rental run operations for Europcar. Would not have booked with Advantage if I had known beforehand. They have a rating on Trustpilot of 1.5 out of 10. Had booked the car hire on a full to full basis. Was told by the Advantage rep that fuel bought through them was cheaper than on the street. Wasn't explained until after payment that I had bought a tank of fuel from them at the start of the rental, had thought I would buy from them at the end. Paid $3.12/gallon from Advantage although found lots of places selling at $2.99 and cheapest being $2.79. Also meant that I had to take the car back empty, which can be tricky. Didn't want to leave too much in the tank and didn't want to run out of fuel. Hence the reason I had booked full to full! Second day returned car number 1 because of a recurring noise on the drivers front wheel. Exchanged for another vehicle. Third day returned car number 2 because the remote key fob didn't work properly. Exchanged for another vehicle. At the moment have been charged £189.10 for fuel and deposit. I am waiting for the deposit to be returned. At the moment not had any feedback as to when and how much will be returned. As you can see not the best experience in renting a car. "

" I've had some bad experiences in the past when hiring cars abroad but have used Auto Europe for several years now with various car hire suppliers and can honestly say that I have never had a problem. Having the pre-paid Auto Europe voucher to present at pick up does seem to smooth the process somewhat. "
" The car rental building at Las Vegas is huge with every car-hire company that has ever been seemingly represented. The Alamo outlet was well signed and easy to locate and although it appeared extremely busy the availability of automated check-in machines reduced the queues for people like us who prefer human interaction and we were seen within quarter of an hour. Check in was very smooth, the clerk was very helpful and friendly and although many additional options (additional insurance, change to SUV/4x4, GPS, prepaid fuel etc) were offered, as expected, we made it iobvious that we were not interested they were not laboured upon and our paperwork was sorted very promptly. We were given clear instructions about how and where to go to pick up our vehicle (on the next floor up) and once there the handover took place with the minimum of fuss. The rep was helpful and able to answer all of my queries (how to adjust the seat, where does the key go etc.) - he even advised us that we had been given an upgrade free of charge - which was nice! Returning the car was also verey smooth - the route is very well signposted once you hit the airport road - you can't really go wrong. Again the staff were friendly and helpful directing you to exactly where they wanted you to park and walking round the car with you once they'd checked the mileage and fuel etc. "

" I appreciate we only ever book the Basic Compact car class but Ive never had such a low spec car, this car not only didnt have remote locking it only had manual locking, you had to do each door individually which was a pain, and manual windows. It had 49,600 miles on the clock, by far the highest Ive seen in a rental. The dashboard had a loud rattle, the boot rubber seal was hanging off so my luggage got wet, the rear window gradually opened itself and there was only half a tank of fuel in it so I had to take it back and wait. There was an old muffin wrapper in the footwell and so many scratches on the back it looked like it had literally been reversed through a hedge. Surprisingly it drove ok. "

I spent quite some time registering and giving all my details but I thought it will be worth it when I collect the car and don't need to get in any long queues. We arrived at rental car centre Las Vegas and there was NO EUROPCAR check in desk, we enquired and was told there wasn't EUROPCAR we needed to go to ADVANTAGE. Why wasn't I told this when booking. We found Advantage check in, I think it looked to be the smallest check in area with the longest queue. We asked where was the online check in machine and was told they do not do online check in you have to wait in the queue. They said we should have been informed of this when booking. We queued 45 minutes and then to make it worse we weren't given a choice of car. We visit Las Vegas every year and for many years used Alamo who do online check in and give a choice of car. I blame this poor service to Autoeurope, I booked Alamo with you last year and got great online booking service. I expected the same this year and was let down greatly. Absolutely awful CRAP service. " My past experiences with Europcar have been very good, however this car was supplied by Advantage car rental who I would not use again. Although I had prepaid, On collection of the car I was told that I had to pay an additional $78 dollars which the counter staff could not tell me what it was for, but without paying I couldn't have the car. They also wanted a $200 deposit, neither of these charges had been mentioned at the time of booking through AutoEurope. I had ordered an intermediate car but when given the car I would class it as a compact, there was only room for 1 suitcase in the boot, when I queried this with Advantage they said that this was their intermediate car. "

Tyre pressure gauge came on on the second day, topped up at garage by ourselves, but it came on again on way back to airport, should have been checked before renting out. Could it be a slow puncture? " Long queue to check out the vehicle, and had to queue outside of the loading area to return the car as the lines were completely backed up. Car itself (Jeep) was fine. "
" The mimimum level of care I expect when renting a car is.... A, The car is safe and roadworthy B, the car is clean and tidy Dollar failed this test. The car was dirty inside and outside. I had to remove rubbish from the car before leaving. Totally unacceptable level of service especially as I had to wait 20 minuets for the car to be provided and yet still it had bottles and other rubbish. "

Its not your fault but the cost is not proportionate to the risk involved. If you are legally driving and have a good record I can only see this as extra revenue for the hire companies. I am too lazy to do anything but it seems to me to discriminate on the basis of age which must be against some European law some where. "

" The company that was used (Dollar Rent a Car) in Las Vegas was terrible. I waited over 45 minutes in line to pick up the car as there were only a few agents available to help customers. I finally got a car and hit the road. I have a bug splatter on the windscreen but had to pull over to clean it off as the car did not have any washer fluid in it. It was completely empty. I filled it with water but that did not help much. I told this to the agent when I returned the car and they said the car was a pre- pay so could not not deal with any issue I had with the car. Giving the car to me like that was dangerous. The service at Dollar is very poor and no one seemed to care about the customer. "

" The desks were swamped at midday on a Monday, with the longest queue in the Rental Centre. I timed my wait at 1 hour 5 minutes. A complete shambles and not one apology at any point. Without telling you, they automatically add additional insurance extras, then invite you to work through several screens, accepting them as you go, one of which will commit you to these extras. They don't mention these extras until challenged, then restart the entire transaction somewhat unpleasantly. It was very clear some of the agents were spending ages "upselling" renters. TV screens declared "cars available", yet downstairs there were none and a 2nd queue was joined until another car showed up. An awful experience. At least the car only had 20,000 miles.... "

" The Kia car we were supplied with at LAS airport was in poor condition. (around 30k miles on the clock) On the I15 a piece of trim on the underside of the front passenger wheel arch fell down and rubbed against the front wheel. It looked as though it had been loose for some time.having pushed it back into position we continued are journey but when we were about to check out of our hotel two days later we discovered the tyre on that wheel was flat. We reported it to Dollar who sent a much newer vehicle but it took Five hours to arrive which were lost from our holiday. The guy who brought the replacement was very good. "

" After a long flight had to wait a while as each agent was taking a long time trying to get "extras" and "upgrades" from each customer. During my turn tried to get me to agree to extra insurance which I declined. Tried hard to convince me I had to pay for a full tank of fuel before leaving. I had to eventually show the detailed wording of my auto Europe booking before they reluctantly agreed I could return car with a full tank provided I produced a receipt as proof of purchase refuelling within 10 miles of car centre. I never use car rental firms which have prepaid fuel policies which are a ripoff which is why I like auto Europe return car full option. Really annoys me when firms like Dollar try to hard sell things you don't want or need. "

" Wow, the service at Las Vegas from Dollar was awful. There were 2 members of staff dealing with about 80 people in the queue. It took just over 2 hours to get processed. I wish they would have an express line for us that have fully inclusive vouchers and don't need to be sold London Bridge along with the rental. It was awful. When i dropped the car back and walked past their counters, again 1 member of staff and at least 30 people waiting. I will avoid Dollar in the future at this location. I would say the rental car was fine and i had no issues with the actual rental other then the 2 plus hours to get the car, and the always trying to upsell using different terminology for the same insurances all the time. " The car was fine but picking it up was a pain. The Dollar pick up desk in Vegas was undermanned and the only company with a long line. High pressure selling tactics to add on extra unnecessary insurance was another reason for the delay. After an hour and a half in the line there were no cars ready in the pick up area. We were however able to pick up a larger car for the same money ...... Good if you don't care about petrol costs. Dollar have been better in the past and this overbooking is common in the US with most companies, just be prepared after a long flight. "
" Excellent, as usual! Everything went as expected - made our booking on-line whilst abroad two days before needed vehicle. No problems at all with the booking process. Always try and use Auto Europe in preference to others when I need a holiday rental car and will continue to do so. "

The only slight 'niggle' was that I turned up at the Dollar desk to complete any necessary 'paperwork' fifteen minutes before the rental time started and was asked to come back in about twenty - thirty minutes - even tho' there seemed no reason why we couldn't get everything underway at that time. The car was garaged in a poorly lit multi-storey car park so it was difficult to pick out pre-existing marks on the paint/bodywork before we took the vehicle away (which bothered me a little). Incidentally - we had a breakdown with the car - no fault of Dollar tho'. Dollar roadside support sorted everything out. In spite of thes minor issues I would be very happy to use them again "

" Very good low mileage car, but badly prepared, Windscreen reservoir empty. Engine coolant low so it ran hot. We topped up washer and radiator levels at own cost. Interior only superficially cleaned. Inside windscreen very dirty. Some exterior minor damage which despatcher in Las Vegas declined to register. Called it "wear and tear". We returned the car with further damage due to a rear end shunt. Although we had already filled in all details (including other party insurance) we had to stand for 25 minutes in 110 degree heat until all other customers had been dealt with before the employee returned to complete the accident report.
