Car hire at Las Vegas Airport - Gateway to Nevada

Located in the heart of Clark County, near the southern tip of the golden state of Nevada, Las Vegas is an ever-evolving metropolis that's forever reinventing itself in the interests of entertainment. This vibrant, fun-based year-round destination boasts over three hundred days of wonderful weather, with spring and autumn mostly warm and mild and the peak months of July and August hot and sunny. Over 40 million people descend on Las Vegas annually and as a result the city continues to exude the same kind of pioneering spirit that first brought it up from a few springs in the desert to the wonderland it is today.

Reaching Las Vegas is easy thanks to its ultra-modern airport located just a few miles south of the city centre. Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport (LAS) is almost a city in itself with free Wi-fi throughout, numerous mobile charging points at your disposal, an abundance of safe-deposit lockers, excellent 24-hour food options, dozens of nearby hotels and even 1,400 slot machines to amuse passengers before and after their flight. Currently ranked 7th on the list of America's busiest airports, LAS caters for over 50 million passenger movements each year generated by a growing number of renowned airlines, most notably British Airways (from London Heathrow, plus seasonal services from Gatwick) and Virgin Atlantic (also from London Heathrow).

But Las vegas is so much more than a mega-tourist epicentre in the middle of the Mojave Desert. There are vast stretches of magnificent landscapes in all directions, and all within easy reach of the city. With a low-cost car hire from Las Vegas Airport you can visit immensely scenic settings like Death Valley (the USA's largest national park outside of Alaska), Red Rock Canyon (popular for its head-spinning 13-mile one-way drive), Valley of Fire (famous for its unusual sandstone formations) and the awe-inspiring Hoover Dam, all reachable in an hour or two. With a bit more time on your hands you can venture further and visit the mighty Grand Canyon (one of the world's great natural wonders) and Zion National Park in the neighbouring state of Utah. The lovely city of Reno offers great road-trip potential from Las Vegas, as does Los Angeles, the great movie mecca, which is also within a manageable driving distance of Sin City in a few hours on Interstate 15, the motorway that connects the two cities.

There are countless possibilities for pre-flight dining around LAS with some of the more popular options being Starbucks, Corcoran's Irish Pub, Life is Good, Candy Cove, The Great American Bagel Bakery, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Burger King. Three large Duty-free stores are also located at McCarran International Airport with an extensive assortment of sweets, cosmetics, skin-care products, fragrances, tobacco and alcohol products available featuring many top brands from around the world. Other on-site facilities include a modern fitness centre, several bureaux de change (this is Vegas after all!), a Harley-Davidson merchandise store, massage rooms and, of course, more than 1,400 slot machines! Another major feature that's very popular with passengers is the Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum where many rare exhibits are on display.

How to get to and from Las Vegas Airport

Situated just off Interstate 15, Las Vegas Airport is located a little more than a mile from the southern end of the Strip and about 6 miles south of downtown, with good access from both the north and the south of the city. If you are driving your car hire at Las Vegas Airport to or from the Strip then take Paradise Road and follow the signs, which are very easy to follow both to the airport and the Strip itself. All forms of public transport leave from just outside the terminals' Arrivals Halls. Bus routes 108 and 109 serve the airport (Terminal 1 only) and run to the city centre with a journey time of about 30 minutes, while the RTC Westcliff Express (WAX) links both terminals with downtown Las Vegas. A large number of shuttle services also connect the airport with the city centre, stopping at several hotels on the Strip en route. Once inside the airport, please note that a free shuttle bus service runs between the terminals at regular intervals.

    Parking Tips

Many major hotels located on the Strip still offer free parking, so make sure you know exactly where your hotel is located and whether or not parking is permitted once you have picked up your car rental from Las Vegas Airport. There are many car park facilities at hotels, attractions and shopping centres located all over Vegas where you'll pay for parking but the prices are quite reasonable compared with many popular tourist destinations around the world. As a security precaution, you might sometimes be asked to show identification when entering certain car parks, so make sure you have full ID with you when parking your vehicle. Note that downtown Las Vegas doesn't have any designated free parking garages, although certain street parking areas are free of charge after 6pm.
