No apology for the wait, customer service skills not apparent. Then as no cars available on her screen so we were sent downstairs to garage. One person available with no cars and complaining he had been alone all day and had no stock. Two in front of me in the queue suddenly turned to 10 with 7 behind me, all wanting a car and no cars available. An altercation then occurred and the agent barricaded himself into the office awaiting intervention from a superior. Approx an hour later a SUV was found for us and we could move off. You will note though from the condition above this was not their most prestigious vehicle, but we didn't want to wait any longer having flown for 9 1/2 hours before. We returned the vehicle and it was given a cursory look by the agent, who then scribbled a couple of words on the agreement and said everything was fine and we were free to go. It was only when we reached security in the airport that I found the car keys in my pocket. It immediately occurred to me that this was a potential scam - how can it be possible to return a vehicle without the fuel being checked? Fortunately we had time to return to Dollar, and regrettably I had two serious arguments with staff at both the rental counter and the drop-off location. Fortunately I had the foresight to record these in case Dollar tries to fraudulently charge my credit card for "lost key", fuel or damage. I also recorded the condition of the vehicle on return and the fuel level. Please would you take this issue up with Dollar and advise me of their feedback. "

" In general terms I was very happy with Alamo. The service, the staff etc at Miami airport were very helpful, efficient and friendly. The one issue was with the car. We hired a Mustang convertible and chose the one we liked on collection (a feature that is really good by the way). We then set off on a <100mile journey with the roof down. After a while we wanted to put the roof up and found it didn't work, so we had to finish the journey getting over-exposed to the sun. Not ideal especially as it was the end of the afternoon on a Sunday. To our surprise, on arrival in Key West we contacted Alamo and got a like for like replacement sorted in a couple of hours. The staff in Key West (I think in the National outlet) were also very responsive and helpful. Car issues happen from time to time, so it's just one of those things - frustrating but it allowed the team to show how good they are. "

After a 10 hour flight AVIS staff recognize you're not at your sharpest and pile on the costs without you noticing! Very disappointed with such a large company! Never again! "

" The car was not in good condition, the seats were dirty and marked. The car had over 36,000 miles on the clock and was underpowered. On taking the car back the journey (normally 4 hours) was 6 hours and thus we were running late. The traffic around the airport was stationary and I just couldn't get to the gas station without risking missing my flight. The staff were unsympathetic although they clearly knew of the traffic issues but still charged me $64 dollars for fuel at $9.99 per gallon. I had been filling the car to full for less than $25. Scandalous and not very sympathetic to the situation. I have been hiring vehicles in the USA for 40 years and have never taken one back not fuelled. After paying over £1,000 for just 2 weeks hire this was the last straw. It is unlikely I will use Thrifty or their partner Dollar, again. "

" Positive: Car was comfortable, reliable and clean. It was ready on pick-up and drop-off was very quick. Negative: There were lots and lots of scratches on the car. I asked staff about them, they said take a video. There was no comment on the documentation provided. I took a video, there was no comeback, but it did delay my start and I was concerned that some scratches might be claimed as 'new' on return. I was introduced to 'toll charges' at the desk, told they were everywhere and advised to buy a 'toll pass' for $110. After travelling for 12 hours, I was too tired to argue and took them at their word. Actually, I ended up going through maybe 5 or 6 tolls, so I think paying them separately would have been cheaper, assuming that Dollar didn't slap an exorbitant 'administration charge' on top. I felt there should have been information about this in the booking, advising of toll charges, cost of a pass, and any related admin charge if not taking the pass option. If they offer it to you at the desk, they clearly could offer it to you at booking or within a few days of booking, so it could be researched before accepting. "

" I'm a returning customer to Alamo and I had great experience with this company during my trip in Oct 2018 (I participated Hydroflight World Cup as paramedic and sports medicine volunteer). However, this time my choice of the company got in in trouble. First of all, GPS wasn't included to the price (even I've chosen option with GPS during booking, but I've booked through Auto Europe and should address this complaint to them). At the desk in MIA I was offered to change class of the car and spend about USD 150 more. No alternative with cheaper GPS option was proposed. Also, when I returned the car I was charged on my corporate credit card by mistake. I checked with Alamo employee in advance if it was possible to use my private debit card for any changes and got positive response. I have permission from my employer to use corporate credit card for car rentals including off work car rentals, but with strict condition that no charges go to this card. Therefore I had very serious issues at work and can loose permission to use corporate card for rentals which would stop me in rentals completely. This is very unfortunate situation and I'm sure that for World cup 2020 I should choose another rental company. However, I should admit that cars which I rented from Alamo are in perfect condition, front desk and return service is fast and everything is organized perfectly, except that two unfortunate issues. That's a pity for me that I have to choose another company, but I'm even not sure that I would be able to rent any car in any country anymore if permission will be withdrawn by my employer. "

I said I was not prepared to pay this and he said I would struggle to travel around Miami without it and changed his friendly persona. I was booked to drive a Kia Forte intermediate car but he insisted I was getting a Kia Soul which is basically a square box on wheels! probably his way of getting at me for not agreeing to pay for the tolls package. I managed to get around Miami no problem after downloading the Paytollo app on my phone for $20. It is back to Avis for me. "

Counter staff were lovely but did try tempting me with sports cars and other alternatives when I wanted and had booked an SUV. I've also discovered an additional check out fee of nearly £200 and I've no idea what for as budget haven't sent me an additional invoice, which makes this a very expensive rental, that had broken down on the way back to the airport and left us waiting for budget's call out guys for several hours, causing us to arrive late at the airport and have to run through the terminal on arrival to catch the plane, which had already boarded. I paid out an additional $160.00 to upgrade the car to a fully loaded Cheverolet Camero SS 2019 model with just 3000 miles on the clock. I also paid out to put my 22yr old son on the insurance. The car was fantastic. I was glad I made the choice. I have no idea of the total sum paid? I will have to wait for the credit card bill! "

On this occasion we went through the normal check in procedures but when we went to collect our vehicle my wife liked the look of convertible so, as it was her 65th birthday, I agreed to go back to the front desk to inquire about a possible upgrade. My only concern is with the high cost (+$60) for the SunPass Tolls option which seemed overly expensive and accompanied by a bit of a hard sell with menaces of fines and admin charges if not taken. This showed Thrifty in an exploitative mode rather than customer friendly as toll charges could easily be passed directly to customers' bills with no extra fees necessary or a reasonable flat admin charge of say $10- $15/ All their cars are license plate registered for tolls already. . " There were two distinct problems with the agency that Europcar uses at Miami Airport, Advantage Rent a Car. Book in. After the normal high-pressure selling of options, that I did not need, you are required to go through the disclaimers using a minuscule terminal at the desk. This has a very small screen with even smaller font size, meaning it is impossible to know what you are actually signing away, additionally you have to scroll through each section which was not working correctly so the agent had to scroll it through for you. He was also less-than-helpful, at best, during this process. I had absolutely no idea what I was signing away! The customers in front of me had exactly the same problems. Driving. Whilst I had the car I checked if it had a spare wheel. The handbook said the model was supplied with either a space-saver spare wheel, or a repair kit with compressor. This car had neither, making our travel quite stressful as we spent a lot of time on freeways. When I returned the car and discussed this with the Advantage agent she said they take all the gear out of all their cars, adding that if you have any tyre problem you have to call them out, with possible exorbitant call out fees! For these two reasons I have to downgrade the Europcar rating. I have not had similar problems with other Rental companies through Europcar bookings in the past. I suggest Europcar re-assess the suitability of Advantage as one of their agency organisations. "

" Purely by chance i discovered that the cost of the rental reduced between booking and commencement of the rental. I did re-book and Auto Europe did promptly refund the difference. So you really need to have your wits about with Auto Europe. "
" As we were 4 adults travelling with luggage I reserved a standard SUV which was depicted as a Hyundai Santa Fe on the Auto Europe webaute. On arrival at the Alamo counter I was shown a foto of a Hyundai Tucson and told this is a standard SUV which I knew was not big enough for our requirements. I was forced into the situation of an upgrade or cancelling without notice. The counter clerk told me the upgrade was to a brand new vehicle. The vehicle was 3 months old with 34000 mikes on the clock and wasn't well prepared. When I rent a vehicle I don't expect a new one. I do expect a vehicle of the size advertised that is legal/safe/reliable for the duration. Why I need to be told it's brand new when it isn't is just misleading! I was stitched up good and proper between Alamo and Auto Europe. Never had this trouble with US Rentacar. I will stick with them in future. "

" No Europcar in USA, their partner/agent is Advantage and when compared to National they fall down on many apsects. Having traveled through Miami several times using other rental companies Advantage hit you with a considerable number of add on extras such as the Extortionate cost of the Florida road toll rental plus a whole bunch of upselling that is mirrored only by Dollar. By your road toll pass from the first service area on the expressway and save hundreds. The vehicle had the front bumper/fender detached from a previous accident, there was no screenwash to clean the screen (common at Miami) and the tyre pressures of the vehicle were dangerously high and uneaven across all four wheels making driving in the wet horrible until I figured it out. This time in Miami I had an issue with the car I picked up (very strong smell of... body fluids on one of the seats), so I returned an hour later to swap the car - everyone was very helpful, offered me a free upgrade for this inconvenience and processed the whole swap in a matter of minutes.
