" As stated above I did not feel valued by either AutoEurope or Europcar. Neither did anything to resolve the issue leaving me to have to take a dirty, unroadworthy and illegal car over 2 hours late from the original booked time. Then have to clean mirror etc. to make it roadworthy and legal. "
" Went 20 minutes early and was told I had to wait as the car was still being cleaned. When I went at correct time (2.00pm) I was told the car was not ready. At 2.30pm told the car was ready but when we got to it it was very dirty, I have pictures and video to show this, the wing mirrors were that dirty they would be illegal to use. Had to go all the way back to complain to be told that it had been cleaned but they had no drier to dry it properly. I told them we could not use it as it was as the mirrors were not clean and could not be used. I called AutoEurope to complain, first time the phone was put down on me, the second time I was told to speak to Europcar as they were the rental company and yourselves were just the agents. I would also only be able to contact your complaints department on Friday 9.00 - 1.00pm, obviously customers are not cared for by yourselves. When I went to complain at Europcar I was told that they had done everything they could and it was not their fault they could not dry the car properly and I could contact who I rented the car from, as in yourselves. So neither company appeared interested in me loosing time on my holiday or having to accept a dirty car. They said they would get it cleaned again, we eventually got the car again around 4.30pm and it was still not cleaned properly, I had to clean the wing mirrors myself. We just took the car as we had already lost over 2 hours of our holiday. NOT impressed at all by either company. "

" When I picked up the car the tank was only one quarter full. I took a screenshot to prove the mileage and fullness of the tank shortly after leaving the car hire car park at Basel airport - as I had three children in the car I could not turn back and solve the issue immediatelly. I was required to return the car with a full tank. So I should be entitled to a refund the equivalent of three quarters of a tank. But since returning from holiday I have battled with AutoEurpope, Alamo and Enterprise to get what is owed to me and I am getting nowhere. No one is taking responsibility, I keep being told it's the branch's responsibilty, it took many emails and phone calls to even obtain an email address for the branch and that branch does not email back so I am stuck. " Chaos at the counter of Rentscape. No communication with the massive line of people waiting for a car, waited for 4 hours with no apology, no explanation. At one point one of the member of staff stood up on a chair and shouted at all the customers waiting for their rental cars. She actually shouted at us like it was our fault and we would "just have to wait" there was nothing she could do about it. It was taking up to 1 hour for each customer to get their car, and at one point the staff allowed a "VIP" to jump the queue leaving everybody furious. Why this person was "More important" than the rest of us I have no idea. The rental car was falling to pieces, needed a service and had some major technical issue. Absolute joke, never again. The value for money score is only due to the 4 hour queue - its not value for money when you are standing in the airport for 4 HOURS. "

" We were asked to pay 14 Euro per day{adding 98 Euros for the week} for a car equipped with snow tyres as that was the law but it would appear that is only the case in certain areas. If we had known this we would have looked for a cheaper option. We were only in that area for 6 hours[getting from and to the airport from our house} out of our week in France. The remainder of the time we were travelling in the Haute Marne area. The information on the radio and sat nav was not in English or French, it appeared to be in Korean or some Asian language this should have been reset after the previous renter. "

" 1. The car had more damage to it than was on the rental agreement so I had to take extra pictures and return to the counter to explain. The counter staff were very friendly and changed the descriptions based on my photos. But if I had not checked before leaving it might have been a problem on returning the car. 2. Although I said on the booking form that I was travelling to Switzerland (and Germany) the car did not have a Swiss vignette so I had to pay CHF 40 at the border. This should not happen because my rental was only 5 days and the vignette lasts the whole year! In my opinion, the rental company should provide a car with a vignette if they are told upfront that the customer is travelling to Switzerland or at least agree to refund the cost of the vignette as they have the benefit of it for the whole year. I think this is very unfair and misleading. 3. I paid for the extra Autoeurope full insurance cover - but the counter staff still try to sell you additional insurance from Europcar. This is ridiculous. If you pay for the full cover from Autoeurope that should be enough! "

" I arrived at the desk 40 mins ahead of schedule to be told rather bluntly that adjusting the booking was not possible unless I wanted to pay for one extra day. I suggested we make the drop off 45 mins earlier only to be told that was not possible either. A more experienced individual then stepped in to say, quite bluntly that they could move the pick up and drop off times by 30 mins. The same person then informed me that unless I paid extra for snow chains or snow tyres our reservation would be voided. I asked why and she proceeded to blame Auto Europe for not advising. I pointed out that Avis had emailed me with an oppoortunity to handle the paperwork ahead of collection and there was no mention of it there either. She then said that it's an Avis issue and was most insistenty we pay for snow tyres or chains. After much discussion she agree to honour the booking at no additional cost. However, the car we were given was poorly maintained and very little of external damage I photographed before driving the car was recorded on the contract. The car had been poorly maintained, it was high mileage and generated vibrations and rattles at various speeds. The clerk had made great attempts to say the car I was given was an upgrade. Had I had time and not just experienced poor service from the clerk I'd have retruned the vehicle. That they blamed AutoEurope and Avis was not a good start. This is clearly an Avis franchise that does not represent either brand positively. "

Next day, I received an e-mail from Europcar with invoice attached. This showed an item "Administration fees fines" of 35 euros; I checked my credit card, and this amount had been debited. This was very disconcerting !!! However, after 5 days and without explanation, this amount was deleted from my c/card account. I then noticed that - when I booked this car - I paid you GBP 94.82 But when I picked up the car, the contract showed a price of EUR 87.34. All very strange and confusing - and resulting in unnecessary worry which I have not noticed with other suppliers. "

But the car rental agencies always try these tricks (also with insurance) to squeeze extra money from you at the start of the rental. I find this really annoying especially from large companies like Avis, Hertz and sixt. I find europcar are usually the most straightforward. you should explain these hidden charges upfront. "
" I rented in Mulhouse but asked when I ordered the car for travel to also include Germany and Switzerland. When I got to the check in counter at Avis I was told there were no winter tyres (which is a requirement for Swiss motorways) so was then forced to hire snow chains as a precaution at extra cost. Secondly, there was no vignette included for Switzerland. These additional costs are annoying and not correct especially as I already made it clear about my travel intentions at the outset when booking. "

Are you in the business of leading your customers by the nose? Whatever is happening, there is no mention of it on your website or the voucher or the terms & conditions. " For some bizarre reason, I had to wait half an hour before I was given the car, because my voucher said 11:30hrs, and I was there at 11:00, and Auto Europe doesn't permit the car to be rented earlier than the time on the voucher. " Offer was not clear on the subject of winter tyres, Herts said it was Auto Europe's fault for not confirming the position. This is not optional equipment, but legally required tyres for the country of visit which I had specified! "
" Extremely disappointed - when booking was made I added countries to be visited which Herts confirmed, but they didn't mention winter tyres legally required for Austria. When arrived to pick up the booked vehicle was told that they only have one (!) car with those and I have to pay upgrade fee of over £140!!! Total rip off merchants! The tyres where pretty worn out anyway and we had little grip when it snowed! "

" Was expecting a Ford Fiesta, received a Renault Captur. Horrible piece of French engineering - could feel gearstick move when accelerating and decelerating - and car had numerous dents, scratches and scrapes (not all were marked on pickup slip, but I was careful to take timed photos before driving away). Pickup was confusing as one very nice lady appeared to be covering all the rental desks at Mulhouse. I thought I was renting through Thrifty but car was from Hertz! Maybe that's just the way it works? At drop off, there was a note on the Hertz desk saying the assistant would return in a short while. Waited a while with time ticking away with a plane to catch before someone advised there was a key drop to use. "

" Excellent service while checking out car at airport. Nice new Nissan Note with sat nav. Return was a bit of a nightmare as Mulhouse / Basel airport is on the border of France / Switzerland / Germany. The sat nav seemed confused as to where the airport was and we turned up at the Swiss end of the airport. The Swiss Enterprise desk was fairly unhelpful. Although the French Enterprise desk is at the other end of the building we got lost and took 30 minutes to drive round to the French end of the airport. Please advise the rental desks to give clear (written) instructions on departure as to how to return to the correct side of the airport! "
" Had to wait 1 hour and a half for a car of the size I ordered which was a Peugot 508 or similar. I was offered a corsa which for 4 adults with luggage was a joke. The staff at Enterprise were excellent and as helpful as they could be but I think the company needs to ensure that they have adequate supply of cars to meet their customers requirements. "
