" I requested a small car as I was travelling to and from the airport and nothing more. I booked a Twingo or similar. I am 81 years old and the car was to be sitting (as it did) in my large garage until I returned home to London. First when the Enterprise/Alamo clients arrived the queue was long and we all had to wait 35 minutes before someone turned up at the desk. The young man had no English and when I said the car keys were for a small car he said it was the massive Peugeot 5008 SUV or nothing!! I explained it was far too large and he shrugged his shoulders gave me the key and showed me very little else. I worked out all I needed to know and drove in daylight to my home and parked the car in my garage. It remained there until I returned it safely (by 4.30 pm) to Garon Airport. Again there was no one on the desk so I posted the keys into the retrieval box. An hour and a half later just before the flight was closed I noticed a girl finally sitting at the desk and asked if she would just look over the car as I knew there was no damage on these two journeys. She retrieved the key and noted the car still in perfect condition and I explained how useless the young man was in not checking the car which had not been cleaned nor obviously checked when he remanded the keys to me on my arrival. She said she knew who he was and then she checked the exterior and said she had found a very slight damage to the drivers side on the very base on the car's skirting. I said it must have been there when I picked it up and she said it was just a formality and I need to sign for this minimum damage that had been identified. I said quite definitely it was not me and she agreed but it would help to sign. As my flight was now closing I signed) Just today I have received a de-recouvrement des dommages, sent to me noting an additional extraction from my Credit Card which I do not accept and I will place a stop on this. I am also telling Enterprise where my grandson is employed of this appalling service. To summarise Alamo were never at their desk. " Vehicle did not have any screenwash in it which we found out at a very 'inconvenient' time and could have proved hazardous for us. We filled it up ourselves! Also on pickup we were told to return vehicle full and clean. We were not told what 'clean' was and on drop off no rubbish, dirty fingermarks etc were in the car but there was bits of grass which had stuck to our shoes. We were told to vacuum it which there was no time to do so were charged 70 euros!!! We would like to know what 'standard cleaning' is as stated in Hertz rental booklet. " On pick-up they told me the car was not insured for accidental damage and that each separate bit of damage would cost me €1100., I was persuaded to take out extra cover at a cost of €221. I later discovered that I was already covered by Auto Europe. On return, when I queried this they said that if there had been damage I would have had to pay Enterprise and then claim from Auto Europe who usually refused to pay out. I had chosen Auto Europe as I had seen it highly recommended and did not expect to have this hassle or extra charges. "

" The only issues were with car itself. It had not been looked at from earlier rental. there was no water in bottle for windscreen at all ...completely dry so I filled it. The oil level was only 25/30% ....so I was always a bit worried if there was enough. We had some at our house but it was the wrong grade and I was reluctant to add it. Luckily we did not have much use of the car so our mileage was low. Then with one day to go the tyre indicator told us pressure needed looking at which I know is not much of an issue but al round I think the car had been neglected a bit. "

" When we collected the car at Nîmes airport we were told to bring the car back with a full tank of petrol which we were happy to do as the desk staff told us there was a petrol station by the airport. However, when we arrived back at the airport via the A8 we could not find a petrol station. We relayed this to the desk at the airport only to be told that the nearest petrol station is actually 4 kilometres away. I was told I could go back to the car to find the petrol station but my wife and children were in the check-in queue and I didn't want to risk getting lost trying to find the petrol station. I would recommend using Hertz to my friends but not at Nîmes "

Citeh inspect the car with you but this was pointless as nothing could be seen in the dark so asked to sign an inspection sheet as okay and phone the next day if any marks on car! Car provided was different to the one I selected but larger. Not an issue but why can't rental companies manage their business to give you what your ordered? Also the car had 48,000 kms on the clock - not a lot but more than usual for a hire car, but again, expected as it's the cheaper brand for this organisation. Overall, experience was fine but Citeh would benefit from improved check-in experience. "

( Citroens are very different driving consoles to Fords or VW's ). Also, a full comprehensive handbook (albeit only in French but we were in France) was provided and was necessary .
