" We live in a digital world. I have a valid credit card via my official Barclaycard app, and had my driving licence and passport with me so there was no doubt I was who I said I was. Why you needed to see the actual piece of plastic when all the details are on the app (including the front and back of the card EXACTLY as if in person) I have no idea. I was unable to get a refund, and staff on the desk were totally dismissive. So nearly £300 thrown away. " Firstly, my part to blame, I did not realise that through Auto Europe, I was booking with another company (Surprice) Regardless, when we arrived the queue for the place was out of the door. We waited two hours to get to the front of the line. In that time I witnessed staff shouting at customers, eating at the desk, sitting on their phones at the desk and generally being rude and argumentative. In previous experiences with other companies, the member of staff would take me to the car and do a walkaround of the vehicle. Not in this case. I was handed the keys and told to simply find the car in the car park. When I found the car, it was in an absolutely disgusting state. Awful stains over all seats, grime on steering wheel and the outside of the car was in bad shape. Based on my experiences and seeing so many unhappy customers there when I was at pick up AND drop off, I cannot understand why you would carry such a company. I'm sure this is not your first complaint about this company. "

" It has been a terribly experience. I have been using autoeurope for years, and I am not planning to use autoeurope again. In short, I have not got the car from sicily by car (which I had paid already to autoeurope for in advance) and I had to pay for another car from a different car rental late at night, whilst managing 2 young kids I have repeatedly asked for a refund from Autoeurope, but my contact with Autoeurope call centre was really frustrating and I was spoken with an aggressive tone by your contact centre staff. I have subsequently wrote back to you to reclaim the money but I have not received any response since. I will proceed with different channels to reclaim the money, given that I have paid in full for a service which I have not received at all. "

Told at noleggiare counter that the excess waiver I had bought through auto Europe was no good as a police report is required for a refund and the police will not come for anything other than a 2 car collision. Didn't make it to Sardinia as someone threatened to jump from the m5 motorway bridge and the police closed the motorway for 6 hours. I rang auto Europe when i realised I wasn't going to make my flight. Only to be told i have to cancel it at least 2 days before. How is that possible if i only booked that very morning and HOW could i possibly know the police would close the motor way. Your call operator just hung the phone up on me. Thanks. Nothing better for the consumer than a healthy business competition, right? :) On this occasion their offer for a car rental in Olbia Airport was the best value for money IMO (end of June 2024 and just 3 days before our arrival to Sardinia). The actual rental with Sicily-by-car proved to be the right choice. Flawless! "
" I know car rentals can be and often are 'tricky' but based on this experience alone with Sicily-by-car at Olbia airport (end of June 2024) I can honestly say it was nothing short of excellent. Top marks to the members of staff I was served by - Giovanni at the desk on our arrival and Marta at drop-off inspection - polite, respectful and efficient. Got a brand new MG ZS with just 2.5K km on the clock - an absolute pleasure to drive! (yes, the engine could do with a bit more oomph in the mountains but nothing it couldn't handle on lower gears). We did 1500+ km exploring the Northern half of the island and this compact SUV performed throughout very nicely indeed. What is worth mentioning is that SBC blocks just EUR 200.00 on your credit card, which is surprisingly low compared to the other car rentals in Olbia that I had researched. Not sure if that's always the case but I booked via autoeurope.co.uk and 200 euros card block it was - no hidden extras, no hard selling of the full insurance (I have my own annual excess insurance). Genuinely - great, flawless experience. Thank you guys! We will use your services next time - Arrivederci :) "

I had declined the 14€ cleaning option as I intended to hand wash the vehicle the evening prior to dropping off, which I did, returning the vehicle in infinitely better condition than when it was given to me. It is fairly obvious that the staff at Olbia are looking for the slightest issue in order to make additional charges as there were three 1-2cm white marks on the passenger side carpet that obviously warrant a 40€ fee. In all honesty, I cannot categorically say that this didn't happen during the rental period but it was so insignificant that I wouldn't have noticed it when picking up and considering the general state of the car at that time, would not be surprised at all if they were there originally. With it getting dark and with a 100 km journey to make I had no option to allow the rental agent to reinput my reservation at a cost of 183 euros which he defended as an "upgrade". Amateur, inefficient, sloppy and dishonest. Will never use again. I wasn't aware of the one hour late cut off for a car already prepaid. Is this standard practice? " I telephoned Auto Europe from holiday, held for ages to let them know I did not get a car. Was told to email them to get refund. Did so twice then called. They said did not receive emails. They sent me a secure link then responded. Was told I would get refund in 10 days. Did not get refund. Called several times and was told different stories (would take 8 days, 10 days, 11 days then 15 working days after Drivalia contacted them. Received money almost 1 month after not receiving vehicle. Booked on credit card and it does not take that long to refund a payment. Would never boom with them again, worst customer service and did not care. "

My car was aprox. 30% more expensive but the capacity of the vehicle in respect of storage space and room was identical. On pick up I was informed that since I have a Canadian diving licence I would need to pay an additional 287 Euro for full insurance. I had already purchased full insurance from Auto Europe but apparently this was not their concern. The additional cost was approx 60% of my original hire cost. Absolute disgrace and totally ruined the start of this family holiday. "

Car ordered was supposed to be an Opel Corsa but wasnt available. Ended up with a Lancia Ypsilon whuch was ok but a bit underpowered on hills. I thought that I was renting from Avis, with it's reputation for high standards of customer service, so was surprised to discover that not only it was not Avis but the company appears to be in the business of scamming customers. " Having arrived at the car rental building, the queue for the Avis Desk was a bit of a lottery in that it was disorganised, no clear lineal separation between the Avis Desk and the adjacent Budget desk with the result that some people who were queuing in the "Budget" queue were in actual fact queuing for the Avis desk and were seen to before others who had been waiting in line longer. Apparently we should have gone round the car noting every mark and reported this back to the office before we collected it. This was not sufficiently explained, maybe because it was very busy. Luckily we had paid for insurance so had no excess to pay. He also noted that the petrol tank was not full, even though it had not been when we collected. He gave us the option of taking it back to a petrol station or paying a charge. After some minutes argueing the manager came to the desk and eventually agreed to check the previous hire docs - which showed the car had been returned with three quarters of a tank. Only then he accepted that we were telling the truth. Nice car, not a bad price but not a great experience when dropping off! "

The car itself was lovely to drive (Fiat 500) and served us well for our week visit. On return to airport drop off building with tank full, as required, staff checked car over, as I would expect, no damage to car. I was given a piece of paper to sign and wished a pleasant journey home. On arrival home I noted that another £163.50 had been taken from my account with no explanation what on earth this was for?!? So all in all I paid £315.38 when I was under the impression that booking upfront with the Excess Cover of £60.68 was all I would be paying - to say I am disappointed is an understatement and I will never book or recommend your company. " Customer service was very pleasant and friendly but the €149 zero excess charge was ridiculously high (although in the end it was perhaps money well spent as there was a mysterious scratch at vehicle return and being Italy (relatively high risk of damage when parked) I'd decided, unusually for me, not to go with your refundable excess but to get it locally. But I get the impression Interrent offer low headline prices but offer very expensive extras (I paid €150 for a convertible on the spot too, supposedly a 'special offer'). "

" Overall the experience with the car had a very negative impact on our holiday. I couldn't afford to pay the extra €220 to lower the excess to what I understood I had paid for and the car was smaller than expected. We drove around in fear of somebody crashing into us (which with what we saw with the crazy local Italian driving was a clear and present danger)! If I had known I wouldn't have paid for any extra with autoeurope as I don't feel what I did pay had any bearing with Maggiore. I haven't marked the score down to not at all likely as I don't know where the fault lies, either Autoexpress were unrealistic of what I paid for or Maggiore were trying to make more money out of me trading on my fear of someone crashing into me! "
" There seemed to be a discrepancy between what Auto Europe said was the excess and what Maggiore said they would charge for an accident. One had £700 the other €2000. After telling me it was likely an Italian driver would crash into us rather than someone stealing the car they said I needed to pay an extra €20 a day to reduce the excess to the same level as I had been quoted by AutoEurope. They also said the Audi A3 or equivalent that I had been told I was getting was a band below and was not going to happen. Thankfully we just managed to get our bags in the boot of the Fiat500 they gave us. However this was definitely a lower class than I paid for! "

" I was slightly disappointed that having been given a vehicle condition report form on checking in indicating that there was no damage to the car to discover on inspecting it ourselves that there was a very large series of scratches covering the passenger side rear door and rear panel. You could not fail to have noticed them. On highlighting the actual condition to one of your staff they immediately recognised the error and annotated the vehicle condition report. No alternative vehicle was offered. On returning the vehicle at 7.00am in the morning it was disappointing to find no staff on hand and only a key drop box. "

But firstly it is a ridiculous sum of money, as much as the car hire, and secondly your check in staff were very rude in how they explained it and effectively told me I was stupid if I hadn't read the T&C's. They are obviously perfect in any respect and will never make a mistake. I would recommend a bit of tact, sympathy in such a situation - perhaps?! Woeking in a customer facing industry I can assure you this approach is a sure way to bankruptcy. I have never owned a credit card, that is my decision and as a result of this and your disrepectful customer service won't use your service, won't recommend it and am adding my feedback to the FSB and CBI over here and all business fourms I am a member of. " The wait in the Budget queue at Olbia airport was extremely long. Also the counter-staff stated that the car must be returned to us with a full tank of gas (else 100 euro fine), but we noiced after a day or so that it had been supplied to us with only half a tank of gas. It was only after our return with the requisite full tank that this was pointed out to us as an exception noted on the car documentation. The car itself, a Nissan Juke, was in excellent condition and was efficiently checked over on our return. But we still ended up circa 30 euros out of pocket because of a counter staff error. "

" I have used Enterprise extensively in the UK and have never had a bad experience. But their local partner in Olbia - Locoauto is doing Enterprise more harm than good. The car categories are deceptive. I was shown a Volvo V40 while booking and was being given a Golf. Anyone who has driven these cars, knows well that they certainly do not belong in the same category. I had no choice but to pay additional money for upgrade. "

" How long have you got. Very very hard sell excess insurance at Euro 108. Had rung to notify that my husband had lost his licence but had a copy on his phone and was told this was not a problem. It was. To make me the driver I had to pay the excess insurance even though I already had my own. Instead of blocking my card with Euro 150 they debited it and I am waiting for a refund. I am aa Tour Operator and booked 6 cars through you for my Travel Agents. They were all pressurised to take excess. Those that didn't- Mia Newton for example were charged for virtually non existant scratches. In her case you couldn't even see the scratch but apparently he could feel it!. She has asked for photographic evidence for her excess company and nothing has appeared. They are running a scam and you should not recommend this company. They charged her Euro 230 for a scratch you cant even see!!!! "

I think thus was a complete and utter con. Unfortunately there was nothing else we could do to get them to give us the arranged car. We tried to call auto Europe to amend quote but you couldn't get through to Milan office to change. Just a complete headache at the start of our holiday. " The whole booking process is simple, but the description of the vehicles in each band is very basic and it feels pot luck as to what you will get when you pick up the car. It would really help to get a definitive list of actual vehicles on offer as opposed to just a description as "standard". "
" Vehicle inspection is very thorough and i like the emails that confirm the inspection. Extra insurance for the excesses is expensive and you have to watch out for the penalties for damage to tyres, wheels, glass and roof. My experience was good overall. "

" Booked and paid for zero excess package which was around £100 more than the basic hire for a 7 day trip, thinking that this would exempt me from any potential excesses as this was the most expensive package available. It also did not say anything about any part of the car would not be covered by zero excess. However when picked up car was informed that this did not cover me for glass, tyres or undercarrage and this would be another 130 for zero excess for which I refused to pay as this would have taken the car hire of a basic Fiat to nearly £500 for a week! It needs to be made much clearer what is or isn't actually included in these excess packages as to me this is false selling. "
" Enterprise & Locauto are the same company in Oblia so don't pay more for Enterprise thinking its safer to go for an International firm. The service was okay however spoke poor English and were slow.This slowness was generally as everyone who went up was told about expensive excess charges and to cover themselves could pay for a zero access package, but from what I heard they were being quoted 300 to 400 for. Otherwise they took a swipe of your credit card to cover potential damage of around 1800. If you didn't have sufficient credit you were forced into taking the zero excess package. I had pad for zero excess at home but they still tried to charge me for a package to cover tyres, glass & undercarrage which I refused. Beware! "

" Long lines at the desk on arrival. No one available to physically check-out the car and no damage report was provided. I inspected the car and found no obvious damage so accepted it. On return there was a physical check-in and I was shown some slight damage to an external door lock. I had no way of knowing whether this had occurred before or during my period of hire so disputed the claim that it was my responsibility. I also refused to agree for my credit card to be debited by an unspecified amount to repair the damage or to sign a retrospective clean condition report for the pickup. This is at the very least dubious business practice. On return I discovered that a door lock scam is common in some places and can't help wondering about this. "

I find it best to talk to a real person after looking at things online to make sure that we know what it is all about. The phone people are always very helpful, patient and well-trained. They often make useful suggestions. "

The only negative comment is that there wasn't any fluid in the window washer which we would expect - especially in a new car.
