" I was arriving at Southampton from a cruise ship and did not know what time I was going to arrive at the Avis rental desk.- I scheduled a pick-up at noon, which is my standard practice with other car rental services with the intent of picking the car up sooner if I arrived sooner. I arrived at 9am and the car was ready for me but I was unable to take the car until noon because of the rigid "systems" in place at Auto Europe. Avis was willing to give me the car sooner, but Auto Europe was unable/willing to release the car sooner. In addition, Auto Europe was unable to change my drop off location towards the end of my rental, again due to rigid "Systems". Next time, I will use another 3rd party or reserve directly with Avis. "

" As I have explained earlier,we arrived early and was told we could not collect the car until the arranged time. When I found the phone number for Auto Europe,t he lady I spoke to was much friendlier but again was told there was nothing she could do and I would have to wait for an hour and a half to collect the car. I was very disappointed and on your term and conditions, it says nothing about being early. During these current times, flights are always being changed and I feel a little flexibility is needed. I would have thought the car would have been waiting for us, so I do not understand why we could not collect it early. The car when we did get it was excellent and the return went very smoothly. When I checked the terms and conditions of pick up, it talked about a late arrival but not an early one, so I did not contact Budget to explain we would be 1 and a half hours early. " I booked an economy class car such as a Volkswagen Polo but I was forced to accept a large SUV, a MG ZS even though there were smaller cars in the lot. I was unable to unscrew the petrol cap and so was unable to fill up on return. I was then charged £153 for petrol when I had only driven 221 miles which proved that the petrol tank was NOT full as I had been advised. I pointed out these problems to the agent on return and said that I was willing to pay a fair price for the petrol used which I calculated was 25 litres max which should have cost no more than £40. However it appears that my words fell on deaf ears and were completely ignored. "

" Booked a child's car seat for our 21 month old and was told no Group One seats were available, we had to put her in an unsuitable and too big and therefore dangerous seat, staff offered no help other than take it or leave it. The car was great, very clean but not the car we booked, I know supply changes but with the replacement car there was insufficient boot space for luggage and prams, hence the attraction of a known to be suitable model. We had to place luggage and the parcel shelf in the rear with both children which was not ideal. Drop off was at Exeter Airport, a different airport than pickup. There were no clear signs or indicators as to where to dropoff the car or keys, in the rain, dark, at 6am with two toddlers this was not a great experience. I like Europcar but these experiences were not great, particularly the car seat which was outright dangerous. "

However then had to spend a whole morning of our holiday getting it fixed, and had issues with a couple of Hertz staff saying the nail had been fixed and this was a new one which it clearly wasn't. A warning to persons using Easirent. Prices are extremely good but they do not allow the slightest scratch/ mark on the vehicle unlike other companies who have an approx 75mm circular template. Also, I had to pay £1500 deposit, as I had 3rd party excess and didn't take theirs. They also charge £95 for fuel ( refunded 2 days after hire) as I chose Full to Full. The car was in good condition and office manager was very polite and explained everything. He was also very helpful in setting up the bluetooth for my phone to the car "

" Awful. I phoned to say I would be an hour later for pick up. They did not answer the phone so I had to go through the autoeurope number in order to give them the message. I arrived to order the pick up and said I was going straight to the pick up point. They didn't bother to say they would take 25 minutes to get there. When I rang after 20 minutes waiting they did not reply. Eventually they turned up and when I said it would have been better to have said how long they would take they said it was me who was an hour late, despite me informing them of this 4 hours earlier. Unpleasant. When we arrived at the hire office which was a 15 minute drive from the airport there was only 1 person serving, so I had to wait a further 20 minutes while the customer before me was served. They insisted as well as a passport and driving licence (which shows an address) on having a utility bill with current address, otherwise they would not let anyone leave with a car. This requirement was not highlighted in any of the correspondence from you, including the reminder sent from autoeurope 2 days prior to pickup, I found it deep on page 3 of the voucher. Having been hiring cars regularly for 12 years I have never had this requirement imposed before. The customer ahead of me eventually found a proof of address on her phone, prolonging the wait further. Thet also dud a very hard sell on her for extra insurance. When it got to my turn, I was unserstandably upset. Having been travelling since 7 in the morning and more than an hour since arriving at the pickup point it appeared I was not going to be given a car. When I expressed my upset they accused me of being abusive and asked me to leave. I was not abusive I was exasperated and upset, and they were unhelpful in tge extreme. I got the impression, this was a regular action on their part. Of the four people who came to pick up cars while I was there only one left with a car. All for the same reason. Interesting. I was given a lift back to Southampton airport, back 1 3/4 hours after I arrived. I was able, luckily to get a train to my destination, Weymouth, but due to a reduced service did not arrive until 1 in the morning. "

" Awful experience. Arrived at 21:00, attended at 22:15 due to their IT system (Trax) being down. Booking had to be done by hand and in conjunction with Bristol office as their system was working. Easirent representative was completely stressed out and not in a state to attend customers. Car checked in poorly lit warehouse making it extremely difficult to identify dents or other imperfections (especially on the lower side of the car) Car was driven impeccably with absolutely no incidents over the next 2 days. When brought back I was told that the front nearside alloy was scratched and that it would be noted on damage report. Easirent representative didn't want to know about all the problem when the car was picked up. Charged 387€ (325£) for damage I did not cause. Disgusting treatment, these people are scammers and Auto Europe should disassociate themselves from them. No wonder they only have a one star rating which I was stupid enough to ignore when I made the booking. "

However, I had to pay extra to Alamo for the same level of insurance cover that I initially had and paid for with Easirent. "

" I have to give Auto Europe this rating, as you sub contracted the rental to Easirent, and listed above, the whole Easirent experience was very unpleasant. A plus point is the opportunity to purchase the indemnity insurance from Auto Europe through "Auto Refunds". They were very good and professional. "
" At the pickup :- i) It took more than 3 hours for Easirent to collect us from the agreed pick up point ii) The car was dirty and had not been properly valeted iii) The car was considerably larger than the one we had ordered resulting in increased fuel charges iv) The car was not fully fuelled At the dropoff: i) Easirent claimed that one of the alloy wheels was damaged when the vehicle was returned. I could not even see the alleged damage, however Easirent was insistent that there was some scuffing on the very rim of the wheel. ii) Easirent staff were extremely rude and we felt that they were actively gloating that they thought that they could make a claim for the alleged damage. iii) Easirent charged GBP250 **for a new wheel** and GBP75 for an "admin fee". It is my opinion that they will pocket the money and hope that they can charge the next renter for exactly the same damage. I think that it is extremely unlikely that they will replace the wheel. The alleged scuff mark certainly would not have any effect on the car's safety or operation. iv) Drop off faciltities were dirty and toilets stinking and out of order. Easirent staff smoking in the garage immediately next to signs indicating that smoking was forbidden in that area, An extremely unpleasant experience. "

In the reminder email with 'important information' this was again omitted, no mention whatsoever. To do It at the counter you need to know your NI number. I havent known this off by heaet for about 20 years and I doubt mary people do. Also I dont know my credit card pin number because I never use It to withdraw cash from a cash machine. Responsibly, I only use It for one off big purchases where you only ever need the big number on the front. The women at the counter made It very diffifcult to get round this and couldn't really be bothered. "

" The experience was ok but not great. We hired a car seat and I thought there may have been someone there to fit it . We had to go to a Porto cabin which was locked then go back again . We were given a car seat and that was it. Just thought that if we didn't know how to fit it safely then could have been a problem. One other thing that doesn't sit well is that I had to pay a £750 deposit when I got there as I didn't have a clear credit card. . If I didn't have the money then I couldn't have got the car. I found it a lot of money for a £60 hire. Then I was told that I will not receive my money back for up to 2 weeks. Also don't think that is a very good service. If I drop the car back and all is ok I would expect to have the money back in my account the following working day. A long time to have £750 out my account for a £60 hire When I booked the car I ask for a car seat. There was no mention of cost. When signing the paperwork it showed a cost which was all most the same price as the car hire. So to hire a say £15k car costs about £60 and to hire a say £300 car seat costs about £50. Just doesn't add up. This would put me off using europa again . Sorry but these are my comments "

" I wrote to the Manager at Southampton re the rental but have yet to receive a reply. I rented a vechicle on line and upgraded to Hyundai 130 or similar. I travelled to the airport by train and as instructed rang for the shuttle bus., I called at least 10 times before I got a reply. When the shuttle bus arrived the driver told me he wasn't sure they had a car for me. At the office I was told I need 2 documents that showed my home address. I was somewhat frustrated that I had not been told this earlier and that I had to make arrangements to have these documents brought to me. I would comment that I have rented vehicle all over the world but have never before needed proof of my home address. Given what I had been told earlier I checked that there was definatley a vehicle for me . I was told yes, there was a Renault Capture. You can imagin e my surprise when whilst I waited for the documents to arrive, I saw the Renault Capture drive away. At the Office I was told that there was no longer a vehicle of the size I'd order and the only vehicle they had was a smaller Toyota Aygo. This was very inconveient as I had the make 2 fairly lengthy trips, but given the fact that I needed a car for Monday morning, I felt I had no option but to accept, I was told I would receive a partial refund, but they were not able to tell me how much as they said it would be dealt with at head office, at present I've heard no more. I was told the insurance excess was £1.250, but could be offset by paying an additional premium of £196, this equated to £28 per day, more than I was paying for the hire and equivelent £10,192 per year, probably more than the car was worth. I decided not to take the additional cover as I thought it excessive. I consider myself a relatively safe driver, having driven more than 1 million miles in my life and not having made any kind of insurance claim for about 20years. I went out to collect the vehicle, it had not been washed or cleaned out on the inside, there were dead insects stuck to the car and mud splashes on the vehicle, I looked the car over fairly quickly and told the rep I though there was a road chip on the vehicle, he said he thought it was dirt; given the time I'd already spent, I didn't want to waste any more time and drove off. I was somewhat inconvenienced by having a smaller vehicle with much less comfort than I'm used to or expected. When I returned the vehicle it was examined with a fine tooth comb and I was told there was a mark on the paintwork, this was probably the road chip I had mentioned at the point of hire. I accept there was a tiny mark on the car approx 2mm long and 1.5mm wide. but I do not accept this occurred whilst the vehicle was in my possesion, I do not recall any kind of incident and was careful where I parked the car. I do not accept responsibility and expect my £1,250 to be returned in full. I understand the reason of excess on insurance policies, that in the event of damage by collision or other the firs t £1,250 would need to be met by the insured person, or in the event the damage is less, the policy holder would have full responsibility for the repair. In this case the damage is minute and the cost of repair would be very minimal, If It is decided that I am responsible for this "damage" I would only expect to pay for the actual repair and would expect to see the bill. Finally before I left I asked about the refund for being allocated a smaller car than I ordered, but no one was able to advise me and I was told to E mail the manager at Southampton Airport Depot, which I have done. I've no responce to my enquiry on the refund or the return of the £1,250 paid "

" I had an awful experience with Auto Europe and will certainly not be using them again or recommending them to a friend. Why was important information such as the fact that I needed to take another form of photo ID with me in addition to my driving licence, as well as a recent utility bill, buried in the terms & conditions of the booking instead of being more clearly and conspicuously stated on my voucher ticket? As a result of this, I was unable to pick up my car and had to cancel the reservation and incur a £25 admin charge. I have never been required to produce any other documentation before when picking up a hire car, other than my driving licence. "
