    A Summer of Spanish Celebrations

I can think about it all I want, my days of travelling are unfortunately limited. I’ll be writing a few posts on this page about places I’d love to visit and I may even have a travel log for my next trip – one of those I mentioned here previously. But right now, it’s just wishful thinking. Or shall I say… writing?

Travelling for a living, that does sound like something I wouldn’t mind doing. At all. Sure, one does like feeling the comfort of having a home, somewhere to come back to. But that’s just the thing: something to come back to. Which means that you had left. And that part means adventure. Like when you hire a car in Spain.

Well, it’s not an adventure because it’s dangerous or adventurous in itself. The part of actually driving the car is the calmest, most comfortable bit. The roads are civilised and of good quality, but the adventure really starts when you delve deep into the fiery rhythm, warm hospitality and overall niceness of the Spanish people.

First suggestion, then? Aiming for June, which is a fantastic time of the year to get a car hire in Madrid – if you book early! – you have the magnificent street parties of the San Antonio de la Florida, which include the celebration of the Corpus Christi on the 10th June. So, from the 9th and up until the 13th, when there are absolutely delightful parties near the saint’s hermitage, it’s Spanish style party time!

The other suggestion points to the 23rd of June. I know, ten days until the next party? You’ll need those days to recover from the first one, believe me. And that will give you the chance to tour Spain all the way up to the north.

Something like driving your car hire to Barcelona and get the chance to discover one of the city’s most famous Summer celebrations: the Nit of Sant Joan (Night of St. John), a splendid feast dedicated to St. John, the Baptist. There are bonfires, with people jumping through the fire, fireworks, food and wine on the city’s streets so this is a great chance to get in touch with the warm, outgoing Catalonian people in some of its most electric and crazy parties!

So, if you’re heading to Spain in June, don’t miss out on these! And use those ten days in between to rest a little if you can get yourself to do it!
