Deciding to invite a coworker for a quick getaway in Ireland is all very well – when you have the slightest idea of who you’re bringing along for that ride. Richard seemed eager enough to show me around his homeland and so we booked a comfortably-sized hire car in Ireland and got to it!
While in the Emerald Isle, castles were visited as much as time would allow, but among many other sights, it was Ireland’s beaches that drew me in; it is as if the surrounding elements have joined their natural forces for an incredible spectacle!
Driving away in our car hire from Dublin, we stopped by Dog’s Bay near the town of Galway. The name alone made me miss my own four-legged, still puppy-at-heart, Ginger and I pictured her there as well, enjoying the view and running along those shell-made sands.
It can be said as true that when one thinks of holiday by the beach, there may be other destinations more inviting than Ireland. And although you probably won’t have many chances of lazying under a blazing sun, these beaches are still a place not to be missed. Plus, no overwhelming crowds – which, for me, is the best part of the bargain!
Heading further north in our hire car to Donegal, we truly appreciated the comfort of the vehicle, since so many hours on the road can take a toll on one’s back.
Besides that, I don’t get the usual restlessness that comes with being inside a car for long periods of time; no shame in admitting it: I honestly enjoy being driven rather than driving, preferring instead to be put in charge of changing the radio station as the moods swing by.
Seven of the whole eleven beaches along Donegal county’s coast are Blue Flag beaches, ideal for surfing those big waves or to have a whole stretch of sand almost to yourself! Maybe when Summer gets fully settled, I’ll take to the Irish beachy weather… It felt like a whole new turn on the idea of paradise.
