'Calling all of those countries that have a bright yellow ball shinning in the sky!' It is something that the UK lacks at this time of year; the sunshine so I am off to pastures new for a few sunny weeks. My choice of destination is the Island of Cyprus.
Cyprus is located in the Mediterranean Sea and blessed with a year round fantastic climate. In the summer season the temperatures can reach up to 35° C, which is way too hot for me, but in the winter months you can enjoy a warm 20-22°C during the day! The island has a number of great tourist resorts to choose from. You can arrange to pick up a car hire in Larnaca Airport, straight from your flight and drive to your accommodation.
Larnaca is the islands oldest city and has some great spots that you must visit. You will find the ruins of the Ancient Kitium here. The remains of five temples are now all that is left from this ancient city and they are just waiting to be explored. Down on the seafront you will find the Larnaca Fort, which has a great museum inside and whilst you are by the water why not enjoy a stroll around the port.
Whilst you have a Cyprus car hire you may as well make the most of it and venture to other parts of the island. Head inland to find Cedar Valley, now it may be bets to check with the locals as to the best way of getting here as it is a little off the beaten track, but very much worth the journey. The valley is home to the indigenous Cyprus cedar tree and if you are lucky you may also spot the Moufflon, which is a wild sheep native only to Cyprus!
If you are looking for that perfect beach to simply soak up the sun then the best place to visit is the west coast of the island. A little place called Lara Bay as some of Cyprus's most secluded stunning beaches, but sshhhh, don't tell everyone!
