" I ordered a Kia Sportage and received a sub standard Toyota Cross. This was smaller than the Kia. I was happy to use it as the car park was a 15 minute walk outside in the sun. With 2 young children and my wife, I wasn't going to walk back in the blistering sun when I could fit my suitcases in. I am 6 ft tall and struggled to fit in the vehicle. There were several scratches on the vehicle but the inside was clean. I want a partial refund as I did not get a like for like car which I expected. I previously owned a Kia and the driving experience was not the same and I have seen no justification in any of the feedback as to why a Kia sportage is like for like with a Toyota Yaris Cross. "

" Extremely Disappointing Car Hire Experience – Booking at 11:00 AM I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the appalling service I received during my recent car hire experience with your company. Our original booking was for 11:00 AM, yet upon arrival, we were informed that the vehicle we had reserved was not available. After being made to wait for over an hour and a half, we were then told the car still wouldn't be ready until 1:00 PM. This level of disorganisation and complete disregard for your customers' time is entirely unacceptable. To make matters worse, when a vehicle was finally provided, it was not fit for purpose. It was far too small to accommodate four people and our luggage, despite our original booking clearly specifying our requirements. Additionally, the car was dirty and in poor condition, which added insult to injury. Frankly, it was an inadequate and embarrassing substitution. To say I was annoyed would be an understatement. This experience caused unnecessary stress and disruption to our plans, and I am thoroughly disappointed by the lack of professionalism and preparation shown by your team. I expect a full explanation as to why this occurred, and what steps you intend to take to prevent such a poor experience for future customers. This meant when we arrived we had to upgrade to a car with winter tyres and a larger car, although the car provided was a similar size to the Discovery we throught we were hiring. " When we booked the car with autoeurope, we booked a Fiat 500 , but at the collection it wasn't available at all . We had another car similar but not the fiat 500 they promised. Also we paid £80.21 for a full cover insurance, but at the desk of Viaggiare they told us that if anything was going to be wrong with the car we had to pay them first and then claim the money back from you. That's is really confusing and not what I was expecting, and it was also confermed over the phone from your staff. Therefore we paid additional €203 to insure the car totally for our piece of mind. So I'm requesting a refund if my £80 paid in advance , as we had to pay extra on the site in Venice. We were not happy at all with Autoeurope arrangements I'm afraid . "

You assured me they were, however when I got to the desk, he tried to charge me extra for chains. I protested and after he rang you and was on the phone for 15 minutes he relented and didn't charge....but implied that was extraordinary as chains are always extras. "

The biggest problem was having to pay 25€ a day for 8 days for my son to drive the car after I broke my leg. Car vibrating when driving and cant' see the mirror as it's vibrating, screen wipers front and back not cleaning properly as needs changing. A total disaster of a company and the car they give out are not checked. Very expensive and will not book with them ever again. I want a refund and wish to take matters further. " The pick up, once we found the place, was very quick and easy. Everything is digitised. But first, when we booked, we were under the impression from the website that the car was 'in the terminal'. It's in fact about 20 minutes away. You have to call the company and they will come pick you up from the airport. We were staying overnight in Venice so decided to get a taxi who tried to charge us €50. An argument ensued and we got him down to €40 but don't pick this company if you want a car closer to the airport. It would have been cheaper to pay extra for a company in the airport. The drop off was much easier as we had pinned the address (it's a remote industrial estate) in the phone map, and then the company drove us back to the airport in their shuttle. "

There was no Keddy desk at Venice airport, my voucher was with auto europe, again no desk for them either, I then had to join one of the many queues to find out which desk I should use, which turned out to be the "Europe " desk, fortunately a fellow traveller told me I had to register my arrival on a computer tablet. I then queued for just over 1 hour before I was serviced, at this point I thought finally progress, only to be frustrated again, I had booked and paid for a Fiat 500l , because I am over 6 foot tall, and need a car with a high roofline, only to be offered an Opel Corsa which was not really suitable, on pushing the point, I was told there was a 500l available, but not for another 45 minutes, after we had been waiting already for over an hour, and having to meet relatives, we had no option but to take the Corsa. I have hired cars in Italy for many years, but this rates as our worst experience "

The person talked about an "insurance" and corresponding to three amounts = 59.78€ + 48.80€+42.70€. That was the only explanation we've got with no invoice or receipt. "

I truly don't think that it was me to damage the car but there is no much that I can do to push back this, because the contract clearly states that in case of drop off outside working hours they have 3 days of time to notify any damage. They also took the car back before we were actually ready and did not point out that we would be charged an excessive cleaning fee if we did not clean it out. They asked me to sign on a mobile phone screen that was completely blank except for the word FIRMA at the top. They did not explain that I was signing for the above items which we were only informed about when we reached the office some 15 mins walk away. They could not demonstrate that the damage to the wheel rim was caused during our hire period, It could have been there before we accepted the vehicle or caused after we handed it back. It could even have been a different car for all we know. This was a deliberate scam relying on a well practiced routine in my opinion. I am appalled that Viaggiare can be this dishonest. I shall never use them or Auto Europe again, you are employing fraudsters. "

Luckily I didn't have to use it, but outsourcing the third-party insurance is not ideal as the customer needs to interact with yet another system if a claim is to be submitted. Ideally, if anything goes wrong, the rental company speaks directly with Auto-Europe and everything is handled by AE. This is what Full piece of mind service for customer would be. "

" Awful! First time ever I rented from Italycarrent as they recently have very competitive rates on this platform (I have been using AutoEurope for years and mainly at Venice Airport). I quickly realised why the rates are so low... I collected the car with complete darkness and as always I trusted the eventual damages were recorded in the rental documents I signed. Never had any problem in the past with other dealers. At the moment of returning the car, the lady at the drop off started checking the car with the meticulosity of a surgeon. Two damages in opposite parts of the car were found and she contested them to me. I am absolutely sure that the car was not damaged during my rental period. Obviously she didn't care about what I believed as it was my word against her and she said it was my duty to check the car before leaving the airport. Fine. I had to paid Euro 371 (the rent for 3 days was about £15). The element that made me immediately think that this is a regular modus operandi of the rental car company (alongside very unusual competitive rates) is that while the lady was contesting the damages to me, two more customers that had just got the keys from the rental office, came straight to the drop off office as they noticed several damages that were not shown in the contract they had just signed. Bingo... Please let me know if there is something I can do to get back the money Italycarrent unfairly charged me. Many thanks in advance. "

" I arrived late to the Noleggiare counter to pick up the car and the staff told me that there was no longer a car for me. They didn't even try to contact me to see if I was coming and when I tried calling there was no reply. Fortunately Sergei M at Auto Europe was super helpful on the phone and helped me cancel the reservation and do a new one. I had to wait another hour or so but it meant I could get a car in the end for more or less the same cost. Once I got the car, it was too small I would say for what I booked. We had two pieces of check in luggage and they couldn't fit in the boot of the car. I had to place one fo them between my kids in the back seat. Not ideal but we just needed to drop the luggage in the hotel first so that was acceptable. "

" Pick up point far from the airport. We had to wait for a shuttle which we didnt find easily outside the airport. Wrong directions led us to the old pick up point. The car was dirty inside and outside. The staff told me they only cleaned the car inside (it was dirty anyway) and could not wash the car on the outside since they recently moved to this new pick up location and the car wash did not work. The tank wasn't full as expected. They told us the car returned to them with the tank full to 7/8 and we could have returned it the same way which was not easy to do since we didnt know how much petrol we should put to get back to tank 7/8. "

I can honestly say it was the easiest, quickest and most efficient car hire I have ever done and I've done a lot. The car was in immaculate condition and exactly as ordered. There was no hard sell about buying excess insurance cover. There was no wait at pick up or drop off. The car was also checked over at drop off and signed off with no faults. I've hired cars in the past (Europe car) where you leave the key in a drop box and they let you know in 14 days if there's any damage. Unless you photograph every inch of the car you've got no come back if they say it was returned damaged. I wouldn't hesitate to use Sicily by Car again. "

" We paid extra to go with a well established brand like Avis. We paid for the full protection plan and when we needed it had huge trouble. We were in Austria having got the car from Italy. We had a flat tyre and had to spend an entire day on the phone with Avis trying to get it fixed. Avis Italy was very difficult to actually get through to and we had to call at least 3 times each time to get through to someone. We were then given very inconsistent information that was often contracdictory. We lost a day of our honeymoon on the phone and had to eventually pay for the fix ourselves when Avis finally arranged something and then had to be reinbursed through Avis. This was an awful experience. "

The first car we were offered had severe tyre damage most notably to the tyre wall which was not recorded on the documents. Fortunately we noted this and the car was exchanged for a similar one with less damage. My understanding was that the car we were provided with did not have snow tyres. However, we were provided with chains as listed on the hire agreement. I had believed that cars hired in this area in the winter months are obliged to be fitted with winter tyres, certainly when I have hired in other areas with winter regions in the locality do follow these guidelines so it did seem disappointing. " I have always found AutoEurope easy to deal with and are my first port of call in car hire. It would be good if they could influence the quality of service from the rental companies but I suspect this will not happen. "
" In summary the problems are as follows:- At the desk there was a large queue with a single and slow operator. There was a second person in the office who did not assist. It took 90 minutes to get a vehicle, about the same as the flight. All the other operators had similar number of customers but were able to manage them efficiently. The car was cleaned on the outside but had not been cleaned internally and was not COVID safe despite your policy. Photographs are attached. There was nobody to complain to save the person at the desk who still had a large queue to deal with. Most critically the windscreen washers were not operational on the return trip from Corvara (Dolomites). This required the use of snow from the side of the road every few kilometres to allow vision, the combination of no vision via the windscreen and having to stop in the dark representing an extremely dangerous situation. The ambient temperature was -1C, nothing exceptional for December. I did add -70C fluid bought from a service station to the washer bottle in the car but to no avail. Function stated a few kilometres from the airport. I surmise that normal screen wash had not been used, but only water. The last 2 points represent negligent conduct and the latter could easily have resulted in the death of customers. "

" Terrible experience here (and I hire a lot of cars around the world) Car offered (Fiat 500L) was nothing like the Peugot 308 I had confirmed. But it was already dark and i had a long drive ahead so I accepted it. Only when I went to set off I realised it was automatic transmission and only 1.3L , so underpowered for motorway and hill driving (I hadn't been informed by desk clerk when I signed the contract that it was an automatic). I went back to desk and requested alternative. Desk Clerk, who five minutes earlier had tried to bounce me to an Opel Mokka for an extra €15 / day (!!!) (which I recalled had been available thru AutoEurope and budget's own website for no more than €10 for the entire 6 days) suddenly and magically didn't have any alternative cars except some kind of 7 seater (which again he didnt tell me and I only found out when I went outside to check it out). He then refused to offer me anything else (and insisted he didnt have a Mokka and that the 7 seater was a higher class than I had booked so I should be grateful). When I asked him to state on the record that he didn't have any other saloon cars he went crazy and said that if I drove away with the original Fiat 500L (the car he had originally provided, for which i still had the key and the contract) he was going to cancel the insurance. When i came to return the car at the appointed time (a little after 8pm, so by no means unsociable hours) there was no-one at check in, and I was told to take photos and to trust them and just leave the keys in the box. A totally unsatisfactory experience Avoid Budget at Venice airport at all costs! "

However our experience was soured by your counter staff not informing us about needing a vignette when travelling to Slovenia. We paid extra to visit Slovenia when we collected the vehicle, so your staff were aware of our plans. I believe your staff have a duty of care towards your customers and their failure to alert us to the need of purchasing a vignette led us to being stopped on a motorway and incurring a 150 euro fine. " I waited nearly 2 hours in a queue to collect the car at Venice airport, the counter staff were inundated with passengers all waiting. I witnessed a number of extremely unhappy customers returning a number of times with what they said were cars in a dangerous state - low tyre pressure and old models. I had requested an estate car as we had a snow board but there seemed to be an issue with getting that type of vehicle. I was also made to feel extremely pressurised to take out additional insurance - veiled threats that i would have to pay thousands if i didn't take it out and anything happened - even if it wasn't my fault - anything up to an extra 50 euros a day. i didn't take it out because a) i couldn't afford it and b) thought i had already bought the full insurance package at source but was worried the whole holiday. Eventually we were supplied with a Peugot Rifter which was a perfect size to accommodate our luggage but had a number of dents and scratches. It was diesel and the car never warmed up even after running it for an hour in the morning of a minus 15 degrees resort. Alternatively the return process was very slick and the best part about the rental. It took 5 minutes to hand the car back after the checks were made. "

The car had just been driven round to collection and it was filthy dirty (uncleaned) making it difficult to note any paint damage marks before accepting the car. There was a car prep area and I asked if it could be washed to examine - I was told I would need to wait 60-90 minutes She then proceeded to wipe areas of the car with a dry paper towel where the condition report had marked damage to see or show it! Very poor experience "

" Auto Europe have been ok we did rent a vehicle after all and it was what it was expected, I don't blame them for joints failings however maybe they should be providing more assistance to drivers who are caught up in the middle, in countries where they may not speak the language of the rental company. " Well it wasn't clear that the company wasn't in the airport when we booked, and then, the most important thing about where to meet the transfer was not abundantly clear on any of the paperwork or emails it was eventually found in the terms and conditions which is a very strange place to find it. When we collected the vehicle it was very quick but almost too quick we were just given the keys money taken and told where the car was. Unfortunately on the first day of driving we were hit from behind by another driver. I immediately called joy rent to find out what I needed to do and was met with a very unhelpful person on the end of the line. This could have possibly been to do with the language barrier but I would hope that and company renting on the English market would make sure they had staff who are able to speak it to an adequate level. We were just told basically sort it out when we got back and we would have to pay pay for the damage even though no it was not our fault in any way. Luckily for us the driver that hit us spoke very good English and between us we managed to fill out some very important paperwork which is a legal requirement in Italy if he had not done this we would have come unstuck. We worried about the money all the way through the holiday as we were told it could cost £1,500, we call during the next day and also spoke with auto Europe, they basically said that we would have to pay the excess which would be £1,500 and then try and claim it back from the other drivers insurance company. This badly affected on holiday as we was in having a budget to allow enough money to pay this excess. At the end of the rental we again spoke with a member of staff who really didn't tell us what was going on on didn't ask if we're ok or that if our holiday had been affected. He was very abrupt and then basically said we have to pay nothing and sent us on our way to our great surprise. It turns out the company wasn't that bad but the customer service was very lacking, with just a bit more effort they could make the experience much better. there was no documentation provided by either company that explain what to do in the event of an accident in Italy or anywhere else for that matter, when a sheet of paper with some basic instructions in English would have helped greatly at the time. "

" Firstly, my booking was not fully transferred to Hertz prior to arrival meaning that I had to complete many details that had already been submitted to you and which you ought to have shared with Hertz. Booking out took 25 minutes (no queue) which was unnaccepable.Hertz required 2 seperate credit card guarantees whcih was not pre-warned to me by our contract so I was lucky to be carrying two or else I would have had further problems! Why 2 cards? My Gold Plus rewards member status also meant nothing because I had booked through Auto Europe, which was upsetting. The vehicle had damage to practically every surface so looked appalling and I was embarassed to drive it. Some damage had not been recorded properly leaving the opportunity for it to be pinned on me, so we had to wait further whilst the vehicle was -re-inspected by Hertz before departure.Once we had the keys we had to wait 10 further minutes for the vehicle to become un-blocked from its parking space so that we could drive it. The counter staff didn't show us the car, gave us the keys and asked us to go look for the car. Furthermore, The car was not ready and we had to go back to ask for child seats with a whole new contract prepared all over. Please understand this is very late after a delayed flight. She did try to sell us other packages, did not explain them properly, we declined all the packages. Also, we had to pay an extra driver charges as my partner used her credit card to put the car on hold. I wanted to use my debit card but no where did it mention debit cards are not accepted, I stand corrected on that. Nevertheless the drop off was efficient. "

Don't use unless you are a gold cardmember. We couldn't refill the petrol at Venice, so had to return it with one third of the tank and were charged £100 for filling it. Extortionate! "

" We had booked a large estate car with a large boot, 9 months prior to our trip to ensure we got something large. We were travelling with our two small daughters and lots of luggage and we had an onward journey with more things from a different location. When we arrived we were told we had been upgraded and were given keys to a car with a boot space much smaller and so returned to the desk to query why. We were then told that we had been upgraded based on the fact that the only station wagon they had had been returned earlier with a damaged wing mirror and so we couldnt have a larger boot space car. We ended up trying to fit our luggage in to no avail, and then returning to the desk again whereby we were asked if we could "fold some seats down" to fit the luggage in, despite it being incredibly apparent that we had two small children with their individual car seats. This problem cost us two full hours of our holiday with two small children having to wait around in the heat whilst they tried to resolve the issue for us. In the end, 5 members o staff managed to remove he top and bottom parts of the boot space to try and help us for our luggage in, which we eventually did. I would never, EVER deal with Hertz again, their service (excluding the drop off) was inept and unprofessional in the extreme. "

However, on arrival I was told that this cover differs to that on the desk and my options where to pay an additional 175 Euros or put 1100 Euros on a credit card. This was not mentioned on the booking page in any way, and as I had already purchased cover did not see the reason to be charged cover again. The staff at the desk gave me the option to pay up or not take the car. By this point I had already incurred large sunk costs so had no option but to proceed and request the cover again. I asked to put the 1100 on my American Express at which point I was told that these cards are not taken. I had not brought any other cards as I had not ever been told there would be additional charges at the desk. This practice is not only unfair it is akin to robbery. I cannot express how disappointed I am with these companies practices. They are all in on it together and should be avoided like the plague. In future I am only renting through know, high quality, brands to ensure I can follow a clear and easy process without the need to expect lies and deceit when trying to rent a car to enjoy a holiday. " This was a terrible experience with Leasys and reflected badly upon AutoEurope, though I have used AutoEurope previously and been very satisfied and recommended to others. If I managed AutoEurope I would stop using Leasys until they can demonstrate considerable improvement as I suspect that like me, the initial reaction is to say 'well you get what you pay for" and your customers will stop using AutoEurope as a result. " I booked and paid for a Jeep to allow two large items of luggage and passenger with bad back to be comfortable. On arrival no car available (and it was made clear by the staff that this happens all the time and Jeeps never arrive) and one of the counter staff extremely rude and argumentative suggesting that 'it was my fault' as I had booked to collect the car at 11am rather than 12 when I arrived (even though no Jeep is ever available!!) and that I should be happy that I have any car at all (which they weren't going to give us until I insisted). " The collection of the vehicle was very straightforward and easy. The Venice office was located close to Mestre Train Station. The car was virtually new with only 3000 miles on the clock and spotlessly clean. The only issue was the drop off location in Salerno. Advertised as Salerno 'City' Office, this drop off point was in fact a random guy working in a petrol station at a service station on the Autostrada! I do ask myself, who on earth would want to drop a car off on the motorway?! How do Leasy's think you will then get to to the centre?! I hold my hands up, the fault was mine for not checking this address properly, but logic would surely dictate that the 'city' office is in the city. Anyway, we were lucky that the nice guy who we dropped the car off with, Ramone I think his name was, offered to drive us into the centre to take the bus to Amalfi...had he not offered we may have found ourselves stuck with a big taxi fare...if a taxi would have even come for us that is! Other than this drop off issue, everything else about the car hire was pretty much perfect. I would recommend this company. "

The lady i Dealt with told me on THREE occasions that my credit card was declined, when i called the provide they told me that no one had attempted to use the card and the merchant was clearly not entering the number correctly which transpired to be correct. the lady was not apologetic for her mistake which took around 20 mins to resolve given the hold time with the credit card provider. When we eventually got to the car it was filthy, particularly on the inside, to the point we ended up given the whole thing a wipe down as it was really not pleasant. It really wasn't a nice start to our holiday. The lady was very derogatory of Auto Europe and made me out to be some kind of crook for not booking directly with enterprise as it's made her job harder and given me fewer options. "

" As I mentioned before, I paid the additional insurance when I booked on Autoeurope website, but when I arrived to collect the car, the rental company said the insurance I had does not cover the first £1600 of the ( damages, accident cost or of the car stolen) I have to pay the first £1600 and Autoeurope will pay the rest! And the rental car agent ( Hertz) told me in order to get the additional insurance I have to pay £39 per day ( I paid) I don't think Autoeurope are clear when they market there extra insurance, i read Autoeurope policy again and they never mentioned the £1600 fees that the customer have to pay when book the car with the additional insurance! "
" When I arrived to Hertz office in Venice airport, the agent was very good he also upgraded the car category for free, but he informed me that I have only the basic insurance and I have to pay the first £1600 in case the car is stolen or I have an accident or damage. " I appreciate that this was a "budget" rental and that therefore some departure from "perfect" is to be accepted. The impression however is that the Sicily by Car folk at Venice have an insufficiently careful approach, especially where tyre safety is concerned and that would concern me when renting in future. "
" The staff at the Venice desk were pleasant and prompt. The attendant at the parking lot was equally so. However the car (which was two years old with 58K recorded) had various areas of damage which had not been recorded and was therefore not "free of damage "as I had been told at the desk and as the initial damage sheet recorded. The attendant at the parking lot produced a new sheet and happily marked in the damage but that should have been done in advance. The car had been cleaned on the inside but was dirty outside. On driving off the tyre pressure warning light came on and on checking the pressures I found the nearside front slightly under inflated while the nearside rear was down by almost 1 bar. This was unsafe and should not have been left for the client to discover and rectify. I had no other complaints about the car. Drop off at Perugia was by way of the key box as the one person on duty was busy dealing with renters. "

People could arrive with flights until 12 pm and need a car. Like I usually do . " I have used Auto Europe on a number of occasions and have never had a problem and have been happy with the service but I am now concerned that by going through a third party the hire company does not treat you as they would if you hired the car direct from them. I would suggest to friends that they might bear this in mind when hiring cars. "

However I accepted that I had to pay for the damage which was Euros 515.84 for a replacement windscreen which I am now trying to claim from my insurance company. For an international company like Europcar I think is an unreasonable delay however I hope they will resolve this soon. On arriving at Interrent's Venice office they refused to rent me the ordered vehicle as I did not have a UK photocard licence, but a VALID paper licence + passport, credit card and TWO separate ID'S, they claimed this was their policy and refused to help further or refund my money, and suggested returning to the airport and try some other companies. Despite my pointing out that theirs and yours terms and conditions clearly state the customer needs to provide a VALID licence +passport and credit card, they remained both dismissive and unmoved, refusing to help any further. Subsequently I returned to Venice airport and the SIX companies I approached were all happy to rent me a vehicle on my PAPER licence and could not believe how I had been treated. Needless to say, trying to obtain a car on a very busy Saturday was difficult and cost me a staggering 692 euros ! I did try to call the Interrent helpline numerous times, but the menu does not allow for contact with any customer services, and subsequent calls went unanswered! Furthermore, after inadvertently taking a wrong turning I was stopped by the Italian Police who asked for my documents and were quite happy with my VALID paper licence, passport and rental documents and also in discussion could not believe how I had been treated by Interrent. I have already lodged my complaint with your customer services department, and am waiting a reply regarding refunding my payment and also compensation from Interrent for all the extra unnecessary expenses incurred. Furthermore, I would advise that I have been renting cars in Europe and the US for over 35 years and have NEVER encountered such a situation as this. I am absolutely appalled at Interrent's behaviour and look forward to an early satisfactory outcome. "

" I paid more for car rental with Enterprise, but received a car from Locauto, a company I wanted to avoid due to their terrible reputation. I was therefore instantly unhappy - I could have saved myself a substantial amount of money if I had just chosen Locauto to start with. On return of the car, a very minor mark was found on the side of the car, and I was charged an extra 330 euros for this, even though it was very hard to see and there was no real damage to the paint. " Auto Europe refused to help us to extend the rental contract to an extra day, so we were left with a 29Euro charge, which was more than the whole week hire charge we had paid them! As an agent for a company, you are responsible for the goods/services you procure on behalf of a 3rd party customer. Saying you can't get involved in any issue after a contract has started (which is what your service agent told us) to a customer who is experiencing difficulties in a foreign country, is not acceptable behaviour, and is probably not legally correct. As it was only 29Euros, I gritted my teeth and paid up for the extra 24 hours, even though we were only 3.5 hours overdue, and half of that was wasting our time trying to sort the matter out from 11.00 to 12.30! Drop off was quite stressful as so many people dropping off at same time. Have since been charged extra for something we have no idea about and office opening hours are only open 9-1 weekdays. The car was acceptable but the high extra insurance meant we didn't take it out which caused some anxiety during the holiday ensuring we had no bumps or scrapes. In the dead of night (with luggage and tired children), with no information I had to find the Hire Car Office at the far end of the airport, up three floors and, when i got there, the car park was dark and all the offices were closed! By chance I walked around the car park to the central office which was open. What a relief! Please, Please provide instructions where to find it. "

I had booked a 4 door Renault Clio class of car, and was offered a 2 door VW UP, I was told i would have to wait another 30 mins for a 4 door, I only got the 4 door Fiat Panda, because another customer rejected it. Also I don't understand why I paid 315 pounds when for the same time period in August it was only 185 pounds. I only used an (on airport site) because i thought it would be better than an off airport site , how wrong I was!!!! Drastic improvements are required to tempt me to consider you company again "

I wasn't allowed to check whether my family and luggage would fit in the car before completing the hire but was told that if they didn't then I would have to pay to rehire another car. Thankfully no one was hurt but the kids were in shock. This was very distressing to observe. "

" Autoeurope provide a good comparison site. The improvement that I would like is for them to provide a more level playing field for comparisons by getting rental companies to declare all their stealth charges (like a surcharge for any birdshit on the car roof) in advance. "
" This company have introduced a new stealth charge namely they expect you to have the car cleaned before returning it (not easy in a foreign country) so that there are no specks of bird poo or flies on the registration plate. If there are any they may charge you up to £60. They offer an insurance against this but no other company has ever tried to add this on to my hire charges before and it is blatantly obvious that they are trying to screw more money out of their customers. There is no mention of this surcharge when the booking is made via autoeurope. I expect to return a car without mud all over it and always ensure that I do not leave papers and other rubbish in the door bins etc. I do not expect to clean mosquitoes off the windows. To add insult to injury, when we went to collect the car there was birdshit on the roof and dead flies on the front of the car! Theyt had not properly cleaned it to their standards. A related point is that, if I am hiring a car that should be road ready, I do expect that the washer bottle has been filled so that I can drive safely and keep my windscreen clear of dirt and flies. In this instance it was empty. When I queried this on returning the cart I was told that the car was almost new - as if this was relevant. In Britain it is illegal to drive without the means to wash the windscreen and I suspect that there are european laws that are similar - therefore the rental company has a duty to ensure that the car is road ready in this respect. "

Where you need to do better is transparency over issues like excesses and exclusions from the insurance. We as customers also have to have a lot of faith in your "refund of excess deal" How this works and customer reviews of your delivery of this would have been a big help. "

Marginally cheaper firms' offers were not attractive to me because other customer reviews had warned against dodgy charges and other bad practices. The car delivered was above an upgrade - it was great! I recently an English language guide to local road signs, restrictions and parking rules etc. It would be a great service to your customers to include this in your paperwork, pointing out any specific issues like any major roadworks. Your could also win a very easy extra prize by showing the customer how to programme the Sat Nav with the first destination - and have home pre-logge "

" I had a problem with my car and couldn't get it started at the toll booth on the motorway. The attendant called for a motorway breakdown vehicle and I was stuck there for 40 minutes. When I arrived at the airport the petrol station was closed as it was a bank holiday (i didn't know about this) so went into the Car Hire Car Park to explain to the attendant what had happened and, as the Petrol Station self service did not accept English Credit Cards I would have to go in search of a station that did or a cash machine. I returned with the car 40 mins after it was due and I have just received an invoice with 84 euros taken from my credit card. I am furious to say the least. "

A mobile phone is therefore recommended as I ended up using the mobile phone of an airport member of staff. The Firefly staff were friendly. "

This was 23 hours "early" on our 7 day contract but firefly thought they had a 6 day rental. It would have been easier if we had said we would return car on the Wednesday rather than the Tuesday. This would have been a bit of a nonsense but would have prevented the argument with firefly. In the end we were not required to pay extra. "

" I booked a Fiat 500. Upon arrival, none were available and we were given a Lancia Ypsilon. The check-out agent described this as an upgrade - we certainly did not consider it so. The only possible reason was that the Lancia was a 5dr, but this was of no consequence to us (as there were only 2 of us). Not having the Fiat 500 was a great disappointment - had really looked forward to the chance to drive one. Understand you have the 'or equivalent' statement, but to me the Lancia was in no way equivalent to the style and fun that the Fiat I had booked would have been.
