I got to the grab airport at 12:30 this caused me to pay excess charge for them keeping open but also the border crossing which I know you've got to pay was a salty 62 euros so all in all the border crossing fee and the late picking up fee cost me more than what the hire car did for the whole week !!! The staff for excellent though and the car was spot on Due to these extra charges I don't think I could recommend this company which is such a shame really if they sort it out there border crossing and late night pick up it would be great. " I have booked with ACTIVE many, many times before and have always been very satisfied. Indeed I make a point of choosing ACTIVE above all other companies in Zagreb. I like that I can pick-up the car in downtown Zagreb or airport. The staff are helpful and polite. This trip was ok but not perfect. On pick-up, I was not told that the car would lock me out if the keys were left inside. This happened to me and my family on Xmas day. The car locked itself with us outside. This was a nightmare because all our things were inside and we were stranded on the street.. ACTIVE did NOT have spare key which was very disappointing. We were therefore forced to pay an independent company to pick the lock of the car to get us in. I was not able to reclaim the cost of this on my excess insurance policy because I did not get a report from ACTIVE. Also, on drop off, I had to wait 45 mins for an agent to arrive to meet me. If i damage the car on a ferry I would have to pay the cost the same as if I damaged on the road - seems an extra unnecessary cost. "
" Quality of car against what we booked was good. Ease of pick up at Zagreb was good however we had to pay additional fees for the following the return to Split Airport rather than Zagreb even though highlighted when booking plus a fee for taking the car on one of the island ferries ! In total £65.51 of additional cost. When returning the car to Zagreb we had to park someway from departures due to construction work and was met by a representative from Nova. Upon checking the car he said that there was a small chip on the offside wing mirror and would have to charged for this. I said I had not made the chip and not even noticed it as it was very small. He said I would have to take it up with the main desk. When I got to the main desk the chap there said I had to pay for the the extras of £65.51 which I did on a credit card, different to the one I had paid the holding deposit on. Whilst doing this I received a text from my bank, that I paid the holding deposit on saying that a transaction had taking place and they wanted to check it was OK. This was for the same £65.51 !! The chap on the desk said he had not taken this and must be my bank !? After some debate it seems that the chap who met us in the carpark had processed the payment even though I had to go to the main desk scam or what !!! If my bank had not text me I would not have known and been charged twice for the same thing. The chap on the desk eventually acknowledges this but to me it is a clear scam. Moving on to the damage I was advised that as I had not taken out the additional insurance I would have to pay and the cost would be 1200 kuna !! ( £146.90) I said it was a tiny chip and he said his colleague had said it was 2cm long and that was the price and the glass was marked. I had taken a video of the mirror and said it was not 2cm and asked him to go to the car with me. He said his colleague had sent a picture and refused. The debate went on for some 45 mins until finally I said I would pay but would be taking it up with yourselves. After paying I said I that I was considering raising with my solicitor as the damage was so small and the cost was not in line with this. He then said that if it was that small he would go back to the car and pay for the damage himself if it was a tiny chip. Funny that after spending almost an hour with him and after paying he said this - by then no time to go back as we had to catch our flight. I accept that damage has to be paid even if not made by myself however the whole experience in my view was to make money and not allow the customer the opportunity to challenge - so convenient that the car was parked some distance from the terminal !! Over £200 in additional costs not a happy customer. "

" After completing paperwork on arrival, we went to the pick up and had to wait 20 minutes for the car to be delivered. The man in front of us had to wait 45 minutes. The car then had not been refuelled. On drop off, there was no signage and no staff to ask where to drop the car. Had to ask another company. Left the car some distance away in a field. Went to the counter. Had to walk back out to the field to check the car. And was then told that it would take 2 weeks to 'unlock' the deposit left on my credit card as it was a different office. "

" The amount of 1800 euros for a deposit is just ridiculous. We had to call our banks to increase the limit of spending on the credit card as it is usually less. It took us more than an hour to rent this car and get going from the airport. Also, the car had only 3 lines of gas when we got it and the norm is that the car is always full once it's rented out. Overall, it was a very annoying experience at the beginning. The car was good and we were content once we returned it. "

" When arriving the Zagreb airport there was quite a long wait to organise collection of the car, as only one customer representative. When our turn Sven dealt with our booking, he was very helpful and informative and offered us a range of cars available, helping us to decide which would be best for our journey. He was extremely patient, informative and helpful and made the wait worth it. The car was in great condition and once collected the process of checking the vehicle was quick. We had no problems with the car and a lovely 10 days of driving, the car definitly added to our amazing holiday. The drop off in Dubrovnik was very quick and efficient and then they drove us into the departure gate at the airport. I would definitly use active again and recommend them to others, overall a very smooth and stress free experience. "

My husband then had to come back and fetch us later. The drop off at the end of the rental was even worse. My husband waited in the hot sun outside their office for over 50 minutes. He was eventually told they were busy with another client. Really terrible customer services and we will never use this company again. "

" When we initially contacted you (AE) about the issues with the car we were promised that our problems would be sorted. But, as time went on it became evident that matters would not be sorted, and we were then told to sort it out AFTER we returned the car. We then received notification that you would change the car (after 2.5 weeks) by which time we were on an island off Croatia, and only had 3 days back on the mainland on our return. Due to the timing and schedule of our travel plans we were not prepared to start disrupting the last week of our holiday having already spent time trying to resolve these issues with you. "
" You have on record the problems we experienced with Oryx when we picked up the car in Zagreb, and the subsequent issues we found with it. We would expect a rental car to be clean - (inside and outside), and safe with oil in the engine, water in washer bottle and with correct tyre pressures. Sadly, none of this was the case! The upholstery was filthy and stunk of cigarettes which we had to endure for the whole time we had the car - despite a sticker on the dasboard saying "no smoking" and that there would be a €250 charge for cleaning. We could have very easily blown, or damaged the engine due to the lack of oil (ie. Only 2mm showing on the dipstick). We bought oil ourselves to hopefully rectify the issue and to keep the car roadworthy. "

" Please see my comments above. Auto Europe also needs to take responsibility for the partners they work alongside in providing correct information for collection and drop off points. Also the prices quoted for a gps were incorrect as they were winter prices and not summer prices which were almost double. Had I known this I would have brought my own gps. "
" I specifically went with fleet because it stated that the collection of the car was at the main train station in Zagreb. Unfortunately this was the not the case and I spent 1.5 hours walking around the city trying to find the car rental site. Eventually I found it. I tried to phone auto Europe to be given the correct address but was put on hold and after 5 min waiting I gave up. It was fortunate that I checked the day before collecting the car where the office as because it would have ruined my plans the next day if I had been walking around the city with all my luggage. When I asked the attendant at the fleet office why it said it was at the main railway station he said it was only a reference point. That might be reasonable enough if you also provided a specific address which I could have found on google maps but you did not. Overall I am very unhappy with the experience of the collection of the car and would not trust booking with your company again. Everything else was fine but this has unfortunately affected my opinion. "

" Arriving at the airport, there was nobody at the desk and I had to wait. A friendly rival person called them and after 5-10 minutes someone arrived. He said they keep the cars offsite not at the terminal as they claim in the booking. We drove to the offsite office 5 minutes away. The car was nice as reserved. I asked them to walk me round but they just said to look myself. On return, I had to find the offsite office again - not the airport drop off as advertised. There was no welcome really - just a bunch of young guys. I asked for help and they found someone to take the car back. There followed a very detailed inspection of the car and they found a scratch under the bumper (when I picked the car up, they made no attempt to tell me to look closely under the car!) They then asked for EUR115. I then had to wait for a ride back to the airport. The whole experience leads me to believe the leasing company that runs? Car Wizz has strict instructions to either get a top up insurance premium from drivers or to find a scratch. Certainly, this was one of the worst car hire experiences. At the least, you ned to tell hem to stop advertising airport pick yup and drop off. "

" A very good experience from pick up to dropping of the car,not to sure why there is a late pick up charge from an international airport and I would recommend that information on car drop off be a little more helpful as we said we would be dropping the car of at Dubrovnik airport at 03:00 but returned it at 02:00 as we thought we could get comfortable in the airport but we had to sit outside in the cold until 16:30 as this is the time it opens,over all we found enterprise to be a very good and helpful experience and would recommend them to others. " Th car rental company (Fleet Rentals) gave us a free upgrade from the Skoda Fabia we had ordered to an Octavia, which was a fantastic car. Very speedy, professional and friendly service at the airport in Zagreb. The car performed really well, was clean and in very good condition. No problems on the return. I would definitely recommend Auto Europe and their partner Fleet Rentals at Zagreb Airport for car rental in Croatia. This was our Tenth trip to Croatia in the last five years and the best service we have had of any trip so far. We will definitely use Auto Europe for next years trips. "

We emptied the car whilst waiting in the queue and the car was whisked away. It was a little disconcerting as we received no receipt for returning the car or confirmation that the car was returned with no scratches etc. It may be reassuring for customers to be handed a form when the vehicles returned saying no problems were found and to expect their deposit returned.
