On returning the car to the Swiss side at Geneva airport, which by the way is fairly stressful because the entrance and parking spaces are very tight, we dropped the keys of at the kiosk and was met by a very friendly employee. As a word of advice, photograph the car before and after the rental period. If there is any damage to the car not itemised on the rental agreement, report it immediately, do not drive the car away. "

" I was informed at the counter that the car was covered by only basic insurance. I informed the gentleman that I had purchased full cover. The explanation I was given was that Alamo provided basic cover, and that I had additional cover from Auto Europe. I would have to take my concerns to Auto Europe in the case of a claim, but that I would be responsible for up front charges. This arrangement was not clear at the point of purchase, and is a situation I am not comfortable with "

" I currently have a dispute with Alamo over a refuelling cost. I refuelled the car at the airport less than 1 km from the return bay. On the check in document it shows the fuel as full and I have a picture showing the car instrument panel after parking at the return location where the mileage shown in the car exactly matches the return document and the fuel gauge shows over the F mark. Yet they are charging me CHF 3.20 for fuel. It is not the cost but the principal; if they do this to everyone they make an obscene amount of money by fraud. "

" Very happy with the rates auto-europe typically secures, and flexibility with amending car bookings when required. Have used them many times over many years and recommended them to others many times. This trip a medical event saw our plans changed and we needed to extend the booking by 24 hours. As as we were mid-rental, Auto Europe referred me to Alamo to make the change. Alamo did that as noted above. However we had taken up the Extended Cover offered by Auto Europe to reduce the excess to Zero. Auto Europe could not simply charge me another 24 hours premium despite me asking. If we had had an accident in that final 24 hours this would have left uncertainty for all as to whether the damage occurred during the first 12 days covered by Auto Europe and therefore claimable, or whether the insurance with Alamo with a higher excess would apply, We could have been stuck in the middle with both companies denying cover. It would seem a simple solution for Auto Europe to accept a pro-rata premium payment over the phone for another day's cover. "

At least one of the vehicles was attractive to hear about and consider, until told the rental was very significantly higher so we went back to the original booked vehicle and could have just been on our way sooner, and a bit less frustrated by the experience. We had to extend our booking by 24 hours due to a medical event in our party. The website provides an easy link to extend but there is no indication at all of what the extra cost will be, just "our unpublished rate". For some certainty, I considered returning the car and taking out a fresh booking through Auto Europe with whatever company came up at the best rate, probably a competitor based on the quotes online. This would have been very inconvenient, but the uncertainty of a rate being charged without even an indication or quotation was unnerving when already dealing with a personal emergency. I found it impossible to get through to a call centre, just reference back to the website. Fortunately a message through the Contact Us section was replied to in around 24 hours, and we were advised of a fair rate in a friendly manner, so we moved forward. On drop off I was not happy about the service. We had refuelled the car completely. I almost had to force the staff to inspect the car. We were then told everything was fine and even on request we're not given a paper copy that everything was fine. We were merely told this would be emailed to us. We never received this report. A final invoice arrived 6 days later and I was surprised about 4.11 fuelling charge, despite the fact that we had filled up the car. It is not enough for me to pursue this but in my view this is not right. This x 100 cars is a lot. Next time I will not leave the car without written confirmation of everything. On return there were no parking spaces. However most staff were helpful and the car was clean and in good order. Could have done with a quick tutorial on what they were for or how to turn off. "

" Having missed my flight, I ended up travelling a day later. I was unable to amend my booking to pick up the car the next day and was left without a car. The Auto Europe staff I talked to on the phone told me the booking could not be modified in the 48h preceding car pick up. They had no means of contacting Alamo staff to let them know I was not going to pick up the car that night. And then the Alamo staff I talked to on arrival in Geneva told me they did not have access to the contract as the car was booked through Auto Europe, so they were unable to give me a car. This is completely ludicrous! I will NEVER use Auto Europe again. "

" Unfortunately, I was unable to collect the car at Zurich because when I was filling in the online information I became aware that my driving license had expired. I immediately contacted DVLA and made an application online and received email confirmation that I could continue to drive and my new license would arrive within the next two weeks. I then contacted autoeurope and the third party booking agent by telephone and was informed by both agents that without a physical, valid driving license I would be unable to rent the vehicle and that I would not be entitled to a refund as we were within 48 hours of the pick up time. At the time of these phone calls we were 47 hours from the pick up time. As a consequence I not only lost the payment for the rental but also had to pay for very expensive transfers to and from Lech, Austria. Whilst I appreciate that the lack of a physical, valid license is my fault I am extremely disappointed that no leeway was forthcoming either in the 48 hour cancellation period or the acceptance of my out of date license with the DVLA email confirming my entitlement to drive. I will not be using your company again. "

The man on the counter then suggested I consider taking out emergency breakdown cover, which he said was not free on rentals in Switzerland. I declined, but I think that it is either inappropriate that breakdown cover is not included in an expensive hire car which should be new and reliable (mine had significant damage at the rear); or the man on the counter was offering misguiding information to push customers into unnecessary spend which would also be highly inappropriate. On top of the usually much higher cost of car hire in Switzerland, this has put me off hiring there rather than in France in future - I am a regular customer of AutoEurope. "

We then tried to use a Revolut credit card and were told by the staff that they had recently stopped accepting it. Our arrival time at Geneva was very late and this caused enormous difficulties. We had to find alternative transport ( transfer) which put us out of pocket expenses to 150 euros. Could you please investigate above issue and ensure Alamo is not paid for this rental agreement. As they failed to deliver. Could you please reimburse us the hire charge. " Alamo, booked through Auto Europe, should have provided us with car hire for our trip to Geneva last weekend. We paid £127 for 3 days of car hire, which had already been paid over 2 months before arrival (21/09/2019), in full. When we arrived at the Geneva Airport Alamo desk at 10pm at night after a day of travelling, we were asked for a card to take the 500CHF deposit, and we offered 3 different VISA and Mastercard debit cards each with enough money to pay the deposit, only to be told that these cards were not acceptable as it had to be Credit card. We have rented cars on 3 previous occasions, with Europcar and a car rental company in Croatia, and this was never an issue. We've done countless dozens of bookings of hotels, cars, etc with debit cards, even when the companies asked for credit cards. Neither myself nor my partner has a Credit card, so we were told at the front desk that unless we could give him a credit card then our booking was not valid, despite having already paid. He advised that we should call Auto Europe and ask to change the booking to another company, however when we did this they told us that Alamo had our money so amending was not an option, and neither was returning our hard-earned money. Despite explaining to your staff several times that we had no Credit card, offering deposit via debit card, cash, or someone else's credit card (over the phone), we were told by Alamo that we had lost our money. This then meant that not only had the company ruined our weekend break, they had also taken £127 from us that they didn't return, didn't deliver the product that we paid for and caused hundreds of pounds of further costs by us having to use another company on the spot. Let me be completely clear about this: This situation is nothing short of a theft. Alamo, and Autoeurope by unfortunate association, have literally robbed us based on a ridiculous technicality. When we tell this story to our friends and family, no one can even believe it. On a final note, the confirmation voucher (after payment), does state that a credit card deposit is included in our booking (obviously written in tiny font), however this was not brought up once during the booking path before payment and has never been an issue with any car hire, hotel or other service/company before. I will personally see to it that every single person that I know and speak to will know about this and avoid using your company at every cost. "

However, as this was the 1st rental of that car, the lights have not been adjusted which meant that I had to drive in semi darkness which was unpleasant, stressful and dangerous. After many phone calls to Alamo in order to receive an Invoice from the garage so as this can be forwarded on to AutoEurope to finalise the Insurance claim, we are still awaiting an Invoice. " I was on a trip with two friends on my first trip away without my baby since he was born a year ago. I had received no confirmation email although the money had come from my bank. We therefore had no idea which counter to go to and had to spend an hour asking different desks to then be told eventually it was through Alamo. Once we got to the counter we were told we had to use a credit card in my name as the driver and you were not willing to use a debit card or any of my friends credit cards. The credit card did not work so we were then told to transfer to Avis where we could use a debit card for the deposit. We went to the desk where they said we had to phone yourselves. We did this and spoke to 'Andy'. He told us it was not explicit in their policy that we could not use another card and that we could use another so we put the phone-call on to the man at the desk thinking the problem was sorted. The man at the desk said we still couldn't do this but that if we spoke on the phone to yourselves we should receive a full refund. He was extremely unhelpful and made the whole situation even more confusing wasting us so much time when our trip was only for 2 days. Your companies do not communicate effectively and left us not only very stressed but also stranded in Geneva airport. We therefore had no option but to pay for a taxi costing us over £200! On top of the car rental payment we were unable to use! At the very least we expected a full refund for the rental we were unable to use! We were then told we didn't know what we were doing which we found extremely rude! The worst customer service we have ever experienced! Please escalate this to your management team. He was polite at first, but when we encountered a minor issue, he proved to be arrogant and pedantic refusing to grant us the car and essentially dismissing us with no refund or solution. Instead of proactively trying to help, he continued his stubborn stance until we found a legal route to solve the issue. Had we not proactively found a solution, we would have been stuck at Geneva Airport, out of pocket and our holiday ruined. When the car was handed over it was full of dents and scratches. The car had not been cleaned. I must say the lady that handled the drop off was very helpful and efficient. "

" We didn't take the car. Apparently because the driver was my daughter, Lindsay, and the voucher was in her name (though I had paid for the voucher) they would not take my credit card. We were both at the desk together, both had passports and I had already paid for the voucher! I was unable to drive and she doesn't have a credit card. We were left with two very young children, no hire car and no means of getting to our destination. Whilst it apparently says in your terms and conditions that the driver and credit card must be the same named person, it didn't say it on the voucher. I await your comments. "

On drop off the returns agent commented on this and suggested that I may be charged for this missing item, for which I'm not responsible. The agent wasn't very engaging and bordered on rudeness. "

It's Alamo's extremely slow pick up process: the staff member had to type ALL of everyone's details in the computer, for each person in the queue. They also had to print loads of paperwork. Please have clients enter their details at the time of.booking so they don't have to wait 45 minutes when picking up the car. "

Sadly I missed the fact that I had dropped my wallet under the driver's seat but realised as soon as I returned to the UK. When questioning why this was it became apparent they do not even have any VW cars in stock and don't supply them as advertised on the website. " Autoeurope UK were helpful in trying to sort out my mistake in the booking dates (although it would have been more complicated than me going directly to Alamo), however when I rang back and was routed to AutoEurope USA I was told that there was nothing that could be done to help as it was too close to the pick up time. Pretty disappointing really. "

" Would certainly use 'Auto Europe" site again for car rentals abroad, saved almost 30% from the exact same company we hired from. More likely 35% plus saving on the same vehicle on other known car rental sites directly, no issues with the voucher we could have not asked for a less hassle free experience. "

" Very quick and straightforward right from the start. Very helpful explanation from airport office staff and an extremely helpful explanation of how to drive an automatic car from a member of staff at pick up point. He made sure I knew what to do ( I had never driven an automatic car before) and guided me out of the car park. He was fantastic. Equally pleasant and friendly service when I returned the car. "

" I needed to contact Alamo during the rental and this was almost impossible. I spent over an hour waiting for their general enquiries number to answer and gave up. Their roadside assistance number was almost as difficult to reach and they gave me the Geneva French side Alamo number saying this was the only one. When this was answered the person was downright unhelpful bordering on rude. "

" Overall very good experience. The only thing I found on my return was that the car check was not done on the device when given to me in the beginning. The fault by staff and recognised on return but they acknowledged and all sorted out quickly. "
