Since then I have used Europcar at BHX and have had excellent service from the many staff. As I travel through BHX ten times a year I regard them as friends and they also treat me as such. " I arrived at Europcar and queued for 15 minutes before eventually being assisted by a friendly guy who asked for all my details (which must have been already available from the booking). He then spent 5 minutes trying to upsell me additional insurance cover. I had already taken additional Collision Damage coverage and Theft Protection from AutoEurope but he insisted that this was insufficient. Even though I declined Europcar's additional insurance cover, he continued to pressurise me into buying it. I repeated declined until he stopped offering it. He then proceeded to try to persuade me to upgrade the car to a "nice Audi Q5 or Mercedes SUV" for only "£40 or £50 a day". Again, he persisted with trying to upsell the upgrade even though I insisted that I did not want it. He then gave up and said he would go and "try" to find me a car. He returned and said he had found a Honda Civic but it would need to be prepared and would take around 20 minutes. So, despite booking the car more than 2 months before, Europcar were unable to deliver what I had paid for. He then said that I could have a small Skoda Fabia if I was in a hurry to leave. As I wasn't prepared to spend another (minimum) of 20 minutes waiting, I took the small car (despite having booked a "Vauxhall Insignia or similar Standard SUV". I had options of renting my car through other suppliers, at a cheaper cost. I chose Europcar on the assumption that they would deliver a professional service. How wrong I was. I will be avoiding Europcar for all my future rentals. "

" I checked in online on the Drivalia site, uploading all the necessary documents. The booking was for 4 days from 2pm. I phoned their office at 11am and said could we pick it up at 7pm. They said they would put a note to this effect on the booking We then drove to the Drivalia office at Birmingham airport to collect this car. We arrived there just before 7pm and spoke to Mohamed on their desk. At first he said they had no record of the booking. Then when I presented the voucher, he said they had cancelled the booking because we hadn't turned up within 90 minutes of the scheduled time and we would need to pay an additional £120 to reinstate! He claimed that the vehicle had been rented out to someone else just after 4pm I explained about the earlier phone call and he said he had no such notes on the booking. I showed him my phone showing the log of the call to their office and he said he believed me but we had no choice but to pay the £120 reinstatement fee (which would effectively triple the cost of the entire booking!). Naturally we refused to do this as we had done nothing wrong He even said that an equivalent car was available to rent to us in the depot but that we had to pay the reinstatement fee. Despite a long and difficult conversation, we could not persuade him to honour the original contract and so we had to leave without the car. We postponed our planned trip at great inconvenience but as a point of principle we were NOT going to pay any such fee. It is worth reiterating that , when I called to agree a later pick-up time, IF they had insisted that we turn up at the original time instead then we could have done so. But there was absolutely no mention of this I can't begin the describe how angry I am about this. It is clear that Drivalia seeks to exploit weary travellers, hoping that they will agree to unreasonable charges. I find it unbelievable that any company can treat a customer like this in the 21st century. I am determined to escalate and publicise this to such a degree that it costs Drivalia a hundred times what they were seeking to extort from us The question now is whether Auto Europe is going to support its customer or align its business ethics with that of Drivalia. However on 2 occasions I've been told very clearly that the online insurance is of no use and I'm then presnted with having to block out a significant sum (more than £1000) on a credit card or trake out additional insurance. It seems AutoEurope and the car rental companies need to get together to resolve this or stop selling additional insurance packages online if they're of no use "
" I picked up my car at Birmingham airport. It was chaotic. The car I had booked wasn't available and they tried to get me to take an automatic even though I had specifically said I didn't want an automatic. As always they were "persuading"customers to take out additional insurance even though I had previously paid for additional insurance. The whole experience took more than 40 minutes and was stressful and expensive and I'd honestly rather not rent again than use this branch. A reasonable online price became a very expensive one by the end. Awful! "

" I, like many from abroad do not have a credit card as banks take security money from current account. Therefore I had to take out excess insurance at a cost greater than the hire as the hire firm insisted that they could not reserve a large deposit on my debit card. I rang them prior to hiring to check this and was told it would not be a problem. I have my own excess insurance so it was an unnecessary expense. This should be made clear. "

" Really slow response to my email questions and I've also had to ring on many occasions to get answers causing my phone bill to occur unnecessary charges. Honestly I've rented from you before and not had an issue ever but this is the first time something has happened when renting through Auto Europe and the situation has been handled terribly. I've rented trough RentalCars before and had a issue that was resolved the same day with them ringing me and making sure everything was ok. "
" Horrible experience from start to finish, first had to wait 2-3 hours to get a car. Then received a different car. Then on my return car parts were stolen. But it the issue I had after this happened from having to ring many times to get the car recovered causing me a lot of phone bill charges and then not sticking to the original liability agreement. Just a horrible experience from ALAMO/Enterprise, I will never rent from them again and have advised many other people to stay away and they have. We will stick to sixt and other companies. "

Staff offered a smaller brand new car but then unable to allocate it unless I paid for the excess waiver insurance but I already had my own. Also, service light was on, eventually a more suitable sized car was offered. Finally I wish they had a Full to Full policy as it is difficult to judge how much fuel to put in - having had to fill up earlier in the rental I put 6 litres in to take it from 2/8 to back to how it was on collection 3/8 but the gauge didn't move. I had to put another 5 litres in and then it shot up to 4/8 which was annoying. "

" I paid to upgrade the car booked and ended up with a car that drove me mad for the entire 31 I was in possession of it. Every time I locked the car the alarm would go off at least once, if not more often. My mothers neighbours complained but at least I took the time to listens to their problem and apologise, unlike the staff who answered some of the 15 calls I made trying to get this issue resolved. Answers from Europcar staff ranged from its not a serious problem to we aren't a customer service provider. NO YOU AREN'T. Imagine how thrilled I was to hand over the car FINALLY only for the bloke in the returns car park to say oh yes it's a known fault. I am particularly disgusted with the Birmingham Airport staff who, despite repeated and I do mean repeated over many days and almost 3 hours of being on hold to pretty much every Europcar number I could find/was told to call, never once bothered to pick up the phone and answer a call or even worse never returned my call despite other Europcar staff emailing my details. As a long time expat who has hired many many cars I can confirm that this is without a shadow of a doubt the worst experience I have ever had and will certainly make sure no one I know ever touches this company with a 10foot barge pole. The refund of 3 days that I received in no way even behind to compensate for the inconvenience caused by a faulty vehicle never mind the worse than useless customer service. "

In addition, we had specifically booked with this company because the policy was a return fullnof fuel policy. When we received the car, it was so low on fuel that the warning alarm was on. The first thing we had to do therefore was to find a petrol station to put fuel into the car, and we ended up using significantly less fuel than we had put in. On returning the car, the checkin desks were empty and the reps weren't answering their phones. We had to wait 30 minutes just to return the keys. "

I asked to amend the booking and had no issue paying any amendment fee, but no, your call handler flat and bluntly informed me it was to late to amend and nothing could be done. I even had cancellation insurance with you, but that was useless as i was neither ill, nor was the flight cancelled!!!!. So after over a decade of using you, I will never ever use or book through you again. " Not the greatest experience I must say. Collected car on Friday evening no problem. Got a puncture at lunchtime on the Saturday and waited until gone 5 to be told that no one could assist me from the RAC, as treated as a breakdown as No Kwik Fits could help. There doesn't appear to be a great plan in place if First Assist or RAC are unable to help until the next day? Unbelievable. Thank goodness I wasn't stranded in the middle of nowhere but still unacceptable. In the end I had to contact a 24 hour mobile tyre service to get me back on the road to airport B&B. As I mention above, as the cars are checked in and out, if anything goes missing, surely the hirer should be liable? "

Engine lost power and AA roadside assist towed car away (AA very good) AVIS and Auto Europe not available, nobody answered phone, AA man very flustrated with lack of availability of AVIS people. I had to call a personal contact to pick me up from breakdown position. Next day still nobody at AVIS answering phone so I took a train back to Birmingham airport to report situation in person to AVIS. Manager of AVIS pick up site very good, he had not yet received any report of breakdown but quickly confirmed situation and cancelled old rental and issued new contract and car. Because car was rented via third party (Auto Europe) Manager was unable to credit me back for loss and breakdown but informed me he would request credit from Auto Europe....not yet received "

I have hired cars all over the world and never need two addtional proof of address as well drviers license. Asking for them to be printed when we are told to be more environmentally sustainable and have switch to online statements on apps which are not useable. Not happy at how I was dealt with by Ryan who had zero customer service skills or commom sense. "

" Over the years I have used Auto Europe and, through them, either Europcar or Keddy, frequently. My experience has always previously been a positive one and I've found their staff to be professional, helpful and friendly. Sadly, on this occasion, the young lady who dealt with me was none of those. Admittedly, she was polite and I wouldn't say she was rude either. However, it was blatantly obvious she was having a bad day and an ongoing disagreement with the young man who sat at the far end of the counter. I get that we all have bad days but, having worked for many years in customer services myself, I was always taught to leave my problems at the door, to choose my attitude and give the customer my full attention. As a customer, I don't need to know that she doesn't like the way she is being looked at by her colleague. Save the arguments and slanging matches for when there are no customers present. Even a smile would have gone a long way to improving the experience. A great shame that the attitude she chose that day was not a good one. "

It was not until day 3 did I find the A4 sheet (folded) behind the driver's sun visor which had the basic user-instructions. No-one had explained that it auto-starts when stationary, or had a speed limiter, and that the headlights even had an auto function (which had been switched off). Although I had been upgraded to a different car it may not have been that beneficial (it was not so-user-friendly and less-economical). I was not asked about drop-off times and office opening hours, and I had to ask a member of staff outside in the collection area what to do when I returned the vehicle out of hours. Member of staff was polite and friendly and chatty. I will however check the condition of the vehicle more thoroughly next time and not accept that it was ok...... "

Also it states clearly in the terms and conditions that the deposit to be held is £2500 but the guy who I dealt with on the day of collection took £2600 without my consent and did not provide a reason and this is against the law and the trading standards. Actually it's classed as fraud to take extra money from someone's account and not telling the person. I was told on email confirmation I would receive the "Toyota Aygo (Manual)" but was given a small red Kia. So your whole booking was a lie and did not meet my requirements. I want my money. "

A 25mm x 2mm scratch on the very edge of a wheel is barely noticeable to the naked eye, and certainly does not warrant a charge of £140.And £96 to run a car through a car wash is robbery. "

There are many cars available to rent here and the location is conveniently close to Birmingham Airport minus the headache of dealing with airport traffic and congestion. Always be sure to spotlessly check all over the car as they have a pricelist of charges they could apply when you return the car. Scratches, scuffs and minor dents from the opening of another car door can be added as charges so be very careful. "

The desk at the Green Motion office at Birmingham Airport insisted that I required one to take a car booked via yourselves and it was your requirement which could not be ignored. I had a Jersey photographic licence, the paper version of my Jersey Licence WITH a photograph reproduced on it and containing my home address. Also I had an official Government of Jersey communication in the form of my Income Tax Assessment that I had received that morning and I was using as a second proof of address. I was informed that no matter that I have my own Annual Car Hire Insurance that because I was from outside the UK they compelled me to pay £260.98 extra insurance to "cover them" as I had booked via an agency: yourselves and it was you, Auto Europe, that demanded a Passport even for Channel Island residents! As this was 9 pm just before Christmas and I had some miles to go I had to comply with what I consider BLATANT ROBBERY! Just because I was a Jersey resident arriving late before a holiday, and even though I am a Citizen of the United Kingdom, I have been ripped off. "

I did hire a car for second week again with Easirent as already previously booked, the car I was given was a badly damaged tiny Toyata Aygo which I had to go back following day to get changed as nearside mirror was totally cracked and made driving dangerous without clear visibility of left! Replacement given is another Toyota Aygo after Easirent agent tried hard to sell me an upgrade. "

In addition, the car had not been cleaned as there were mud splashes on the wheel-arches and the sides, and the body was not clean. The rear passenger seat was also marked - not noted on the "damages" document. In comparison, on drop-off, the staff member at the car park was very pleasant, did the checks straight away and assured me that there was nothing to stop my deposit being refunded without delay. That man (didn't get his name) needs a recommendation for good customer service, something that the lady on the booking desk would definitely NOT be nominated for. "

Firstly, their telephone opening hours end at 1pm which is not very efficient when you are working all day and cannot get to a phone before this time. " The email received from reservations@auto-europe.co.uk advised in the body of the email to bring driving licences, passport voucher and credit card, which I brought with me. At this point I was not aware that the I would be required to pay 1500 which would be returned within 28 days if the car wasnt damaged. In the interest of transparency and customer service i believe it would be beneficial to customers to know this from your email rather than learn it from the very fine print on the voucher. I was not able to provide such a large payment on my credit card and asked could my husband pay on my behalf over the phone on his card. This was not acceptable! as a result I paid circa another 160 ukpounds extra as insurance - despite having my annual insurance policy for rental cars. Also we were waiting over 50 minutes for pick up at the airport - despite having phoned 3 times. Believe it or not - my brother did not have a good customer experience with easi-rent the following day when he flew to Glasgow!! So two members from the one family impacted on two different pick up points/airports - it doesnt bode well! also there were two other customers in front of me that also had issues with charges etc. So between late pick up and the experience with the rental agreement - I will not be recommending Easirent. Auto Europe came recommended to me so I was quite astonished at the overall experience. "

We hired a Hyundai Tucson and the handbrake was very high and the centre "pod" situation made releasing the handbrake very difficult - eg for a hill start. Obviously this is a manufacturer issue but I have not encountered it before on this car (which we also hired in December 2018). Maybe ensure the handbrake is adjusted so it doesn't come so far up. "

" Experience with Green motion was good. With your Auto Europe representative - very poor almost disgraceful in terms of customer service. As you know I rent cars regularly using Auto Europe without any problems in the past. However on this occasion, I had been scanning my license for record purposes and foolishly left it in the scanner so not with me. My wife had her license so no problem, she could drive. However Green motion asked me to phone Auto Europe to change the driver on the contract or they would need to charge me 120 GBP for my wife as a second driver. I spoke to a male representative who advised that he could not change the contract unless it was 48 hours before the collection time so all he could do was cancel the contract (and loose 236) and give me another one which would have been for a smaller car and at 600. I told him that I did rent regularly through Auto Europe and could he not do something. his comment - No it is not my fault that you were foolish enough to leave your license and I cannot help you - goodbye and have a nice day. I know that It was my fault not his, however having been in sales for 40+ years before my retirement, neither I or any of my staff would tell a customer he was foolish. If you can trace the call on 20 December around 10-30 to 11, maybe some customer service training is called for. "

" We will never use Auto Europe or Interrent again. The whole experience of car rental with them was awful. The original price of 75 pounds ended up cost us nearly 400 pounds. Staff were appalling and unhelpful, we really feel like we have been subject to a scam. "

We were told our contract had expired, we had been classed as a 'no show' and our budget car was no longer available. How can we advise them of our flight being late when we are stuck on a plane? We ended up having to have a much bigger upgrade and paying more than three times the price we were originally advised. The girl at the Interrent counter spoke so quickly and with a strong foreign accent, we could barely understand her. She was offhand, unapologetic and unhelpful. We felt we had been well and truly conned. We will NEVER use Interrent or Auto Europe again but will book directly with a well known and reputable company with well trained and polite staff. We are totally disgusted, upset and annoyed with our whole experience are are nearly 400 pounds worse off for just one week's care hire. "

Unfortunately, the car fuel clock was either damaged or cloned, so it does show, and the tank is not complete, and they try to charge me for that, even I showed the petrol receipt. It took me 30 min to resolve the issue, until we went with them to a petrol station after many unite of refusal, them they confirmed that I was right. Considerable time wasted and came late to work on something which could be resolved much efficient and quicker. "

" On 8th October I was late collecting my car at BHX due to a flight delay notified 24 hours earlier. I had rung and informed them of the flight delay in advance and was thanked and assured of no change in prices. On arrival and at Easirent's BHX shuttle point I met two angry Americans alighting from the shuttle bus who advised me to be careful at Easirent as they had left WITHOUT THEIR VEHICLE in disgust at an attempt to 'upgrade' at a big cost to them because their small car ALLEGEDLY wasn't available. On arrival at the office I walked past a yard and garage full of vehicles including the small type I had booked. I was informed that as I was late my car had been released TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER and I was obliged to pay £67.20 for a larger model. (The same reason the Americans had left.) I recorded all the subsequent conversation on my telephone. My circumstances were such that I needed to get to Queen Elizabeth's Hospital and although I protested loudly and accused them of fraud because of the cars available in the yard and garage, I had to agree to pay. On leaving I photographed the 40+ cars available and the operative who dealt with me. I saw the booking schedule screen and noted that no more than four cars were due to go out that day. I picked up the huge Renault SUV I had BEEN allocated and left. This was a huge petrol-guzzling monster that I did not want. I reported the matter to West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Trading Standards that evening. On 11th October I was obliged to extend my hire by one more day and had to pay the higher rental charge of £42 for the day FOR THIS BIGGER VEHICLE. In this transaction I gave all my credit card details but my credit card was allegedly declined and I was obliged to use a different debit card. At 0030 hours that night my bank woke me by telephone to report that attempts were being made to purchase items using my credit card and debit card details to obtain pizza and a cycle. I have had to cancel all my cards. No one else other than Easirent has the credit card details as it was new, to satisfy the requirements of the hire. "

I was told I wasn't allowed a refund as it had to be 48 hours before. I had only booked the rental the day before. Awful! Then when I called the very rude telephone operative started arguing with me so much I had to scream SHUT UP to stop them talking to listen to be. Worst service with a company EVER, in my professional opinion. "

" I was due to collect my rental car at 8pm on the 16th of August. My flight, through no fault of my own, was delayed to an arrival time of 10.15pm. I called ahead to see if green motion was open. There was no answer on the office number, I assume was the Birmingham office, so decided to call the other number, which took me to a call centre. They attempted to transfer me to the office in Birmingham airport but after 26 minutes on hold with no answer I had to get on the flight so was forced to hang up. I arrived at Birmingham airport at 10.15pm. Following the directions on the confirmation I arrived at the first stop on the shuttle bus and couldn't see any signs to find where Green Motion was located. After speaking to the other car rental companies I found that green motion had closed even thought all the other car rental groups still remained open till 12pm or even 1am due to delays. I was stranded at this point in a place that I am unfamiliar with. In seeking some help I had to rent another vehicle from Hertz. They where only to happy to help and provided me with a car for a good price given the circumstance. I was at this point able to continue with my trip. This review email is the first contact I have had since being left on hold on the 16th of August. Auto Europe had my flight details and contact number both of which I provided because they give you as a company more accurate means of contacting and determining my travel details. It's obvious that as I haven't received a call or email this information is not used. In short I was charged for a car that I never got the opportunity to collect and use as planned with no help from Auto Europe. It's very unlikely that I will use the company again for this reason. "

The time it takes to arrange to be collected from the station to their depot is excessive and during the journey the driver drove way above the speed limit. " First attempt to collect the vehicle resulted in me leaving as they did not have a vehicle to rent in the class I'd requested. They tried to upgrade me to another vehicle at a cost to me ranging from £250-388. I left {incurring additional rail fare} to return later in the day to collect a suitable vehicle. Pressure put on me to buy the tank of fuel and return the vehicle empty. During the hire I noticed my credit card had been charged twice for the fuel bond and the tank of fuel. With this in mind I returned the vehicle full of fuel only to find that I would not have the tank of fuel reimbursed despite pointing out that they had charged me twice for the fuel. At check in they tried to charge for damages to an alloy wheel and a tiny 'pen size' mark on the drivers door. Upon checking they found the alloy had been damaged during a previous rental. I disputed the damage to the door and due to its size it would be easy to miss during the check out. Eventually agreed to pay the damaged door with them already knowing I'd a separate insurance to cover this. I have raised the issue with the fuel charges with their customer services and also informed Auto Europe of the same and the above facts. The representative at check in said he'd emailed head office requesting a refund for the fuel but on further investigation at a later date this was not showing up with customer services. "

It took Interrent almost an hour to find an automatic vehicle that should have been available when I arrived. Eventually I was given the keys to a Toyota Auris Automatic Hybrid Estate but I had to find the vehicle myself; there was no handover to establish the vehicle's condition or instruction to explain the controls. Admittedly there was a dispute regarding a scuff on the rear bumper that could be wiped off and left a small ripple for which I have been charged £351, this a a disgusting amount and I would appreciate your involvement in this to try to reason with Green Motion. I know the scuff did not occur was I was driving but can not prove it did not happen whilst the car was parked, the staff did not display only sort of compassion when I pointed out my personal situation and the extortion amount I was billed for such a small ripple on a bumper! " Hi I paied in advance for a car hire, the address to collect was wrong it consisted of a mixture of two addresses. so I wasisted more half a day on public Transport traveling to travel to birmingham International Train Station only to fing I had to collect the car from central Birmingham. The office in Birmigham where very nice and tried their best but the options offered would not work either. I needed the car to take my disabled child to the Hoispitial at the weekend so felt totally let down. Upon contacting your help line I was told that due to the address problem I would recive a full refund, I have still not been reimbursed and I really need the money as had to taxi to Shefield Childrens hoispitial and return which was £120 each way. not only has the car experience been a real pain but it was expensive, if you could arrange a refund as promised that would be a great help. " Initially, i turned up to collect my, prior booked, vehicle from Green motion at Birmingham int only to be informed that that booking was cancelled as i had placed it on the wrong collection day i.e. for the 16 rather than the 17th April. I admit that i made an error but was needing a vehicle after i flew in urgently from Australia to see my dying father, consequently LOST ALL MY PRE-PAID MONEY. Secondly, on collecting a vehicle a greater expense i was informed that i needed to get petrol for the vehicle as it was reading empty. Now consider the fact that i had just flown in, jet lagged and into an airport/ city i was not familiar with and told to go and fill the car up at the station on the M42...so there i was with a vehicle needing petrol and to get to the station on the M42...nothing like creating anxiety... Interrent wanted a £1200 deposit!!!!! this is the most outrageous and unreasonable request I have ever heard and this is not something I was expecting. therefore I then had to pay an additional £50 charge to reduce my deposit to a more realistic £150. clearly this is a scam to get everyone to pay the additional £50 charge which negates any savings gained going through your comparison tool and using interrent.
