" Worst car hire experience of my life. 40 minute queue at the Target desk on arrival despite only being 5 people ahead of me, all of whom seemed to get quite animated with the counter staff prior to their departure.... the reason became apparent when it was my turn. After being presented with paperwork for a Fiat 500 and explaining I had booked a Golf, we debated how unsimilar they were for a very brief moment. Not so much a debate as a shrug from the staff member. We then got to the only reason for the delay, insurance hard sell. Explaining I had already bought separate insurance from AutoEurope when I booked my car and showing them the paperwork, meant nothing. I was told I was not the professional, they were, and I should listen to them not some broker. I was threatened with exponential costs for damage including a daily charge for the vehicle being off the road if I damage it. Even turning over my contract and writing lists of sums that appeared more like telephone numbers, I assume to frighten me into submission. After clarifying that the insurance was optional and declining the kind offer of an extra £50 per day, I was forced to sign a form confirming the condition of a car I had yet to see and waived off toward the car park. I asked where exactly to go, the response was "you didn't want to listen to my advice so you can find it yourself". What a welcome to Sardinia! It's not over, I located the key collection desk outside after a brief search, on my own. When I entered the lady was on the phone and I heard her repeating my name. She finished her call and smiled to me, I introduced myself, no idea why my name had come up in her phone conversation because she still had to look my details up only to discover that due to an unexpected delay, my car wasn't ready and I would have to wait 30 minutes, perhaps I should have taken the insurance! She promised she would phone me when it was ready. To be fair she did, exactly 30 minutes later. The car was covered in scratches. Literally not a panel untouched. I was told to take pictures of them all for my records. I did, however clearly not thoroughly enough. Fast forward a week to drop off... We arrived at 7:55am. The lady that was there told me they didn't open until 8am and proceeded to ignore us until 8:05am. When she did speak to us, she told me off for being 30 minutes early. (A month before when making the booking I had allowed for traffic etc on the return and given myself half an hour leeway. I thought being early would be preferable to being late. She disagreed!) I apologised and explained I had misjudged the traffic, choosing not to mention the fact they had delayed me far longer without apology on my arrival a week prior. She checked the car. Immediately and suspiciously finding and photographing the one scratch (not really a scratch, it looked like a door had be opened into my car) that I didn't have a picture of from the week before, funnily enough the same colour as the car her colleague had just parked next to mine, and was still polishing. Then she located several more "fresh" scratches that I fortunately did have photo evidence that they preexisted, and which she then forgave me for. I'm yet to receive the bill for my scratch. I expect it will be more than the insurance would have been, and then I will have to claim on the "Full cover" insurance you sold me prior to arrival so will reserve judgment on that. " This time I was very disappointed by Auto Europe. I couldn't reach my destination as my flight got cancelled. While what I spent for the flight was given back to me super fast, Auto Europe told me I can only get a refund if I cancel my flight 48 hours in advance. So Auto Europe kept my money. The car rental told me if I had booked directly through them they would have refunded me. In that case I was told that I need to contact Auto Europe. Which I did. I even forwarded them with the email I received that was saying my flight had been cancelled. I got a reply saying what I said at the beginning with added, the part of the contract that says that I only get refund if the rental is cancelled within those 48 hours. Useless and very disappointing. I couldn't enjoy my hols as I couldn't reach my destination and i lost a good amount of money. Enjoy my money Auto Europe, but you can be sure you've lost a customer. We didn't take it but they made it clear that they weren't happy about it. This was very disappointing and tainted the holiday as soon as we arrived. " I rent cars frequently, in a number of countries, and this was the first time I had ever rented a Centauro car. It was the worst experience with a rental car company I have ever had. I was charged €50 for getting the car back of the late (I had just received an email from the airline telling me that my flight had been canceled, so I needed to pull over and work on alternate travel arrangements, which explains why the car was a little bit late). Also, a member of the staff, a certain Verdiana, pointed out a minor scratch, and claimed that it was my fault. That is not at all certain, I drove the car very carefully and did not come into contact with anything. At any rate, she told me that the penalty was €350, and outrageous amount for a small scratch paint (that had no effect whatsoever on the car's body) which could be fixed with a quick splash of paint in a few minutes. I am outraged. "

The representative saw an opportunity to take advantage. I was charged an extra €260 to take extra cover and I could not get the car without out. I was stuck at the airport with 4 children and had no choice. AutoEurope were just as bad. I phoned them from the airport. They wouldn't change the name on the booking to Chris or offer any other solution. They insisted on a significant cancellation fee so I couldn't cancel and rebook elsewhere. "

Not acceptable when they know the amount of customers waiting First car given didn't have full tank of petrol, one bar missing, and when starting the car, message on the screen stating, issue with engine, car repair needed. Had two waiting for another car. Eventually got the car by 1 pm. 3 hours waisted to retrieve the car. Definitely not a nice experience "

" I have used Autoeurope for 10 years, but have had many issues this year which is a real shame. Firstly was my car hire in Milano (where I was booked an electric car and then at the wrong airport!) secondly was in cagliari where 'nollegiare' was unable to take any of my cards - really bad year for Autoeurope! "

" After a delayed flight, we arrived at the Viaggiare counter to find that because Auto Europe had not provided our flight details to them (flight details were clearly provided to Auto Europe and visible on the booking voucher), our booking had been cancelled as we arrived at the desk more than an hour late. We therefore had to make a new booking, which for the exact same car and conditions, ended up being £50 more expensive than our original booking. I phoned Auto Europe to request a refund, and was told that I could claim a full refund, but only because I had paid for cancellation cover, despite this clearly being Auto Europe's error and not mine. I will say that the customer support operative was clear and helpful. I provided all of the necessary information in writing to Auto Europe within 30 minutes of the initial phone call. It is now 10 days later and I have heard nothing further regarding any refund, not even a confirmation that all the necessary documentation has been received. Even with the full refund for my original booking, I will still be £50 out of pocket for Auto Europe's administration error. Please be very clear that I will not be using Auto Europe again, nor can I in any good conscience recommend anyone else use them. I still await news of my refund. A very disappointing experience. "

Our booking had been cancelled because of a late arrival, but Viaggiare staff were quick and helpful in arranging another booking. " Waited over an hour in hot collection office to be seen. Only one person doing the paperwork for people whilst another just sat there doing nothing. Upon drop off the guy checked the car and went straight underneath the car to find some "new damage" - impossible for us to have caused it as we didn't park up to any kerbs. After this he didn't check the rest of the car. He said we should have taken photos of it prior to taking the car - obviously our fault for not jacking the car up to take photos of the underneath in the pitch dark of course. I disputed the damage was caused by us but he didn't care. On the checkout form in Italian (which he filled out) he asked me if I agreed to the damages, I said no and signed. Said if I paid now the charge would be €150 which I refused. After receiving the emailed form, it said I have agreed to the damage and now the charges were €255. I emailed them twice to raise my concerns regarding the situation and have been ignored. Overall very upsetting in that I feel the checkout form was completed fraudulently along with this "new" damage which has no doubt been charged to multiple customers or caused by a previous customer who bought their insurance. "

" We had to change our flights due to covid cancellations. On ringing auto Europe to advise them of this I was told that there would be another £1300 approx to pay? because the pickup was over 2hrs later that day. I was transferred to Dollar to discuss this but after several attempts to contact them with no answer autoeurope gave me a direct number. This number was not answered at all! On calling auto Europe back I was informed that during the summer months dollar was only open until midday. I tried contacting them over the next couple of days with no success. We therefore rearranged our flights to fly out a day earlier at extra cost just so that we could pick our car hire up on time as prearranged and not lose our booking. I then received a call from dollar 1 week prior to our holiday checking if we still needed the car because they were having difficulties and if we were not sure what time we were picking the car up it would be cancelled. I categorically insisted we would be picking the car up. On arrival at the car hire approx 1 hour prior to our allocated time of collection at the airport the office was closed. We also were not advised that dollar, Hertz and Firefly share the same office and had spent over 45 mins looking for the dollar office which in fact was Hertz office. We were eventually sorted out with our car at 5pm where someone came to open the office for us. The car was scratched but in a reasonable condition and the lady was very helpful. All in all I will stay clear of auto Europe and Dollar as no one seemed to have a clue what was going on and also the lack of information passed to us was shoddy. Also contact with companies unreliable. "

" AutoEurope tried hard by phone to resolve the issue but their was limited availability at such shirt notice. Sixt should have notified AutoEurope that they held no manuel vehicles in that class on the whole of Sardinia and removed te option for the selection panel. "

" On Pick Up, it was lovely to find out that we had been upgraded. However at Drop off, the Avis member of staff who checked the car, told us we had scratched the wheel rim on driver side, front. As we had done very low mileage, with the car parked each night in a private driveway, and driving 20 mins to the private beach parking every day, there was no way we had come next or near a high pavement to enable the wheel rim to be damaged. I also would have known immediately had I hit the kerb. I refused to accept responsibility as I knew I had done NO damage. The Avis guy told me he was going to write up a report. At this time, I told him I would not sign such a report. He went into the office then returned to tell me that he had phoned a colleague who had told him that the wheel rim had been previously damaged but had not been identified by them on collection. The front spoiler, which sits low, had been badly scratched on both the left and right. I suspect the wheel rim damage was possibly caused at the same time. This seemed to me to be attempt to have me pay for something I didn't do. This was very disappointing. I would have rated Avis 10 had this incident not spoiled my expereince. "

Flight information was provided as requested and clearly shown on voucher. Unfortunately the flight was delayed and didn't arrive until 12:30am. I fully appreciate that office hours at Hertz were clearly stated as up to midnight. However I was very surprised (and disappointed) to find the hertz office closed. " Renting from them hasn't been a good experience overall. The pick up was extremely slow. It wasn't clear that goldcar and Interrent are managed together in Cagliari so I had to wait for a lot of Goldcar customers to be served before I got to the counter. The staff was inexperience and it took them ages to process my documents. I also had to pay some extras due to my car being a diesel car. Never happened before and not that I wanted a diesel car in the first place. On top of that, I had to use three different cards before the extra payment was accepted. The next day I had my British debit card hacked and saw few unauthorised payments going out of the account. Not blaming them as I can't prove it but that is the only place where I used that specific card so clearly feel suspicious now. The staff was also extremely pushy in trying to sell their full coverage insurance even after I tried to explain that I have my own separate coverage. Probably last time I rent a car from them "

" This car rental experience was a nightmare. Counter staff at Cagliari airport tried very hard to sell their insurance lying we had no insurance cover although we told him we bought insurance with Auto Europe. We insisted not buying another insurance from him then this was the start of our nightmare. He charged us extra 2.5Euro *7 days for diesel car although we didn't request a diesel car (we understand this fee is charged only if a diesel car is requested). We complained we didn't request a diesel car but no use. He then gave us a faulty car with loose roof lights creating short circuit. After 9hrs (9:00-18:00) parking on the road the next day in Cala Gonone, car battery was totally gone. We called for road assistance, but road assistance came at 14:00 next day that was 20hrs after the incident! After the battery was charged and the car got start, we had to drive to the nearest airport which was Olbia to get a replacement car. After checking the car, the Olbia Goldcar staff was angry that Cagliari staff shouldn't give us this faulty car. When we dropped off the replacement car at Cagliari airport, we met the same guy. We told him our story and asked him to refund the diesel cost of 35 euro for the return journey from Cala Gonone to Olbia. He didn't accept the responsibility and didn't even say sorry. What he said was I told you to buy insurance from us. You didn't so it was your responsibility when car broke down. The Goldcar staff at Olbia is very helpful. "

Told to bring the car back for a replacement (what,65 kilometres, get real) but couldn't because car was broken down! Very poor service and nobody wanted to take responsibility. " Auto Europe did not make it sufficiently clear at time of booking that they were sub-contracting the lease to the third party 'Interrent'. This was not a significant technical issue and would not have precluded my booking through autoeurope. However, both my party, and at least one other customer present whilst we were picking up the vehicle unfortunately did not realise that this was the case, and many people queued at the auto Europe kiosk for around 2 hours unnecessarily, to be then told that we should have gone directly to the interrent kiosk, and then spent another hour queuing at that kiosk. This is evidently because of insufficiently clear paperwork supplied at time of booking. I can not believe that we are the only two groups to have made this frustrating mistake. The autoeurope title at the top of the booking confirmation is evidently misleading. The indication that the rental is subcontracted to interrent, and that the vehicle should be collected from interrent kiosk must be made much more clear and larger font on the paperwork supplied to customers. "
" 1) Office was extremely busy at pick up, resulting in a long delay. The office was clearly understaffed at time of arrival for pick-up, with only one of the three counters operating at any one time. 2) Token number machine was broken, and replaced by distracted/lacklustre apparently senior member of staff writing numbers on scraps of paper, on request and only when prompted, not proactively helping. This was extremely unhelpful and confusing, with all subsequent customers arriving after us also clearly confused and unsure how to proceed until advised by other customers, rather than staff. After circa 45 minute wait, said staff member forgot what number she had reached, causing more delay and frustration for all people waiting in queue. I actually received a lower number than the person ahead of me. This seemed very unprofessional, amateur and a terrible first impression. I would point out that this was not the general counter staff, who were clearly trying hard at a busy and understaffed period, but a different, seemingly more senior (managerial?) member of staff manning a separate podium away from the counter. 3) Despite taking out AutoEurope excess protection in advance, we were encouraged to take out unnecessary full excess protection through Interrent in addition. 4) Counter staff were actually efficient, but paperwork process was unnecessarily long, resulting in long delay at pick-up, despite having licence, booking papers, credit card and passport immediately available. This process could easily be speeded up to reduce queue and delay to the 'rapid' pick-up process advertised by Interrent. 5) The two 'garage' staff we dealt with at pick-up and drop-off were very pleasant, personable and amenable at both pick-up and drop-off stage during vehicle inspections. These people were the only shining light at Interrent and I suggest the office staff should have a similar approach. I suspect that the office staff were too busy and pressured, to be personable. "

" I booked the car using autoeurope.co.uk and paid for a full insurance. Paid 160 pounds and arrived in Cagliari the Interrent staff told me I could do a full insurance for 250 euros more. They try to push me to sign for this solution but I didn't accept and still don't understand why on the website when I booked it was saying "full extra cover" and the staff in Cagliari told me that's not a real full insurance cover and they would charge me every single scratch on the car. The car was new on paper but had multiple scratches, it wasn't clean, no wiper fluid. Never again, I'll avoid Interrent for my next trips. "

" Not very clear how to get to the office. Office staff was nice though. On returning the car the shuttle bus driver was stressed and dint want to let me on board so I was left there while my partner went to the airport. We made the flight though no problem but the customer service wasn't great in how he approached me. "

" They up graded the car from E class to K which was great. They took time to show me round the car & especially the integrated sat nav, although, the man had a cigarette in his hand, (YUK!!!!) which is unusual in the UK but ok in Italy. Handing the car back couldn't have been easier, they checked the fuel tank, took the key & after a signature, all was done & I caught my flight. "

A note on the window said 'Back Soon': indeed, the Firefly staff arrived within 10min the first time, within 15min the second. Now, considering there were 3 of them, surely ONE could have stayed behind and manned the office. Apart from that they were friendly and corteous. "

The car was as promised, but a few issues, firstly the person before must have smoked continuously as it stank and the car had clearly not been cleaned, secondly the child's car seat was of poor quality and lastly there was a warning light on the car where it hadn't been serviced 6,400 km ago. Having said that I would use Maggiore again, but would check the car thoroughly before and take my own child's car seat. It was very good value for money however as other rental companies were looking to charge nearly double!! "

Also would much prefer to see and be able to choose price including second driver at time of booking, 9 Euros per day added significantly to overall cost. "
