Cagliari Airport (CAG)
Official Name: Cagliari Elmas Airport
Address: Via dei Trasvolatori, 09030 Elmas Cagliari, Italy
Location: Located in the Elmas territory, the airport is about 4 miles from the town of Cagliari.
Airlines operating at Cagliari Airport: Flights from the UK are operated by Flybe from Manchester and Meridiana from London Gatwick. Though Ryanair does not offer flights from the UK, there are many connections within Italy and the rest of Europe.
Cagliari Airport only has one passenger terminal, but it has enough capacity to serve four million passengers a year. The ground floor of the terminal hosts both international and domestic arrivals, as well as baggage reclaim. Departures are on the first floor. A tourist information desk is there to help you on both floors.
Most car hire companies have their desks inside the terminal, in the arrivals area. Make a note of which company is the supplier of your rental car: this information can be found on your voucher under the "Pick-up information" and "Drop-off information" boxes. If you see a desk with the name "Auto Europa", do not go to this desk unless Auto Europa/Sicily By Car is named as the Rental Company on your voucher. Auto Europa is one of the many suppliers that we work with, and a different company from us, Auto Europe. Go to the desk of the supplier that is named as the Rental Company of your car hire.

Most of the facilities serving passengers at Cagliari Airport are located on the first floor. However, on the ground floor you will also find a snack bar, a cashpoint, and a gelato shop outside. On the first floor, there are dining options both before and after the security check, including a wine bar. You can withdraw cash at the cashpoint, and make purchases, such as magazines, books and traditional Sardinian good, at the many shops located both before security and airside. The second floor hosts the airport's conference centre and business area, and also has a self-service restaurant. Cagliari Airport also makes an effort to help you stay connected by offering a free Wi-Fi connection throughout the terminal.
The airport is very close to the centre of Cagliari, which can be reached in just 10 minutes via SS131dir. If you want to take your car hire from Cagliari Airport to explore some of the sites in the north of the island, Sassari, for example, is 130 miles away. On the E25 the drive should take just over two hours. A bit farther away towards the north-east, about 167 miles away, is Olbia, which can be reached via the E25 and SS131dcn in about three hours. The city of Cagliari can also be reached using public transportation. There are two main options: the train or the shuttle bus. The Elmas Aeroporto railway station was opened in 2013, and offers a train connection to Cagliari every 20 minutes between approximately 5am and 9pm. The journey time is 5-7 minutes, and you can purchase tickets for the train from the ticket machine in the railway station, as well as ticket counters or online ahead of time. The train terminal is about a five-minute walk from the terminal. The shuttle bus, on the other hand, departs from outside the arrivals exit, and provides a service to the Piazza Matteotti ARST Central Bus Station in Cagliari every 30 minutes, with a journey time of about 10 minutes. A ticket machine is located in the arrivals hall, and you can also purchase tickets at ticket counters or, for a higher price, from the driver.
Parking spaces in Cagliari are scarce, so it may save you some time and effort to just head to one of the car parks around the town. One, for example, is located close to the railway station. If you do find an on-street parking spot, please note that only very few parking spaces are always free of charge, and it is therefore imperative that you make sure you check all signs near the space indicating if and how parking should be paid for.
