Located just 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) east of the centre of Beziers, Béziers Cap d'Agde Airport (previously known as Béziers-Agde-Vias Airport) is one of the main international gateways to the Languedoc-Roussillon region of south-eastern France. Popular with travellers heading to the best vineyards and beach resorts in that area, the airport underwent extensive renovation work in 2008 which lengthened its runway to accept larger, more modern aircraft.
Owned by the city's chamber of commerce and industry, it provides connections to various destinations in the United Kingdom and northern Europe. Nowadays, it handles more than 250,000 passengers each year and specialises in low-cost flights to a growing number of European destinations. Once the airport's runway and general facilities had been upgraded, Ryanair promptly began flights to and from Bristol Airport in March 2008 and later to Stansted and Luton in London.
Small and vibrant, Beziers is a lovely city with a wealth of tourist interest, most notably the enchanting Saint Nazaire Cathedral which was built in the 13th century and was a major staging point for the Crusades. Béziers' historic quarter is a warren of medieval streets and buildings extending from the cathedral to the city centre. Another highlight for visitors is a leisurely walk along the banks of the Canal du Midi (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) followed by a few hours at Musée de Biterrois to see its rich collection of historical and archaeological artefacts from the region.
A car hire from Beziers Airport offers people the chance to see all the city's sights before heading off into the heart of the surrounding Languedoc-Roussillon region, one of the most picturesque parts of the country. An hour's drive west on the A61 takes you directly to Carcassonne, a walled city famous for its old medieval buildings. Other important places worth visiting are Montpellier and Perpignan, both excellent day-trip options within easy striking distance of Beziers.

Nestling in the foothills of the Haut Languedoc Natural Regional Park, Beziers Airport has capacity for up to 300,000 annual passenger movements. Its runway was extended and widened in early 2007 to handle larger aircraft such as the Boeing 737, which has greatly helped boost BZR's prospects to attract more international traffic in recent years. After the runway's expansion, daily direct flights to Paris Orly and seasonal services to Bastia were augmented by Ryanair flights to and from Bristol International Airport, London Stansted and London Luton, etc.
