Car hire at Dubai Al Maktoum Airport - Uncovering the UAE

Built south of the city, close to a fast-growing area called the 'new Dubai', Dubai Al Maktoum Airport (DWC) is the second airport to be built in the city after Dubai International (DXB). Currently the world's most modern airport, it was officially inaugurated in June 2010 and first opened its doors to passengers in October 2013 with the low-cost carrier Wizz Air chosen as the launch airline. Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways subsequently launched services from the 31st of October that same year, just a few weeks before Gulf Air commenced flights on the 8th of December.

Designed as an airport of the future, Dubai Al Maktoum Airport is destined to be the world’s largest global gateway with enough space and facilities for more than 160 million passengers per year. It will also serve as a multi-modal logistics hub for 12 million tonnes of freight once its operations are running at full capacity. To cater for so much traffic, the airport is scheduled to have six parallel runways and an equal number of concourses overlooked by a 91-metre-high control tower that will be an aviation landmark not just in the Middle East but the international aviation industry as a whole.

In tourism terms, Dubai's meteoric rise from the desert began in the 1980s with the opening of dozens of upmarket hotels and unique tourist attractions designed to establish both the city and the UAE as a first-class destination. Today's visitors can immerse themselves in one of the most inspiring and innovative experiences on the planet, with enough things to see and do to keep a whole family entertained for several weeks. Besides its many excellent beaches, the city boasts some of the world's most thrilling sights, including the ancient Al Fahidi quarter and Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.

With its prime seaside location in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, Dubai is a place where there’s plenty to see and do throughout the whole year, including winter. You can choose from an exhilarating drive across the desert or an exciting scuba-diving excursion in the nearby coral reefs. Or you can drive to Abu Dhabi, a fascinating place whose cityscape is on a par with Dubai's futuristic ideas. With a car hire from Dubai Al Maktoum Airport you'll have the freedom and flexibility to explore the United Arab Emirates much more extensively and in the comfort of your own vehicle.

From Ibn Battuta station you can plan your ownward journey to anywhere in Dubai and the UAE via connecting RTA bus networks of the Dubai Metro. The nearest metro station is located at Ibn Battuta Mall which can be reached via bus or taxi. Taxis are available and operated by the Road and Transports Authority (RTA). Parking Tips

Finding parking spaces in Dubai is relatively easy compared with the large European cities, for instance. Spaces are readily available in the streets and at the many multi-storey car parks right across the city centre. Street parking is often gratis in Dubai, except in the more congested parts of the city like the busy Bur Dubai and Deira districts. These days you can pay by SMS or through an app on your mobile phone. Likewise, it couldn't be easier to park your car rental at Dubai Al Maktoum Airport; there are close to a thousand parking spaces available in a prime location directly in front of the main terminal building. The majority of parking spaces are underground in a vast complex of car parks designed to accommodate an increasing number of passengers. There are also a number of short-stay car parks located close to the airport terminal, although it is not recommended that you stay more than 3-4 hours as the cost can be prohibitively expensive! The short-stay car parks are ideal for meeting or dropping off friends and family at the airport. Long-stay parking is a short shuttle-bus journey away from the terminals, which is by far the cheapest and most cost effective way of parking your low-cost car rental at Dubai Al Maktoum Airport.
