    Driving Licence Requirements

    The driving licence requirements in UAE state that you must have a full driving licence that is valid in your country of residence. An international driver's licence is also required.

    Road Rules and Petrol Stations

    General UAE driving information, laws rules and regulations:

    • Driving in UAE is on the right hand side of the road.

    • The use of a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with the exception of a hands-free system.

    • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver's licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

    Tolls

    The Salik toll road system was started in Dubai in 2007, to help reduce the problem of serious congestion. Each time you pass through a Salik tolling point, the toll of AED 4 will be deducted from your prepaid toll account (tags can be purchased from petrol stations and banks) using advanced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Alternative routes are available.

    Parking Information

    One-Way

    The policy for one-way car hire within the UAE varies between suppliers so please check before travel. Some suppliers will allow a one way car hire on a one day hire whilst others require a three day minimum contract. Also, please be aware that one way car hire can incur an additional fee.
