The airport in Pula is the very gate to the wealth of natural beauty and a vast amount of tourist sights in Istria, the northernmost coastal region of Croatia. Plan your trip to Croatia in advance and take advantage of lower prices when booking early.
Auto Europe is present at several top locations in Croatia and offers car hire from Pula Airport at excellent prices. Such a rich and versatile region as Istria, characterised by the Roman legacy still visible in walled towns and ancient architecture, the Adriatic Sea, and lovely hills on the mainland, remains one of the must-visit places on the Adriatic coast.
A stone's throw away from the city of Pula, you will find numerous beaches and tourist resorts. We recommend driving your car hire from Pula Airport to Rovinj, Porec or even to Trieste, the nearest Italian city. On this route you will experience a wonderful, scenic drive along the coast.
Make a stop at the Lim Fiord gazebo and marvel at the breathtaking landscape during this tour, or opt for a traditional dinner in one of the nearby villages not so frequently visited by tourists. Some of the small, family-run restaurants there are a secret well kept and true hidden gems where you can taste typical Istrian cuisine, infused with a dash of truffles in a variety of dishes. Ask the locals to recommend you their favourite "konoba" off the beaten path. It will be worth a short detour.
Pula Airport (PUY)
Official Name: Pula Airport
Address: 52100, Valtura, Croatia
Location: Only 3.7 miles from the centre of Pula.
Airlines operating at Pula Airport: There are 19 airlines operating to and from Pula Airport. Most of them only offer seasonal charter flights while few serve the airport year-round. Direct flights from the UK are offered by Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2.com and Norwegian.
Pula Airport consists of one terminal building. The main terminal building is divided into international arrivals, international departures and domestic arrivals areas.
You will find several car hire desks in the main terminal building conveniently located in the Arrivals area. Quite compact and modest in size, the airport has limited eating and shopping options. However, there is a modern café where travellers can grab a quick bite, and a duty-free shop which offers typical Istrian products for last minute shopping.
Pick up your car rental at Pula Airport and follow the road D401 down to D66 and Sijanska cesta. On the roundabout keep driving straight down Koparska street and continue onto Joakima Rakovca street. You will reach the city centre in less than 15 minutes if you follow this route.
All roads are well signposted and returning your car hire to the airport should be hassle-free. If you opt for driving on a motorway instead of our suggested scenic route along the coast, please note that the Istrian Y, a motorway complex shaped like the letter "Y", will take you to Italy to the north and Rijeka and the Croatian mainland to the east. On the way to Rijeka, you will need to drive through the 3.4 miles long Ucka Tunnel. This is a toll road. Click here to read more about driving in Croatia.
Plenty of parking space is readily available at Pula Airport. Self-service payment is in operation at the car park, which is easily accessible and is located just outside the terminal building on the left from the car rental desks. Finding a free parking space in downtown Pula, on the other hand, may not be particularly easy. On-street parking is allowed but be sure you have paid for it and displayed the ticked on the dashboard.
A large car park with around 200 slots is located at the waterfront only 2 minutes' walk from the famous amphitheatre. Parking your car hire here is quite convenient as many historical sites are within easy reach on foot.
