How to get to and from Salzburg Airport

Reaching Salzburg city centre is easy and straightforward for those who opt to rent a car at Salzburg Airport. Simply head for the A1 and you will reach the centre of the city in around 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can also take the Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse and the B1, but be aware that this route often gets congested despite being a quicker route than the A1.

If you’d prefer to use the city’s public transport network there are two different bus services available (numbers 2 and 10) which run every 10 to 20 minutes from the airport to the city centre and Salzburg Main Station. The stops can be found outside Terminal 1 close to the P1 car park and tickets can be bought either at the Newscorner shop inside the terminal building, from a machine at the bus stop or directly from the driver on-board the bus.

There are also bus connections to Salzburger Land, Tyrol and Bavaria, along with other popular destinations like Zell am See, Maishofen, Saalfeldon, Bad Reichenhall and more. There is no train station at Salzburg Airport, but if you are planning to travel by train then you will need to take the bus or taxi into Salzburg and then take the train from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof. The railway station is approximately 20 minutes from the airport. There are taxi stands with multiple taxi companies present outside the airport terminal.

    Parking Tips

A variety of parking options are available when you book a car rental at Salzburg Airport. The airport has over 2,000 parking spaces with short- and long-term parking options available.

However, parking spaces in the centre of Salzburg are quite limited due to the growing volume of traffic. The majority of parking options in the inner city are limited to paid short-term parking zones that are in operation from Monday to Friday, with free parking on Saturday between 9am-4pm, for which a parking disc will be required.

Salzburg city also offers a convenient Park & Ride options with over 4,000 parking spaces available. The option of purchasing a combined ticket including the parking fee and full use of the city’s public transport system for a day is the most economical way of seeing Salzburg’s sights.
