" We were pushed to rent a more expensive on arrival at the counter. We were told that someone wouls bring the car and keys to the front door only to be told to walk to collect. Also, the front and back wipers were terrible. The rubbers wasnt working and functional which meant we couldnt use them each time it rained. We often stopped to wait until the rain stopped before we could drive. "

Also told ha dto pay a further £200 which would be refunded. At time of writing (4 days after return, this has not been returned. email on the 27th Aug (3 days ago, has not been replied to. Infomration re child seat was not transmitte dto Sixt. Costs for indemnity are not aligned. "

" Firstly I should've been quoted the correct amount. Secondly Auto Europe should've sorted it out with sixt so I didn't have to pay the difference and thirdly I should've had a response to my email and the online application for a refund, none of which I've received. "

" The Mg Hs hybrid was very good and drove well and economical, great shame it was the base model which means you can not adjust the height of the front passenger seat . My wife is 5Ft tall and had to sit on 2coats folded up to see out which is not ideal when your in Ireland doing the scenic tours . Plus the sat nav takes you off the main road and takes you up farm tracks with grass in the middle of the road and then puts you back on the same main road you were on a mile or two later . "

" we were told by Flizzr that when we returned the car to the rental car part we could park anywhere as we usually do. However this time Hertz with spaces near to the pedestrian exit warned us that we would have a fine imposed if we parked there. I left my husband there (he has a mobility problem) and parked much further away - what is the true situation about return parking ? Can other companies impose fines for the use of their spaces ? "

I was told there was no car available as it was given away. Surely if I paid for it, it should be there. I ended up having to pay an additional 40 euros for another car. I expect it to be refunded to me. I was so tired after a stressful day that I just had to go with it. "

" The booking was with Flizzr, but there was no such signage at Cork Airport and we had to enquire as to which desk to approach. This added uncertainty and delay to the experience. On the first day, the key battery failed, leaving us at first unable to unlock the car and then to lock it. We were concerned it would auto lock but didn't. However being unable to lock the car for 3/4 days of the rental was v inconvenient and adversely impacted our holiday. Given the importance of electronic key opening, and despite the young age of the car, I would have thought key batteries would be regularly checked - clearly ours was at fault as they are supposed to last a lifetime. "

" Staff lovely but there was a long queue to collect car. I was going to a funeral. People let me in t the middle of the queue. The man before me had waited an hour. As the plane was delayed and then the car was delayed we missed most of the funeral. There were 2 people on the desk and many waiting, I guess because they were the best value. They must know who is arriving and therefore need more staff. I have not had this experience before. I guess I might pay a bit extra next time and get one of the other car hirers "

" I have frequently used your service and would like to continue but didn't find the staff at the desk very helpful in this matter. In the great scheme of things it hardly matters, but I would have liked my comments to have been properly acknowledged "
" When we filled the car with petrol it became apparent that, despite the fuel gauge showing it as full when we collected the car, it cannot have been as we do this journey all the time and know how much the fuel is likely to cost. I reported this at the desk but have heard nothing back as yet. Your representative told us that we should have photographed the fuel gauge before departure but this gad never been asked for before and anyway would have served no purpose. We only used the car to get home and back, which was 162 km. We had to put in 15 litres of fuel. This means that we would have had to use almost 1 litre for every 10 km. We drive slowly as well and, looking up how many miles that particular car expects to do per litre found it to be between 15 and 20kms This has never happened before. "

" I was told by Auto Europe that a doctor's letter was required due to my age (79). The reception staff said that was not necessary and that they have informed Auto Europe of this but to no avail. I understand that some car hire companies in Ireland do require this letter. My view is that I hold a full UK licence and have insurance for my own car so both the DVLA and my insurer accept that I am safe to drive. My doctor is not really in a position to give a different opinion as I rarely visit him (thankfully). "
" The car developed a fault on day 4 and had to be replaced. When asked about compensation for the time lost I was told to contact Auto Europe as the booking was not made direct with Carhire. "

" My experience and my family members experience with renting in Ireland and Portugal with Auto Europe has been very positive and they have helped resolve issues that arose with other Car rental companies in the past. "
" At Cork Airport on picking up the car, I was asked if I wanted to buy insurance to cover the Excess. I said I didn't as I have an Annual excess cover policy with Eversure (available on request). When I returned the car last Sunday I realised that I was going to be billed 100Euro + Vat for Excess insurance. I raised this issue at the desk and they said it was a mistake and that I wouldn't be billed for it. Nevertheless, my Credit card has yesterday been billed for it. In addition, I still haven't received any final statement from Thrifty. This is either a genuine mistake or a scam by Thrifty. I have been a long time customer with Auto Europe and I would like Auto Europe to take up this issue with Thrifty (Hertz). "

" mVery good service. However I would prefer to receive a paper contract showing what marks/dents/scratches are currently on the vehicle as you sign the paperwork "Sight Unseen". The car Park at Cork airport is uncovered and not very well lit if it is a late afternoon pick up. I differed and with their tally and had to waste time photographing 16 seperate arks. Cell network not very good so had to do it the next day when i had good coverage. Also it is not checked off by an agent when you return, unlike NIZA Cars at Malage Airport. You then have peace of mind that you are not going to be charged any "Extras". "

" When I booked my hire car with you I filled in the drivers age box as being 76 but nothing flagged up that I need a medical certificate/current car insurance record of claims. This was buried in the terms and conditions - very devious of Auto Europe. Auto Europe need to amend your online booking form to flag up this requirement then and not hide it away in T&C's. I will never book a hire car through Auto Europe again as I wasted my money on a hire car I didn't get. "

" The safety issues relating to the car hire are beyond the control of autoeurope. I have made my concerns known to Sixt. "
" The vehicle was clean, high mileage VW Passat, the rental price was good. It had a full tank and it was fine to drive. F/O/S tyre was in need of replacement and was probably illegal, I didn't notice this on pick up as I spent ages photographing bodywork damage and emailing the photos. I did later photograph the tyre and the "replace tire" warning is clearly visible. The wiper blades were in poor condition and smeared the screen rather than wiping it. On return I reported my concerns regarding the tyre and the wipers and the staff assured me that it would be dealt with before the vehicle was reused. I hope this feedback is some value to you. "

" The Sixt IT system was down and I was at the counter that it's been down for seven days. It meant I was not given a damage report and I found this very disconcerting. I was told to take pictures of the damage in the airport car park and send them to an email address, hardly an ideal start. I asked if the person at the desk could come out to the car park but he said he was on his own! The other worry about the Sixt system being down was I'm not sure if my data is even safe with them. "

It has put me off renting with this company again. I understand the reasoning for not fitting them is insurance but would it not make sense to train staff to fit the seats? " In view of the surcharge, I would like a comment from Thrifty. If they want something similar not to happen again, I suggest that they staff the office early and advise customers where they can go to fill up again at that time in the morning. It is impossible to find a 24 hour petrol station open in Ireland and it is disgraceful to be overcharged when it is not my fault. "
" The reason I have not given Thrifty as good a rating as I would have liked, is that I notice that I have been charged just over Eu.20 for something which I assume was fuel. I did fill the tank up when I left Bantry for my flight but arrived at Cork just before 5am as I needed to for my Ryanair flight but there was no petrol stations open at that time of the day. I did go round to see if the petrol station near the airport was open as although it was only slightly less than full, I didn't want to be charged but there was nothing I could do.As I only used just over Eu.20 diesel in the 3 days I had the car, I do not know how they can charge me now for that amount. I just don't know what else I could have done. "

They quoted me the 48 hour cancellation rule & offered me no help. I then found out all the remaining 9 members of our trip who had also cancelled but using other Car Rental Companies only had to pay a 10% fee for cancelling. When I phoned back to ask why were not given this option I was then told I could fill out a form on line & see. I did this & was again quoted your 48 hour rule for cancelling. My family frequently fly to Ireland to visit family but will most certainly will never book with your company again. "

" The parcel shelf in the hire car was missing? It was shown as being in the vehicle on the paperwork - lucky I spotted it before we left! Otherwise they would have charged me! Dropped off the car - there were no staff available to check the car was was all ok? Haven't heard anything to the contrary? So will have to check my credit card bill to see if anything has been deducted? They could and should have just let me know everything was ok - it's not my fault they had no staff available to check, all they had to do was call or text! "

" We are already still in dispute with Avis from an August rental with numerous extra charges added to our bill. This time I was so careful to double check everything. Car signed off on return with no issues and fuel tank checked as full yet Avis have charged me over 60 Euros for fuel. I now have to dispute again. My contract clearly full to full so I will never recommend them to anyone or use them again. "

" Lots of dents,scuffs and dirty car. Thrifty Cork charged our credit card for damage that was already there,luckily we had taken photos. "
" Picked up a 19 plate car,which had lots off dents and scuffs and the rear number plate secured by cello tape. The car was also not washed properly. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go back to the office,but luckily I took some photos Of the damage. We dropped the car back and a couple of hours later found that Thrifty had charged our credit card over €188 for damage to a tyre. On checking our photos we could see clearly that the damage was there when I collected the car. They have refunded the money, the €188 but only after I sent photos to prove damage was there,but nothing extra. Really a very bad experience and only for our photos,a very costly experience. " Everything was very good. The only minor niggle I have is that they take payment for the full tank, then refund it when the vehicle is returned. But as the payment was in euros the refund on my card was a little different to the payment. It would be better to add the fuel to the other 'block' placed on the card for the deposit, or a separate 'block' so payment wasn't actually taken unless the vehicle wasn't returned full. A very minor point and other than that a great service. "

What not so good about Auto Europe was that when I took the excess repayment cover it was not at all clear that Sixt would then offer me their excess cover & when I said I had the AE cover so 'no thanks' that was not good to stop them taking a £3k 'reserve' on my credit card in case of accident. They would then charge me for any damage that Happened that I would then have to seek if covered from AE. "

" Website very misleading. We wanted a carseat for our child. The autoeurope website made it seem as if we were reserving and paying for the carseat in the price paid. The price actually increased as we clicked on the child seat option. It turns out we had done neither. SIXT were unaware of the request (although fortunately they had one available) and we had to pay their extortionate daily rate for hiring one, almost doubling the cost of the rental. I would have made alternative arrangements to avoid this, and indeed thought I had. It's not clear to me what the extra charge from autoeurope for reserving the carseat was actually for. This practice is at best misleading and left us extremely disappointed with the service from autoeurope. "

This was in the small print on the last page of the T&Cs. I would have expected you to have drawn my attention to that as you knew my age. " The pre vehicle inspection was totally inaccurate. The representative told us that the damage we noted to the wheels was on all cars and he did not need to come and look at it. We told him there was substantial damage. He then said it would be on the inspection form. We showed him that this was not the case. He still insisted that he did not need to see the wheels he would add it to the form. We received the new form. On returning the car the same representative 'discovered' a scuff on the tyre, in line with the damaged alloys and said we had to pay £200. He insisted this had not been there on delivery, even though we had pointed all of this out.He refused to accept this. We signed a blank damage form, which we annotated as above. The form we received describes the scuff as a cut. This was not the case "

" Bit of confusion re excess and the type of insurance I booked. I selected the more expensive price online as I thought this brought my excess back to O. Flizzr offer an another extra of E30 per day at the counter. It was clarified then that if I did have an incident that my E1500 deposit on my card would be held onto and the extra insurance I bought through Autoeurope would need to be contacted to reclaim any cost back. Not a big issue but I started to doubt then what exactly was this "extra" I purchased with you and what it exactly covered. I wasn't comfortable then driving around for the few days rental then as I was anxious re having an accident and what would happen with my excess. Spanish car rental model works better where there is just one rental cost with Zero excess "

" When trying to change the named driver to my girlfriend, we were told that the booking couldn't be amended after the pick up time had passed. This made amendments quite stressful and our options quite limited. Thankfully the staff at the airport were really helpful even though I was disappointed I couldn't drive for the trip. "

If the conditions of hire could be made clearer when booking that would have made our pick up less stressful. Thankfully my girlfriend had her license documents with her so could drive the car. " The car I actually got was a diesel Kia Sportage SUV. I initially ordered from the web which gave a description of a Toyota Rav4 but i knew that another car could be substituted depending on what they have available The Kia turned out to be a lovely big car for 4 of us plus luggage. Great to drive. Air con, cruise control, really comfortable, reasonably powerful, despite the limitations of a diesel engine. The Sat nav was disabled so you'll have to rent one, but worth it to rent. Could also link iPhone to sound system. It was a shame to give it back! Easy to order car online with auto europe, plus they give you an option to purchase insurance to cover the Euro 2,000.00 excess which I did. Peace of mind! Easy collection at airport, tho' do check car carefully. You have to collect from parking area yourself. They put a ticket in car showing dents marks. Our car, although 99% good condition, did have some additional scratches not on their list. Take pictures and email them (or go back to desk). They tell you to email if needed, when collecting keys. Make sure you put your contract number on email and not reg no. Return of car was easy too. Flizzr must be popular as there were three people in front, yet no one at other car hire desks. It takes a while to go through renting procedure when picking up, so if others are also picking up in front of you when giving back, you'll have a potential wait, so DO allow yourself some extra time on getting back to airport, bearing in mind you'll have a plane to catch Would def recommend!! "

" Upon collection I explained to Neve (apologies if not spelt correctly) that I only needed one of the Child chairs for 2 days - not 4 as per the duration of the car booking itself. Neve agreed to reduce the charge for the car seat to 2 days as per my actual usage and told me to drop the car seat off at the car returns location on Sunday 5th August at 12:00hrs. I attempted to return the car seat at the agreed time to the SIXT drop off point where the car seat came from. WHen I handed the seat over to Marek he advised me that he was unable to give me a receipt / confirmation that I had returned the car seat - he was very obtuse in his response to me. I then advised him that I would not return the car seat if he couldn't guarantee me that the seat would a) not go missing and b) I wouldn't get charged additionally for it going missing when I returned the car. I also explained that the staff at the airport advised me to do what I was doing and his lack of help was very unprofessional. At this point he actually mocked my physical demonstration that I was using to show what I was doing i.e. gesturing with my hands that staff to the left of him told me to bring this over to him - he did it in a very condescending manner shrugging his shoulders and repeating what I was saying in a mocking way i.e. saying blah blah blah. I have never been spoken to by someone who works in a service where customers are the people who pay their salaries, and never will I be again. I did end up swearing at Marek as he drove me to a point where there was no progress that could be made. He also refused to phone Neve to get confirmation that what I was saying was the truth. At this point I filmed the car and seat being returned to the office - to which Marek remonstrated. I advised him that once I returned the seat to Neve at the customer services desk I would delete the video. SO over to Neve I went, I asked her for a word out of the hearing ears of customers who were picking up their cars and I explained everything that happened above. Neve advised that what I was doing was not the norm for them - to which I advised her that all I wanted was commitment from them that I had returned the car seat as I had received it - this is not too much to ask. Neve took receipt of the car seat and left a note on my file that I had returned it. I have emailed Flizzr / SIXT to lodge a formal complaint about Marek from the car returns team. Can Auto Europe please follow this up as well. They need to address this level of unprofessionalism. "

" I hired a car for a very short but urgent trip. Monday might to Wednesday morning. My car broke down on the way back to the airport in a fairly rural area (albeit main road). NONE of Budget's breakdown cover 1-800 Freephone numbers in Ireland were contactable from my UK mobile and there was NO reply at 7.45am from several Budget car rental offices at Irish airports (when on duty from 7am) or from Head Office. I only made my flight because a kind stranger an hour later stopped and went 30km out of her way to drop me at the airport. Budget desk manager at Knock Airport did not charge me the one-way fee nor for the half a tank of petrol I had used but to be honest the entire rental should have been refunded. Car had sprung a big oil leak so clearly it was not checked properly before I hired it at Cork Airport - would make me worry about the safety of hiring a Budget car again. "

I did have to report a couple of scratches etc. to an employee before we drove off, and someone else might not have thought to check, so perhaps your vehicles need to be better inspected so that you don't end up charging people needlessly for damage that was not caused by them. Otherwise, a good service. Signposting - about where and how to drop off and where to get help etc. - could be slightly better at Cork airport. "

" Our rental included returning the car full of fuel and accepting insurance excesses (personally insured liability). On returning it undamaged and fully fuelled, AVIS refused to inspect the car or check the fuel and would not give me any receipt or documentation to acknowledge its return. They said to check their website next day (I tried and it wouldn't work). Over £1,000 'block' had been put on my credit card at rental start (re excesses etc) and I was told that this would be released in 10 days. Nearly a week later, I am still waiting to see if my credit card is hit with charges for fuel or damage I don't owe. These are totally unacceptable antics, particularly in light of an asset value in the teens of thousands of £'s. Thank you. "

One small niggle: they charge your card for petrol in advance, then refund it if you bring back car with full tank. Other companies don't do this advance charge thing, plus the amount of refund is often not identical to the advance charge, probably due to exchange rate fluctuations. They could do with simplifying this whole process! "

" Damage check on car prior to pickup was not accurate - there was far more superficial damage to car than Hertz were suggesting - customer shouldn't have to do their job and report damage back to hire desk at 8pm after a flight. Unless they do it deliberately to charge for unreported damage. Otherwise a great experience - newish VW - very cheap hire. I would use them again "
