While the car was clean and in good condition, it felt like a downgrade from what I was expecting, even if it was rechnically in a higher class. A 90-minute queue is by far the longest wait I have ever had for a car rental desk. And then not even an apology for the wait from the counter staff. Dollar/Hertz know how many vehicles are being collected in that time period, why not put more staff on the desk for the busiest period? Other car rental companies at GVA had normal queues. I would avoid Dollar/Hertz at GVA like the plague in future "

" Few days before I had been contacted by auto europe staff to say my prepaid car rental wld incur higher costs!!! And stating i wld not have the car available as i stated my arrival shortly after the time of collection. This is unacceptable as i had provided thr flight details and clearly the policy states 2 hrs time for collection without contacting auto europe and more if contacted! Very unpleasant experience and surely not one that wld bring me back again as a customer "

" When I placed the order with Auto Europe I booked additional damage and theft protection and had expected this to be honoured by Dollar. It should have been made clearer by Auto Europe that the agreement was separate to Dollar. I booked the cover to avoid the stress of checking and evidencing every scratch on pick up and return, but we had to do this anyway. In future I will book directly with car rental companies to avoid this. "
" On arrival to collect our car Dollar wanted to charge us for additional full damage and theft insurance protection. We were clear that we had paid for this via Auto Europe and showed the voucher but they explained that this was a separate agreement with Auto Europe and so if there was any damage on return we would have to pay Dollar and claim back from Auto Europe. I feel that this should have been made clearer at the point of booking. When we returned the car the car was accepted back with no damage and we were told that we would receive email confirmation of this, but no email confirmation was received. On a positive note, they didn't have the car that we booked and gave us a complimentary upgrade. "

" Insufficient staff to manage demand. Car had damage and was advised to take photos of anything that might be missed which I did. At drop off the member of staff said all was good but subsequently received a 550 CHF charge for damage to vehicle but no explanation and had to chase to understand what is was for. They subsequently replied with photos of damage which were pre existing and I have the photos at pick up to verify this. The situation is ongoing and very dissatisfied with this experience which I hope will be resolved to my satisfaction soon. "

Ouch! Beware folks: take out insurance offered - don't be penny-wise & pound-stupid. Lesson learnt. "

Signage wasn't great and the queue was a scrum. " Dollar desk was closed so all Dollar customers had to use Hertz. Quite a long wait. Hertz tried to strongarm me into extra insurance. I told them I planned to drive the car into France (which I'd previously also confirmed with AutoEurope. The desk clerk actually said that if anything went wrong I was on my own. Bullying ! Car was fine but had various noted damages which I couldn't inspect in a crowded dark multi storey car park. On return, I was advised of a mark on a wheel. It is noted as a scratch on their damage report and they've charged me GBP 240 for it. "

" For the first time, I think Auto Europe mis-sold the product to me. I booked a "Ford Focus Estate" or similar through you. Instead, Hertz offered me the choice of two hybrids. So we got a car that we did not book. At the very least, I suggest you state that I could be forced to drive a hybrid (or non-ICE vehicle) at the time of booking. I do not consider a hybrid to be "similar" to a Ford Focus Estate. Even better would be to give me the choice. As a consequence I do not know whether to trust you in future to provide the vehicle I booked. The problem lie with Hertz but I simply do not know who was to blame for this error. I suspect that if I had booked directly with Hertz, they would have been more receptive when I refused to accept wither of the two hybrid options in the category. "
" I had the worst ever experience with Hertz [Dollar]. Usually I consider Hertz to be the best; not so this time. Hertz offered me the choice between 2 hybrids. I had not ordered a hybrid and did not want one. As a consequence, I had no choice but to accept one. I booked a "Ford Focus Estate" or similar through Auto Europe. I do not consider a hybrid to be "similar" to a Ford Focus Estate. As a consequence I do not know whether to trust Hertz with providing the vehicle I actually ordered in future. It is possible that if I had booked directly with Hertz, they would have been more receptive when I refused to accept either of the two hybrid options in the category. The reason I didn't like the hybrid was that: a) it cost be approx. an extra £150 over a week over the petrol car that I ordered. Most people hire a station wagon at an airport to drive out of town with a family - as I did - so lugging around heavy batteries on motorways (with a battery only option of approx. 30km if actually charged) makes no sense to me. This explains the extra petrol costs I incurred. b) The battery was empty when I took delivery and a notice on the dashboard stated that it had not been recharged for at least 20 days, suggesting that several people had not recharged it. The battery should have been recharged when I took delivery for 2 reasons: the battery takes up the place of the fuel tank (which is required to be full - and indeed was) and to lower my substantially increased rental costs given that I needed to lug the empty batteries around with me. However, it is also true that I would not have been able to return the vehicle with a full battery - and would have been miffed if I had been charged for not doing so. c). I had to refill the car 5 times rather than the usual 2 as the fuel tank is so small. That was wasted time. d). Conceptually, recharging a full EV at a recharging point makes sense if you can drive 200km or more with it. The same cannot be said for a hybrid station wagon hired at an airport that offers only 30km or so of autonomy. The place I drove to had no recharging point but stopping on the motorway to recharge the car for a hybrid (with the time it takes to download apps while three children are crying in the back seats) makes no sense whatsoever. Finding a place to recharge a full EV overnight was not an option on my particular holiday but will probably be possible in the next few years but it is scarcely worthwhile for a hybrid used on motorways. In summary, Hertz's bet on hybrids makes no sense to me, even less than their much publicised decision to step back from their bet on EVs. e) while the sales lady at the Desk was polite and efficient, she told me that we had to accept the hybrid as it was 'the future'. Proof that this is not the case, is the fact that Hertz had not recharged it for us. Please don't preach to me about being with the times when you provide me with a battery with 0% battery life. "

" While it was Dollar who refused to hand us the car, then cancelled it the next day, Auto Europe should have a system whereby customers can get hold of them out-of-hours, so essential changes to the booking can be made, which would have meant we could have got the car. Also, AutoEurope must make it very clear at the time of booking that a credit card is essential: this can't be missed by the customer. Pop-ups on the screen or follow-up emails stating explicitly would work well, and would be very easy for your company to implement with minor software changes. "
" I didn't have a credit card in my name, but it wasn't made clear at the time of booking how essential this was (I've always managed to use debit card in past with other hire companies), so Dollar refused to hand us car at Geneva airport. I phoned AutoEurope at approx 7pm BST on 3 August to try and change booking name to my wife (who had a credit card) but your phone lines were closed and your 'emergency' line went straight to voicemail. Called again following morning but was told that Dollar had cancelled our hire as 'we hadn't come to collect it' (not true: we spoke at lenght to the Dollar rep at Geneva airport). So lost entire booking and all the money it cost us (plus we had to spend a further £300 to get to and from our resort). I realise now I needed a credit car, but this should have been made very explicit at time of booking (eg. large pop-up on screen stating customer must have credit card, rather than small print on contract), and it is very unfair for us to lose the car within just 14 hour of not colleting (what if our flight had been delayed that long?). Presumably, Dollar re-loaned it to another customer, so I'd be very grateful if they or AutoEurope could consider refunding us the hire cost, minus any necessary admin fee. "

The french accomodation owners have given us a full credit note even although we stayed 2 nights. The french ski school and ski hire company have given a full refund. The french lift company gave a full refund. It is only an English car hire broker who has offered nothing. "

When the weather is bad in the ski resorts the police insist on snowchains, often refusing you entry to the resort. Fortunately, the weather remained good for the 2 days we were there but it could have been a problem. Itwould be nice to be given what we booked. You see plently of 4 x 4 vehicles in ski resorts with snow chains. The handbook for the hire vehicle stated how snow chains should be fitted. " Very good and poor. We were upgraded by Hertz which was unexpected. Jeep Grand Cherokee ideal vehicle but bit large for some French roads. Downside we find on Sunday the car needs ad blue. No garages open in France then vehicle fails to start at hotel barrier. No one can enter or leave hotel. Car refuses to move. In desperation hotel manager has friend who has ad blue at home. She kindly drives us to collect 5 litre ad blue hire car starts once ad blue is filled. We purchased a 10 litre replacement and bottle of wine for kind assistance. We had no time to call road side assistance as hotel was concerned no one could move. This spoilt our plans for the rest of the day. Surely ad blue is checked before hire. Thankfully we were in town. We could have been stuck on a remote mountain road. Overall Hertz Dollar did well but we could have done without lack of ad blue on a Sunday "

Car was of general type requested (Auto, Estate) and I was very pleased with the type. However - you could smell that somebody previously had been smoking in the vehicle and there was evidence in the central ash tray. It is very difficult, in a covered car park, with a black car, to see if there are any scratches or chips to note when hiring. At the return inspection, the inspector pointed out one chip on the rear left door aperture. He is an expert, I am not, so had not been able to see this. I am pleased that he had good judgement and was tolerant of this. "

I had a flat tire, which was changed to the space saver, on Monday nobody could help satisfactorily. Customer services could only say go to local dealer (in Cluses) . They only had a very small car and I had upgraded to a bigger car. There was no opportunity to change the tyre myself without incurring cost and breaching agreement. So for the weekend, only had space saver and then on Monday nobody could resolve a simple issue as a tyre. "

" The car we got was not what I expected, The BMW series 2 , but they did not have one so we where given a Toyota Rava instead. I was highly impressed with this car it was almost new and automatic with a large boot I certainly got value for what I paid, without a doubt I will be looking at the Auto Europe web site for next years car hire "

Later there were two members of staff. Value I choose not to take auto Europe no excess insurance but thought I would take the Dollar insurance. This was a mistake. The dollar rates were really high. Also they informed me that as I was travelling outside Switzerland I was not covered for breakdown in France unless I paid extra. In total I paid an extra 330 Swiss Franks on the desk. We did not need a larger car as only two of us . After about 30-40 minutes the gentleman finally agreed to let us have the larger car at the same price. When at Geneva Airport it so happened our Dollar hire was handled by Hertz, but that was even better as used them elsewhere around the world. They kindly gave us an upgrade free, brand new car. As a comment it would be handy if a small map showing car rental location area at any airport and road system with nearest petrol stations can be paper run off when hiring. I had to use my satnav system on my phone, so managed. "

But your office declined to offer that facility because i had extended directly. I would have extended through AE but you do not allow changes at short notice. So you should find ways to be more flexible regarding rental extensions and offer of your insurance. "

All good except for one thing - explanation of Roadside Assistance policy for travel outside of Switzerland, CHF 35 one-time or face a CHF 500 call-out fee, regardless of the circumstances. Based on that I declined the offer. When I had a breakdown due to flat battery and needed assistance while in Austria rather than face a CHF 500 charge I called a local service who charged me EUR 139. On reporting to the Hertz Zurich office I was informed that in this circumstance I would most likely not have been charged if i had called the Hertz CH assistance hotline. Had this been explained more clearly I may have saved myself EUR 39, which I will now claim from my Auto Europe insurance. So please advise Hertz to be more clear about the circumstances in which they would charge the call out fee of CHF 500. "
