    Driving Information in Hungary

    Driving Licence Requirement

    The driving licence requirements in Hungary state that you must be at least 17 years old and have a full driving licence valid in your country of residence. International Drivers license is mandatory

    Age Restrictions

    To hire a car in Hungary, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge when picking up your rental in Balatonfoldvar and any other destinations.

    Road Rules and Petrol Stations

    In Hungary, the following highways require a toll sticker: M1, M3, M5 & M7. Hungary toll stickers can be purchased at gas stations and highway stations and last for 4 days, 1 week or 1 month, price depends on duration.

    Parking Information

    Most of the main tourist areas have free parking, so you will not have any issues when trying to find a spot for your car in Budapest. Parking is permitted on the right-hand side of two-way streets and on both sides of one-way streets.

    One-Way Car Hire

    If you plan to drive with a Hungary car hire you can pick it up in one location and return it to another location but there are some restrictions that you need to check with your car hire supplier. Domestic one-way car rentals are free of charge with some restrictions. There are fees for international one-way rentals and not all vehicles are allowed.
