    Driving Information USA

    Driving Licence Requirements

The USA has an agreement with most countries whereby the renter's full national driving licence may be used for a period of up to one year. This applies to the full UK driving licence.

    Age Restrictions

The USA age restriction is that to hire a car in the USA, you must be 21, although some suppliers may have a minimum age of 25. Often an additional charge is levied on drivers who are under 25 years of age. Some states operate a surcharge of approximately $13 per day for drivers aged between 21 and 24.

    Driving Distances

    • Colorado Springs to Denver (Colorado) - 109kms (1hour/10mins)

    • Dallas to Austin (Texas) - 320kms (3hours/25mins)

    • San Francisco to Sacramento (California) - 140kms (1hour/30mins)

    • Orlando to Miami (Florida) - 378kms (3hours/50mins)

    Road Rules and Petrol Stations

General USA driving information, laws rules and regulations:

    • Driving in USA is on the right hand side of the road.

    • Seat belts when driving a hire car in USA are mandatory in most states.

    • Never throw litter from your vehicle - you could be fined up to $1000.

    • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver's licence, registration documents, car hire agreement paperwork (rental agreement) and insurance documents when driving in Los Angeles and other cities.

    • USA petrol stations are plentiful along highways and in cities, and can usually provide maps, road directions and information on the area you are in.

    Tolls

Some of the major highways in America are toll roads, often called turnpikes, but most are free.

    Parking

Never park at a kerb that is painted yellow - it indicates a fire/emergency services access route. Parking in USA major cities (such as New York) can be expensive, so be prepared.

    One-Way Rentals

In general you must return the car to its original location, but there are some exceptions. Many rental companies allow you to pick up a car in Los Angeles and return it in San Francisco (or the other way around) without any extra charges. Also picking up and returning a car in different locations within Florida is granted without extra charge. Depending on the company other one-way car hire extra charges are possible. You can check all one-way USA fee's when making your booking, or by calling +441233225114.

With your car hire in Orlando, for instance, as well as in other USA cities, it is important that you have looked through some of these rules and regulations about driving a car to ensure you have the safest possible journey. The more information you gather before travelling the more prepared you are for driving in the USA.
