" Everything was great, only downside was that the office is only open from 08:00 and our flight was 08:30. There's a drop box but then you don't have any confirmation they actually received the car back and if it's damaged after the car is left there is no evidence it wasn't you. Auto Europe should not use green motion if they want to keep a god reputation. "
" I was very disappointed with the poor quality of car having booked through what I believed to be a reputable company - Auto Europe. I wasn't aware that green motion was the actual provider and if you look at online reviews you will see that people have had similar experiences to me. They said that the small fiat 500 (or similar) wasn't available so they provided an upgrade - an old Mercedes suv. The car was too big, have dents/scratches on every panel (I can send the check in documents), had tyre pressure Waring lights on, air bag inactive lights on and the suspension clanked every time the car went over a usual road bump. In short the vehicle wasn't fit for a hire car and not fit for what I expected from Auto Europe. "

When I arrived, the car hire agent informed me that he had rented the SUV I had booked to another customer. He said he didn't think I would come back for it. Instead of a spacious SUV I was offered a Skoda with 185,000 miles on the clock with at least 12-15 serious scratches and dents, a wheel trim missing and a warning sign saying "oil service overdue." It was the only car available. I have been using AutoEurope for many years, but this is the second time this year the company has introduced a hiring agent that falls below expected minimum standards. "

" After arriving 1 hour 40 minutes later than our booking time, because we were stuck on the runway for an hour in the UK, sixt said they had released our car. Even though they had full payment, they refused to refund our payment or offer another car at the same price, instead insisting the only option was a BMW @ an additional £240. On returning the car they tried to say a dent in the bumper was not recorded on their system, even though when renting the car it was noted on the system, fortunately we had taken photos of the scrapes and bumps. As soon as we said we had photos they remarkably found the note of the dent. When we made the booking we chose Sixt because it had the highest rating. We also chose the addition insurance option from Auto Europe, but Sixt said they didn't recognise this insurance as it was for the original car and not the more expensive one. When we argued with Sixt about all of these issues, they refused to acknowledge any responsibility and referred us back to Auto Europe as we booked though them. Given that we booked in good faith with the highest recommend car rental company in Dubrovnik and took the most expensive insurance I genuinely cannot see what more we could have done to avoid this all too common situation when renting abroad. Overall a very frustrating and difficult start, and end, to our holiday. "

" We had an awful experience and all you cared about was making sure you had your slice of the money, there is nothing else other than middle man greed with you. We hired a car through you which stated in the contract that out of hours fees were included. Upon arrival, the provider said it was a mistake and we needed to pay an additional €120 for the out of hours service, but admitted that the contract stated otherwise. They said we could leave and lose our money, or pay the additional. We expected that AutoEurope would recognise this as illegitimate instantly, but instead you said we should have paid the fee and "tried" to reclaim it through them. Now you have said a bunch of lies that we were late, when we weren't, and you are not going to provide a refund. You are a terrible company that provides no means for review. You publish your own review which isn't gauged and all others on independent sites highlight massively lower ratings. "

We explained that it was clearly written in the contract that this fee was included in our rental price, which they acknowledged, but said it is a mistake. Option 2 was for them to take 900 Euros from my Credit Card credit card to cover any damage. I expalined I had already paid extra when booked the vehicle for full cover which included any Excess cover and and damage waiver. The woman told me that if i didnt that didnt make a differnce and that I still had to pay either 220 Euros, or 900 Euros as if i didnt and had an incident I would need a full Police Report have the £900 taken from my Credit Card and then try and claim it back when I returned. To stay the hassle I decided to take Option 1 and paid £220 Euros as this covered me for any incindent. I was promised id get it back providing there was no damage. I retuned the car to find on arrival there was nobody there in the office. I ended up taking a video of the vehicle, in the scorching heat, to prove there was no damage, or scratches. A neighbouring Rental car company next door assisited me in telling me where to park the car and where to put the key. I had the car for three days when I dropped it off. I was in Croatia on holiday for 2 weeks and after dropping the car of was there was a further 11 days. Still the 220 Euros had not been credited back to my card. On my 14th Day I had a Taxi drop my wife at the airport, while I went back to Garage to find out why after 11 days, my credit card had not been credited back with the £220 Euros. They told me it had, but it has now been nealry 2 weeks and I am still waiting for the 220 Euros to be credited back to my Credit Card. The girl at the Garage Office told me it could take up to 2 onths which i disbelieve. "

" There was no-one at the rental office in Dubrovnik when I arrived. When someone did return, they were rude and unhelpful. They also said it would take 2 to 3 hours to cross border into Montenegro which was concerning but in the end it only took 30 mins. "

There was an issue with the rear suspension which meant the car was squeaking and rattling all the time and did not feel safe. Garage must have known about this issue prior to renting the vehicle. " The car was good and I was also upgraded to an automatic. The staff were polite and helpful. We had had to wait in queue with a number of people after us as well. My biggest negative issue was that I had deliberately gone with the company because they had offered full-to-full fuel, but when I arrived I was told that I could buy a full tank of petrol from them or fill up at the petrol station, ie the car was not provided with a full tank without further payment. The man at the counter told me that my journey would require a full tank and that it was cheaper to buy from them than at the petrol station, so given the pressure of time I agreed and paid an additional €79. However, this turned out to be more than I needed for our trip. This is one of the reasons why I deliberately chose a company that offers full-to-full: to avoid overspending on petrol. "

" All was as expected with regards to the car. The only negative was with regards to the GPS unit provided. We were instructed on pick up that we were not allowed to take the car outside Croatia. However, we were traveling to Makarska & unless we used the Peljeski Most bridge we would have to cross the Bosnia/Herzegovina Border. I put in the address of the property where we were staying in Makarska but the GPS still took us to the Border crossing. Meaning we had to do a 30k round trip to get back to the correct route which I had to do using Google maps on my phone. From that point on we did not use the GPS unit as we did not trust it. On returning the car & informing them of this & asking for a part refund on the charges. We were told that we would not get any refund as we should have returned to Dubrovnic Airport for the GPS unit to be updated. We felt that this was not the proper thing to say but there did not appear to be any point in getting into an argument over this so we left it at that. However we feel that this needs to be brought to your attention. "

" The main problem was insurance. When I pick up the car I was offered to buy additional insurance for 350 euros (almost the cost of my rental). They said the insurance I bought with Auto Europe has nothing to do with them (their words). The froze 1,000 euros on my credit card which would cover the excess in case of an accident. The min excess would be 300 euros. They said that even if I get a minor scratch on the car (doesn't matter if it is my fault) I would automatically be charged 300 euros unless I buy their insurance. They said they would of course provide me with confirmation of those excess charges and I could try to get my money from Auto Europe. But that would be entirely between me and your company. I hired cars all my life and that was the first time I came across such an arrangement. That would certainly put me off from dealing with them again. "

" Hello, I thought the service was terrible when we arrived at Dubrovnik airport to pick up our car. Firstly we were asked to block 2.5k euros on a credit card which I only had on a debit card and the gentlemen would not allow me to use this for some reason he just kept telling me to ring my bank, this is a lot of money to have to block on a card and he then came up with the solution that I can pay (approx) another 220 Euros to add additional insurance which would also add another driver and I would then only have to block 200 euros on my card instead on the 2.5k. We didn't have any other choice but to pay this money which meant we ended up paying around £400 for a compact car which was ridiculously expensive for what it was. Then when I was shown the car I was even more appalled, there were scratches and bumps everywhere on the car. The interior was fine but we made sure we took pictures of the bumps and they noted all of the scratches on a piece of paper. Using the car was absolutely fine, it was only the service at the airport where we felt we were being ripped off. When we returned the car at Dubrovnik Airport a young man greeted me and asked if everything was ok, which I replied yes and told him we had no problems. He then went round looking at every single mark on the car and was even rubbing dust off to try and find something, even though we were covered for all of this with the extra £200 we had to pay on top of the car hire. He then told us that we had bumped into something and showed us a dent in the car. We told him that it was already there which he said it wasn't, we then got out the pictures and showed him whilst there were two other staff looking on their computers to see if this had been reported. We were very lucky that we took a picture of the dent as they were definitely trying to blame us for it. Again, the young man kept looking for anything else he could find and it wasn't until I said I was going that they brought me the form to sign so I could go and catch my flight. I found this a very stressful experience and I would never use Avant Car again. I felt like I paid a ridiculous amount for a car that wasn't in a great condition and the 2 men at the airport were trying to take us for every penny we had! "

The support staff, escorting to the cars were nice but were scared witless to speak up. They tried to suggest we damaged the car on the return. Unbelievably bad! " Overall a positive experience, but it could have been very different. We arrived late in Dubrovnik, after a delay to our flight of in excess of 3 hours. When I arrived at the car hire office, they advised me that it was their policy to not hold a vehicle beyond one hour in peak season as they had no guarantee that I would have arrived to collect my car. Being a single adult, with two teenage children, fairly stressed after a long delay to our flight, this was not the news i wanted to hear. I am fortunate in that I speak Croatian, so could understand what they were saying to each other. Once they realised that I had children, they agreed with each other that they would allow me to take the car that I had hired (which was parked outside the office!) without any additional charge. I'm not complaining in general, as the overall experience was ok, but it did leave a bit of bad taste in my mouth that they would have most probably tried to charge me to hire the car again if I had been just travelling by myself. Not a great customer experience on collection. The drop off was without any problem at all. Just waiting to now make sure that the money blocked on my card for the duration of the hire period is fully returned! "

" When I collected the car they tried to sell me insurance that I already had purchased with yourselves. At the time of hire there were approximately 14 scratches. When I returned the car the man in charge "found" what he called a new scratch which was hardly visible to the naked eye. He then proceeded to charge me 1,568 Croation krun (about £192). I put it to him that the "scratch" was negligible and that they had made no attempts to have the other scratches repaired before my hiring of the vehicle. He replied that all bodywork repairs would be seen to at the end of the summer season. I told him that I did not propose to pay what I thought was unfair and he threatened me with Police action. At the time there were 4 Nova employees in the small office and I felt intimidated. My flight was leaving 2 hours later and I was afraid of missing it. Therefore I reluctantly paid and he told me that I could claim it back from the insurance. You will shortly receive in the post the documentation. I must add that I was perfectly satisfied with Auto Europe but not with Nova and will not recommend their Dubrovnik operation to anyone. Thank you. "

The people in the office were very nice and helpful but clearly massively overstretched. Car hire process is in the dark ages with all the form filling on the day despite having put all the details in and paid in advance - it is ridiculous in this day and age. Of all the agencies at dubrovnik it was almost the only one which did not have the sign prominently displayed and easily visible from a distance. There was a sign but only at ground level. Presumably there will be less congestion when the new buildings are complete. Sign up was quick and efficient. Staff very helpful both at pick up and drop off. The car itself was great. Easy to drive and very fuel efficient.. Slightly concerned at the number of pre-existant scratches and scrapes which are presumably billed for but yet untouched. " Attempts by Car hire companies to sell additional insurance is a major problem for travellers because many do not know if they need it or not. I have come across some entirely unprincipled people who knew perfectly well that they were selling additional insurance when that insurance was already in place.I suggest that you as the agent, provide your clients with a clear statement about whether they may need additional insurance or not. this can then be given to the car hire company. You did this for me on request with an offer of phone assistance if i had any difficulty and it was most helpful "

Carwiz had a charge of 75€ in their small print though so i had to pay it or not be able to take the car! All in all i felt violated by Carwiz and would definitely not recommend using them as their charges are a con! "

" We paid for additional insurance when we booked so that we would not need to pay anything extra on arrival, they advised us that despite us paying the extra insurance to you, this did not give us complete cover and we had to pay another 200 euros , completely disgusting, they also told us this would include satnav and an extra driver, but we did not want a sat nav or an extra driver , but we had to have it anyway. The car actually had a built in sat nav, so that was a ridiculous charge. We were also told we had to pay an extra 50 euros to take the car to the islands , and 75 euros to go to Montenegro (which we have subsequently found out that as not necessary as you already have a green card) all in all a complete rip off, I would never recommend you are this company , and I will also go out of my way to ensure other people are aware of this rip off and let them know on line on all sites I can as this I an awful way to be treated upon arrival of your holiday. Drop off in Split would have been confusing as there is no easy place to park near the agency and its on a busy street, however the guys were watching for us and waved me to the correct place. And to top off the great service: My daughter left her Kindle in the car (fell between the seats) and we did not notice until the next day. They did a hard sell on insurance for "super relaxed cover" etc which gives better piece of mind if the car gets damaged or scraped etc . Possibly all the car hire firms push this so it's common with all hiring companies. We ordered a compact car but were basically forced to take an upgrade as the size of car we ordered was not available, this annoyed us as we specifically ordered the smaller car for ease of parking and driving in built up areas. The basic hire cost on auto Europe was very competitive however with insurance add ons for taking the car into Montenegro and the insurance cover, etc the overall price of renting the vehicle was not in my opinion any great bargain "

The hire rate on this occasion was very competitive, perhaps because the car was 3 years old. Nevertheless, the car was clean and the service record (found in the glove box) showed it had been maintained correctly. I am very satisfied with the value obtained from this hire. "
" The office I selected for collection was not easy to find as it is quite remote from the main centre of Dubrovnik. However, the staff were very efficient in processing my contract and handover of keys and thorough in recording condition of vehicle. " My daughter couldn't drive so we had to do additional driver, we also had to pay for crossing over into Montenegro. I accept these additional charges were necessary but they insisted on additional excess insurance because of additional driver. We could have argued but you are hot tired and long queue to collect. I think you need to make sure these company's that you have sold excess insurance and they shouldn't pursue you for more money. The outcome is we paid £182 more on top of the original £115 so it was not such a bargain . Thanks "

" The process was quick and easy, and the website provided all of the information necessary to choose which car hire company met our requirements. This was also clearly spelled out on the booking paperwork. "
" Drop off arrangements were contradictory. On pick up, we were told to drop off at a car park on the other side of the road. This wasn't well signposted, and the main road was difficult and dangerous to cross back to the airport with luggage. When arriving back at the office, we were told that the drop-off office was closed and we shouldn't have returned it there. We also had additional funds to pay for border crossing and an additional driver. Whilst we were informed of this on pick-up and told to pay at the end, we weren't informed that we could only pay this by card, and therefore were left with a substantial sum of euros in cash at the airport. " Booking was simple at excellent price including full excess protection. Having incurred cost of paying the excess I'm pleased to say that so far the claim process has been quick and painless (although I haven't yet had it confirmed/paid). "
" Fleet car rental desk kiosk is with all others. Pick up was painless and we were given brand new Skoda Octavia which was far better than I expected. Our only gripes were that on arriving at the returns site outside the airport we unloaded the car then discovered note on door to return car at pick up desk. Unfortunately a scrape on front spoiler was found so as it was a new car I had to pay the excess; the good news was that at 1980HRK (£235) it was far less than I've seen with the bigger operators where it can be 4, 5 or even more times as much. Fleet staff were polite and helpful and volunteered that AutoRental are a good agency so I should have no trouble reclaiming and offering that if I had any issues I could call them and they would provide assistance. I was travelling alone and had just arrived in Dubrovnik - it's uncomfortable feeling 'stuck'. " Extremely poorly organised rental car area in Dubrovnik, this may not be Avantcar's issue, but we waited 30 minutes to pick up a car as a single renter was completing paperwork for 2 cars. Then Avantcar did not have any vehicles we ordered, so they 'borrowed' a car from Europcar, which was fine, but it had just been returned from a rental, so only half a tank of fuel and dirty outside, inside was clean. On return to the airport at 8am, there was chaos again, a single lane open for return vehicles, with people stopping for returns blocking this lane regularly, taking at least 20 minutes to return and drop the keys. This facility must be improved or I would not fly to Dubrovnik and rent again. "
