It is hard to think of the Adriatic Sea without conjuring up images of Dubrovnik, a remarkable walled city, ancient yet still well-preserved up until today. History lovers can rejoice the fact that it is brimming with old monuments, Gothic and Baroque churches and Renaissance fountains and palaces. Time-worn cobblestone in the old town paves a whole labyrinth of narrow streets that will take you right back to the past when this city was not only a thriving port but also an independent aristocratic republic. Nowadays, Dubrovnik enjoys the reputation of an elite resort frequented by celebrities every summer. The beaches around the city are beautiful and quite diverse; you can relax in hidden caves carved from the rocks making it the perfect place for a romantic getaway, with numerous rocky or sandy beaches nearby.

There is only one terminal at Dubrovnik Airport which is divided into three main areas: Arrivals, Departures and Check-in. There are plans to extend the airport in the short-term with a more extensive commercial area and a four-star hotel. Despite being a single-terminal building, it is modern and has all of the facilities you might need, including several desks for your car rental at Dubrovnik Airport.
You can find a Duty-free shop offering local produce, perfumes and clothing. There are also several cafés where you can buy chilled soft drinks, as well as snacks and light meals. If you need to take care of money matters, there are two exchange offices, a bank and a post office located at the airport. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the terminal building. Furthermore, there are two cyber kiosks where you can log on to the Internet. Dubrovnik Airport also boasts an award-winning garden area where you can relax whilst waiting for your flight. Another option is the airport's business and VIP lounge. The airport even has a secret passage under the runway called the Durovic Cave which is Dubrovnik's latest tourism attraction, so make sure you save plenty of time to see it.
Driving your car hire from Dubrovnik Airport back to the airport is easy as it is located just 30 minutes from the city centre using the D8 road running along the coast. Public buses and shuttle coaches connect the airport with the city after the arrival of every incoming flight. Their stops are located directly outside the terminal and the route has a journey time of about 30 minutes. The airport bus is synchronised with airport arrivals and will leave you at Pile Gate. Once you are seated, the driver or assistant will come around the bus selling tickets or you can buy tickets in advance online as well. This bus also stops at the main bus station in Dubrovnik. A taxi station is in front of the airport’s main entrance and you can easily get a taxi from here. From there you also have the option of using Uber which is a little bit cheaper compared to traditional taxis. Numerous companies offer pre-booked shared or private transfers as well.
There are seven parking lots available at the airport, including a Kiss and Fly area. For short-term parking there are the P2 and P5 car parks opposite the terminal offering 5 minutes' free parking, after that the P5 hourly rate is relatively cheaper than P2. P1 is the main car park and offers 15 minutes' free parking. If you're looking for long-term parking, there is P10 with a daily rate payable. P3 and P4 are parking areas solely for buses. Automatic pay machines are next to the exit ramps and allow you to pay by cash, credit card or Paydo.
Parking in the city can be a bit challenging and expensive, as Dubrovnik was built for pedestrians. As there aren’t a lot of parking spaces in the city, underground garage parking is your best option. The largest one is near the Old Town on Zagrebacka. Street parking is priced according to zones with the most expensive zone located around Pile Gate. Prices are seasonal as well, shooting up in summer and down in off-season. Street parking machines won’t give you back any change, so make sure you've always got some coins for the meters and, do not forget to display your ticket on the dashboard. You can buy parking tickets at news-stands or purchase them by SMS if you have a mobile phone with a Croatian number.
