" Having paid for an 'Astra or similar' model, I was disappointed to be told I had been allocated a Corsa - the next size down in the Vauxhall range. I queried this and was told "The new Corsa is much bigger than the old one." It turned out not to be as large or comfortable as an Astra, so I felt cheated. The car itself was new and worked well, it was just a bit small for four adults. Also, the Keddy rep tried to sell me recovery services at £180 for the 10 days, when I had just paid half of this for a whole years cover, including Europe, for my own car! " Jamie who collected us from Inverness airport to take us around the corner to the industrial estate where Hertz are based was very friendly. 5 out of 5 We were advised there were a a couple issues with the vehicle to which seemed reasonable. Car ran fine and we had a very enjoyable holiday. One issue not checked was the tyre pressure was massively out which I corrected. However the major issue which I have put a complaint into Hertz noting a 10 day time to respond is that the rear has damages and include loss of use. No pictures, just a diagram indicating a X where apparently there is damage. Whilst no one manages the office on Sunday and the vehicle is left at the airport, a very easy process to follow, everything was smooth until I received notification of these additional charges. However I have full photographic evidence and there is no such thing as to what was placed on this diagram. The practice is very underhand and I will not let this rest whilst I await Hertz to respond. Such a pity as mentioned Jamie the driver collecting was very friendly, the receptionist was very friendly and this is such a disappointment. Other times we book with Avis or Enterprise directly as go to companies. We have used Hertz in South Africa and found them fine. So what could have been a 10 out of 10 service is very disappointing when there is zero that happened to the vehicle and nothing making contact except the air around it. I honestly would have loved to give Inverness Hertz 9 out of 10 as the air pressure on the back tyre should have been prechecked, but this whole incident and speaking with friends and work colleagues is very disappointing. " We were given a MG car which lacked power and didn't deal with the steep hills and mountains of Scotland. Avoid MG We advised that we would return car at 0600 on 26/8 which we did. We knew that there were not going to be any staff in attendance. We did ask where we could refuel and were advised Tesco. However when we arrived at the local Tesco there were experiencing some problems and said that they were unable to sell us any petrol and were unaware of any other open stations. We then went to the airport probably with about 30% fuel and I tried a few times to contact the number given on the rental agreement later that day but no one answered. Then we received a computer driven email saying that we had not returned the car full so they charged my credit card £99 including a recharge fee of £18. This £99 seemed steep and unfair and I would have asked on the phone if we could have some sort of discount because this was out of our hands and I imagine other customers on 26/8 have experienced the same problem if they were on my 0700 flight. Is it too late to get back some of this 'penal' charge? "

Due to leaving Canada a week prior and changing SIM cards. I had not seen my confirmation of car hire until May19 I called Auto Europe and was advised there was nothing short of cancellation that could be done. I had already spoken with an Avis rep and they said they had cars available and would be happy to accept a change of dates but it had to be done by Auto Europe. I even asked to speak to a supervisor or manager and my request was denied. I am disgusted at the level of customer service or care for customer satisfaction. Staff were advising some people to cancel and rebook through another car hire company. I decided to wait around to see if computers came back up. Kept getting cut off, then was told I needed to phone the AA. I asked if they could kindly text me their number or email it as had no access to pen or paper, was told 'no they could not do this'??? Got my colleague to take over phoning them, after multiple calls eventually got AA number. Then a local garage owner came to look, he couldn't fix it, then he called AA. They came and couldn't fix so towed it away. The day was now wasted. I was told I had to go back all the way to Inverness to pick up new car next day. Tuesday 16th I went back to Inverness airport to pick up new car. I arrived back at Ullapool to start my holiday after two days wasted. No once did Europecar apologise or try to offer any compensation. Overall I really disappointing experience from a rather large rental company. "

They had tried to contact me beforehand with the relevant details but apparently Auto Europe would not provide them with any of my details (quoting data protection and client confidentiality) so SIXT could not get in touch with me. I am not very happy about this. If you had cared to contact me I would have given you my approval to release my phone number and email address to Sixt. This would have prevented me from lugging my suitcase around the outside of the airport desperately trying to find the bus stop for collection by SIXT. "

" Originally booked to rent a car for 7 days starting on Monday last week. Called up on Monday to say I'd like to book for 6 instead and have Europecar hold the vehicle for me at the airport. Autocar Europe made me cancel the entire booking and charged £95 in order to get a refund, which was only offered on the basis that I had to book with Europecar for the shorter, 6 day period. In total this cost me over £105 as I had to rebook at last minute prices. Arrived at the airport and Europecar said they would very happily have held the car for a day, and they would not have charged Auto Europe for this, so they have no idea why Auto Europe charged £95. Auto Europe's response was that they would have been charged by Europecar. Overall very poor communication between the two companies. Will not be using Auto Europe again. "

" Auto Europe switched me from Europcar to Sixt at the last minute. I chose Auto Europe / Europcar because at Inverness, Europcar are "on Airport" and Sixt are not. Inverness Airport will not currently allow the Sixt minibus onto the airport so you have to walk to and from the perimeter to get the minibus .. once you have worked out where to go.. no signs. Also I had paid for the excess waiver which Sixt did not accept.. said I would have to pay them and reclaim from Auto Europe if there was a claim.. luckily there wasn't. Auto Europe and Sixt need to sort this out. "

Then we were offered, with progressive lack of enthusiasm, a VW Polo (we agreed an error - mix up with another customer), then some sort of Kia hot hatch. You'll love it, she said. I wont, I said, which is why I ordered Skoda Octavia in the first place. Her efforts to tell me that they were very similar were risible. She 'explained' that the contract said 'or similar'. I pointed to a Skoda Octavia out the front and said, you mean like that? Yes, she said, but thats just come in and not cleaned. And anyway, its an automatic (no problem) and a hybrid (no problem). I said, that'll do fine, just clean the interior. Once she found the yard chap and a few exchanges he eventually set about the clean. Including a lengthy exterior clean. We were now about an hour in. Next up. Did you know that your 'contract' means you have £1200 excess? No, because the figure was not given. We can indemnify you for that for an extra £45 a day. No. Or our lowest protection £22 a day. Times 8 days. = £176 extra on a £350 'deal'. This is robbery. And mis-direction at the initial booking stage. We felt mugged. Finally, the car arrives, wet and gleaming. No hand over. Never driven a hybrid before worked it out. Not that that mattered - it had 0% charge and remained on that for the next 8 days so it was all pretty pointless, though interesting just the same. All in all, a shambles. We got there in the end and by pure chance (me glancing out the window) to a resolution that was eventually quite satisfactory. It hats be said the return collection handling was, after an unclear start about who, what , where was first class. She even gave us a lift into Inv airport and was very cheerful and helpful re buses etc. "

" Both Sixt and myself found your hire terms and conditions, especially the Insurance aspect, totally confusing and self-contradictory. I don't think either of us are any the wiser now as to whether I was actually insured by you! You admonish your customers to check with Sixt if you wished to reduce the deductible/excess amount from £1,000 to £0. You must know that to do so is impossible - they use totally different underwriters from yourselves so they have no power to modify any policy you put in place. One has to buy a completely different policy from them, the cost of which amounts to roughly the same as what you charged for the hire! Also your contract does not break out the insurance portion of the total hire cost never mind break it down into third party, fire and theft charges, comprehensive cover charges and wheels, interiors and underside insurance. Plus, agreeing to pay UPTO £3,000 excess to your client in the event of a complete write-off is ludicrous, given a brand new vehicle with only 920 miles on the clock?! Such 'coverage' is pretty much worthless, so why bother offering it in the first place? You also levy a mysterious "airport surcharge" of 20%. If you are referring to the Air Passenger Duty levy, that is inapplicable at Inverness Airport since it enjoys an exemption from that tax. I believe you should therefore immediately refund that part of your charge to me. In view of the above, I think it highly unlikely that I would ever sue you again for my car hire. "

" I presume Kerry was the man at the desk when I picked up the car. When picking up the car initially I experienced a very forceful and inappropriate attempt to upsell. I was told that my car choice was inappropriate for the location we were driving to, on the basis of no evidence, and that we needed to switch to a different vehicle at almost double the price. The car proved to be adequate to our needs. I was then told that the insurance cover was not appropriate and that I should upgrade, again at nearly double the price of the whole expenditure. When I declined I was again told that I should at least take a medium cover option, again at a significant price increase, which I again declined. I choose your company as they appeared to offer broadly competitive value for money. Either your website conned me into purchasing an inappropriate vehicle with inappropriate cover in order to be able to upsell me at an exhorbitant rate when I arrived, or your front of desk clerk was trying to massively upsell me at pickup using what appeared to be grossly exaggerated claims about the appropriateness of my choices to that point which your website had allowed. Either way, the system as it operated left me with a difficult and uncomfortable conversation with your desk clerk, with me questioning my own choices about the vehicle and cover and anxious about the trip, and questioning the ethics of the company that had, by all measures, forced me in to this position or face a massive increase in charges. For this reason I will not be using your company again and will be making my experience and cautionary tale known on the relevant comparison site where I found your initial quote. "

Drop off was easy and the price was good but for the poor experience collecting the car has made me think I would rather pay the extra and not stand for that length of time outside for no good reason. " Auto Europe were reasonably priced, and website easy to use. I wouldn't recommend though, as our experience of picking up a car at Inverness airport from Europcar was awful. "
" On arrival at airport for pick up, very long wait to be processed at Europcar counter - waited 40+ mins before being called forward. The hire car was filthy dirty - to the point where I couldn't see if there was any existing damage, so I was reluctant to accept it. The guy at the car pick up area offered to have it washed - but we had two very small children who were tired and fed up with all the waiting...so I said I'd just accept it as it was, but made sure a note was made on the rental agreement to reflect my concerns. Once we'd loaded the boot with our cases, pushchair, gags etc...and secured the child car seats etc (all this in the pouring rain I might add), I then found that there was a problem with the 'connection' between the key fob and ignition...the car would not start as the car was not receiving any signal!!! You can imagine how frustrated and annoyed I was by now.... I was told I'd have to go back into the terminal and discuss the problems with the counter staff... To be fair - the counter staff were very efficient, and quickly allocated me another car, which was great, but by then we (2 women, a 7yr old and 18 month baby) had spent well over an hour trying to sort all this out. SO......back out in the pouring rain - transfer all the bags and car seats to the replacement car, and we were finally on our way. Autoeurope may be reasonably priced but in future I will be looking to book through another supplier if they continue to use Europcar. "

" The day after collection a display notification that service was due in 500 miles appeared. Given that we had paid for a two week hire it was obvious we could well exceed this mileage. Within days, and in a very remote area of Scotland, a spanner and oil can symbols were displayed and then a message on the screen saying oil level low, causing us great anxiety and stress. We checked the oil and it was very low. Eventually a garage was located and oil was purchased and we subsequently topped it up. Several days later the spanner symbol appeared again with warning lights - there was no hand book for us to refer to in order to find out what the warnings meant. The worry of an unreliable car caused a tremendous amount of stress which we should not have not to experience - the car should obviously not have been hired to us in that condition. On returning the car to Inverness we explained the situation to the member of staff checking in the car, gave him the receipt for the oil and said we wanted to make an official complaint. He said he would report it to his manager and we would be contacted. No contact has been made. A road worthy car should have been expected giving a stress free holiday - this was not the case. We cannot stress enough how badly we feel we have been treated. We now await your response. "

" Hi I have rented car from Inverness Airport shop. I charged for after hours? £60. The time showed in rental agreement 22:37 check out and some reason payment taken 21:49 I think it means 22:49? But I would like to say it's wrong as I phone your shop directly at 3pm on 15/10/18 they told me don't worry we close 10:30pm. Anyways I can confirm I was at your shop couple minutes before 10:30pm but the only advisor at the desk was serving to another customer so I was in the line to wait for my turn. It took almost 7 to 8 minutes for her to serve me due to customer before me. When she served me it was almost 10:37/38 pm and I explain her that I was not having baby car seat and it's took another 5 minutes to cancel that from my order. Then when she told me £60 charges because I was there after 22:30(closing time) even she realised I wasn't but the computer was not allowing to remove that changes? I think her name was Jo and felt she was new or trainee? I was very upset but due to customer waiting behind me I just paid and left the desk. I know this is absolutely wrong even I was in the waiting due to she was serving another customer and even you can check it on cameras if you have one. It's not my fault if I have to wait. This was my first experience to hire car from you and sadly it didn't go well. I want to request you to investigate issue properly and refund £60 unfair charges. "

After spending 30 mins getting the codes were told that our car had been rented to someone else as we were more than 2 hours late - due to late flight arrival which should have been obvious to front desk. Had to get angry before finally a car was magically found for us. Our suspicion is that we were sent away to get dvla code because they knew the car was not there. "

With out any explanation the two employees tried to take £1000 of my debit card and mumbled something about getting a whole new windscreen. If anything the car reqired a chip mending. " Arrived at car hire counter. Served very efficiently. Then the problems started, we ordered a child seat. We did not know how to fit this to the car and was told that they could not fit this as they were not insured to do this. We struggled very hard to fit the Child chair. Then the we had more trouble trying to alter the chair to fit child. Yet when we asked for help they could not as they said they did not know how to. Asked if they had an instruction booklet, the reply was no !!!!!!! We ordered a child seat to protect our child. You supplied the chair with no help or instruction. Very poor service. "

Also I had called Europcar and was told this offfce was open 1100 to 1700 on Sundays and that it was not possible to drop a car off after hours as there was nowhere to drop the keys. This is not correct, key drop off after hours is possible. "

The local offices were completely un-contactable by either myself or their own central booking organisation. We were 'upgraded' to a mini cabriolet, this was fun as there were only 2 of us but would not have been acceptable under normal circumstances as we booked a saloon car and usually travel with 3 children.
