" The car pick up was not acceptable, auto Europe should know where the desk of Carjoy is in the airport and also what this is called locally. The advice to walk from the airport was simply wrong. Please make sure you provide details of what the local desk is called and where it is located when you provide the car rental details. "

" The only positives of my rental experience were the fact I had a car and I caught my flight. I didn't notice the small print about Maxx Europe not being based at the airport - my fault. However, I was picked up and got to the dealership smoothly. My credit card was not recognised - a Nationwide Visa. There was no issue at Nationwide so I can only assume suspicious transactions have been flagged at some point. The inconvenience of the drop off for the car was that it needs to be at the dealership which is only open at certain times. You could only see the opening times upon paying for the car, therefore; to avoid paying €50 I called Maxx Europe to ensure there would be someone there at 8am. They assured me there would be which would give me just enough time for my flight. After two phone calls, one not picked up and the other handled very rudely; I was eventually met by Julian at 8.20. He was really nice and apologetic but the experience was needlessly stressful. I was assured I would be met to handover the car at 8am. I was not. I found the whole rental experience frustrating and will never use Auto Europe again or recommend anyone use Maxx Rent. For me the moral of this story is not to use a comparison site and use people at the airport. Anything else is a false economy. On a plus note the car was clean and easy to use. "

" AutoEurope yes, they are fine but never again with carwiz. The hardback was fine as it was a different agent but I would have bet if it had been the same agent he would have found a fault. And it was all because he wanted to up sale on the excess insurance and I expect many so fall for it. We used yourselves as your price was so good but if you have to add all the insurance it is higher and this needs to be considered and if you already have your own you should not have to justify it. As I said before this was the first time it had been really intimidating "

We have our own excess policy as we have more than 1 holiday a year and the agent said it was invalid and wanted to look at it and said it would not cover anything . I did not let him see this as I felt threatened . We walked to the car parking area and did the rental paperwork on the car bonnet. There was no one available to inspect the car on return (08:30am) and the keys were left at an empty Europcar kiosk (as requested). The fuel policy was to return with same amount as on collection, not 'full to full' as advertised. It was hard to find the rep in the terminal initially as there is no desk and he was sat in the cafe. Fortunately I was helped by a kind lady from one of the rival car rental companies. I called the Active phone number and no one answered. " There were 3 problems, the last of which was in my opinion a complete rip-off. Active is just a bunch of local fraudsters looking to make money from tourists. Here were the issues with the car hire: 1 When we came to pick up the car there was nobody to help us. There was a number on a piece of paper at the desk, which we phoned, but they only turned up 45 minutes later. 2 The car they gave us was old - 45,000 miles on the clock and lots of damage (but more on that later). Furthermore, the fuel tank was half full! How are we supposed to bring it back exactly half full? I think it is their way of saving a bit of money because they know we will probably over-estimate when we refill the tank, thus giving them a bit of petrol for free. 3 Here's the sting. When we returned it they pointed out salt stains on a couple of the seats, and charged us 100 Euros for cleaning it. There are several things wrong with this, but the main one was that they were charging us for internal damage when they did not do an internal checks when handing over! I felt slightly dumb about this as we didn't do any internal check either, but we have never been charged for the state of the interior, and i must have rented 100 cars in my time. Total rip-off. "

I arrived in pula ,went to carwiz desk then was immediately harressed to take their insurance to which i told them i had to extra insurance,desk clerk said she had no copy of this, i then showed her the confirmation but again she said she had no copy of this. I told her i was not taking her insurance went to pay security deposit with card and it got declined tried again declined ,I then said could i not sign using card ,she said No. I then tried to use my visa debit card she said she i would now then need to take their insurance which came to roughly £261 at which point I just said forget it and paid £100 taxi to resort. While waiting for taxi next customer recieved the same treatment only they paid the extra insurance. on reaching resort taking to other guests they also had the same problems with credit cards being declined bit they were allowed to sign instead. on arriving home i tried credit card and lo and behold pin number is correct. I hire cars all the time on holiday mostly in the USA and have never had any problems,I now wish i had took advice from previous comments on tripadvisor because they were 100% correct. I am not looking for any money back or compensation but you should look at your suppliers who are damaging your reputation. "

We were not informed that we would be charged extra for aged 71 driver although his passport details was checked. When we did drop off, I was charged 560 Croatian Kuna (approx £65) because of additional driver's age. This should have been made clear at the start so that we could make a decision whether to go ahead. I felt this was unfair and poor service. we and other customers also had to wait 20 minutes for Air Rent staff to attend the office at 9.20am. "

When someone did arrive they tried to sell additional insurance products in a very aggressive way and using incorrect statements. Instead of SUV which I ordered, I was offered Skoda Fabia instead; opnly after treat to call Autoeurope I was offered more satisfactory replacement - VW Passat; 3. Only few min after taking the car, a tyre deflated. Had to inflate it several times a day; 4. Using a spare tyre was impossible as the tool set was incomplete; 5. Had to call carWiz service (road assistance not included or I was not given one) which came after 9.5 hrs; 6. The carWiz charged me Euro 449.82 for flat tyre as it was my fault; 7. Complained to carWiz customer service but they were not bordered yet to even answer my complaint; 8. Avoid at every cost! "

" Air rent car was good but i had to pay an extra 118€ on top of yhe £76 i had paid autoeurope. This was to improve yhe insurance so that the excess was brought down from approx 1200€ to 500€. This also meant that should there be a small incident i would not need a police report for which there is apparently a charge of 300 € by the police. I feel that Autoeurope should have made the large xs clear before i booked the car. I was only made aware of it a couple of days before my holiday. Had i known this before i would have chosen another option "

" Overall, very pleased with the service from this company, in particular the staff member who checked the car over both before and after our use. While the counter staff were not exactly 'smiley and inviting', they were swift and communicated all that was needed with no attempt to upsell or push additional services (which had we wanted we would already have chosen in the on-line booking process). We were accompanied to our vehicle and the check of the car's condition done in our presence. While the car had obviously had many markings by previous occupants both on paintwork and upholstery, these were all noted down. The young gentleman was very diligent and polite. On our return we parked up and, by the time we had lifted our baggage from the boot, the same member of staff arrived (a walk of 100 metres or so), as he said he had seen us arrive. It was so helpful not to have to go to the desk and back again at that point in our journey. He again was diligent but not in a manner that suggested or made us feel like he expected to find additional damage, allowing us to continue our homeward journey swiftly and unstressed. (After a very different experience using a different company some months ago, this was a breath of fresh air) "

" Just before our holiday we were informed that ridecar couldn't fulfill the rental so we were moved to a company called air rent. They were good on pick up although didn't have the same size car- they gave us the option of waiting an hour or taking a smaller one and delivering bigger car later. We took the latter option and the car was delivered to us at our resort, which was good. Drop off was quite slow had to wait ages to be served and took ages to go through the process. Here is the list of things about the car state when we got it: - filthy inside and outside - tank filled up to 5/8 - a few bumps - front tires used up to the indicator, could have explored at any time on the highway considering the heat and the drive. About the counter staff: - InActive and unwilling to find solutions. - when I got to the reception with my phone (couldn't find a way to print my voucher) the person didn't wanted to help me find a solution to have it sent to him. I had to insist for 10 minutes for him to finally let me send the voucher to the companies whatsapp so that he could process it. I event realized the number was ment for that , he simply didn't want to help me out at first. - when handing the car back the guy charged me 30 euros for 1/8 of gas missing... saying that this was the charge for going them self's to fill it.... as it wasn't full in the first place when I picked it up I doubt they actually filled it... Finally, everything could have gone great, the car was not so hold and if had been clean and the staff helpful they this could have gone very differently. Unfortunately they were really bad at their job and I would even to the point of putting lives in danger considering the state of the tires. I have pictures and videos I would be glad to share with you ! "

" Arrived at the desk and waited as there was a customer ahead of me. When I did get attended to I was informed my car was not available as the previous customer using the vehicle had not returned it yet, they tried to offer me a smaller vehicle, to which I said would not be suitable. I then said if they would like to upgrade it the girl spoke to her boss and I never got an answer back on it. I then suggested that if they paid for a taxi to my hotel they could deliver the car when it had been returned (this was only about 6 miles away) again there was no response. Aledgedly the car had then been returned and they were going to clean it before we could take it and they bought us a coffee while we waited for this to be done and they would ring me when it was ready. Over an hour later I walked back to the desk and they said oh yes your car is now ready (no call). We just needed to do the paperwork they then tried to charge me €32.50 because it was Croatia day and a public holiday and was trying to say I was lucky they were there in the first place. All in all the service was poor, it made a poor start to our holiday "

" The initial staff were extremely helpful as we had made the booking quite last minute and never received a confirmation email with a car hire voucher. The car was clean but had some damage on it. The fuel tank was recorded as being 5/8 full when we collected it. When we used the car we put 200 kuna of fuel in it which filled it from empty up to 5/8 again. However, the journey to the airport meant that the tank at drop off was 3/8 full. We were happy to pay for the difference in fuel. Active demanded 200kuna to cover the 2/8 less fuel!! They insisted us that if we didn't pay this in cash it would cost much more if they put the charge'through the official system'. It spoiled the whole experience to be honest. So we won't be recommending them or using them again. "

The scratch was underneath the front of the car which I had not inspected but will do in future because of this experience. I have never had to inspect the underneath of a hire car before in my life. After a long stressful period the agent said that I didn't have to pay anything as it was covered on the insurance. Surely they could have checked this before wasting 30 minutes blaming me for something that was obviously there prior to my hiring the car but as I say l couldn't prove it as I don't normally inspect the underneath of a hire car. " On arrival at Pula Airport we were told we were too early and the car we had booked was not yet available and we were told to wait. The wait in the end was 1hr 45mins. When the time came for us to return to the desk, we waited 20 mins while your colleague was summoned from a shopping trip by her boss. We were then told our car was still not available so they would give us another, slightly bigger, car. We were asked to put down a deposit of 10,000 kuna which equates to over £1000 which was over the credit limit of my card and therefore declined. Thankfully my partner had his card. As it was raining your colleague was unwilling to show us the car before we signed the vehicle condition form. We then couldn't leave the airport car park due to an apparent problem with the exit barrier camera not recognising Air Rent cars. Despite tying to contact the Air Rent desk we ended up being helped by an airport employee to finally get on our way more than 2 hours after landing. "

We took out the excess reimburesed insurance that we have had to use for the dent, and paid out within 3 days of being contacted. Our party have used Auto Europe for 2 years and will visit your site first next year, but will keep away from Ridecar as we will probably wont be going back to Croatia for next years holiday. "
" We had to wait just over 90 mins for the vehicle as it was not ready. Driving off we noticed we did not have a full tank of fuel. We returned it with roughly the same amount of fuel on the understanding to talk to them. We arrived at Ridecar office at 8. 10 and no one was there, all the other rental offices were open. we also wanted to discuss a small dent on the wheel arch that occurred on a rock when parking. We were disappointed when we were charged £80 for fuel. On challenging Ridecar they sent me a signed copy of document stating the vehicle will be returned with a full tank of feull. I have put it down to experience and next time we wont penny pinch and for £10 we could of returned the car with full tank of fuel. "

" Booking through auto europe was ok, but I was not clear that the car was being provided by Nova. This meant that I did not have the opportunity to do any research on Nova's reputation before committing myself. "

Got to my accommodation at 01,30 in the morning having had to pay for taxi.I have hired 20 cars abroad in the last 18 months and this is the first time I have ever had an issue! "
" I have emailed a complaint to you directly already. I had to pay 80 euros to get to my destination as Nova did not meet me with my car (my flight was delayed). They also accused me of lying saying they were there and I was in error. They delivered the vehicle but charged me. The vehicle was not full of fuel (driven from Porec to Lanterna resort) when delivered. The gap dropped to 7/8's in the first 5km. In short I did not have the car when I most needed it (airport to destination and shop for essentials first day), I had to pay 110 euros that I should not have and I returned the car full. I could have used a premium company with an office for this additional cost. "

" Auto Europe could not help us satisfactorily with our problem. We paid money up front for a rental which did not materialise, then Auto Europe would not arrange a replacement car for us. We were told we would have to make a new booking for a car, paying out AGAIN, and then claim back the money for the original rental when we returned home. It is difficult to contact Auto Europe by telephone, and I cannot fill in the claims form online because the options given for a customer complaint do not match our issue. I've emailed and sent details of our booking and our problem, but am still awaiting a satisfactory response and a refund. I am disgusted with this service and would never use Auto Europe again, nor would I recommend friends and family to do so. We ended up paying a higher rate for a smaller car for less time on holiday, when we had already paid money in good faith to yourselves for car hire for our entire stay. In twenty years of hiring cars we have never encountered such appalling service, and are now considering legal advice if we don't get a swift refund, some kind of compensation and an apology. "

This caused the headache above with Air Rent who expected a police report for any damage as we weren't insured directly with them. It would be helpful if this was made absolutely clear when taking out this Insurance. "

I dont understand why general wear and tear is not considered as normal. It just felt like we were being scammed. Thankfully we weren't charged in the end but we had to argue unnecessarily about it. As a result of this I will not be using Air Rent again. It seems very short sighted to look for the tiniest of scratches so you can get a bit of immediate cash out of your customers, but as a result those same customers will not use your service again. " It was really nice to have a care rental representative waiting for me on arrival. checking went very quick. The drop-off was totally bad experience. The car rental representative called me to 1h before drop off time saying he will not be able to pick up keys from me. The actual car came from Nova company, which does not have offices at the airport. But surely they should have invested in a post boxes where people could just drop things off for quick checkout?! Finally when car company managed to sent someone else to take the keys off, I was asked to provide credit card to secure deposit - this was already done on the check in so I was bit surprised about the procedure. Moreover, the guy scanned it 3 times, each time asking for PIN and authorisation. Which was explained as needed to secure deposit and then unblock it. This is something I have never came across with other companies and still need to check transactions on my account as I do not believe they were right. "

We literally drove around the busy centre of Split for an hour with increasingly frantic phone calls to the office trying to find a place to leave the car. I find it astonishing that a car hire company can operate without an actual drop off location. I may recommend Nova but not for anyone going to Split. "

ABC Rent then proceeded to charge us (we had 2 cars with them) a 70 euro per car NO SHOW FEE as our flight had been delayed and we weren't there on time. The NO SHOW FEE per car cost more than each car did for the week. I ohoned Auto-Europe immediately who said that they could not help us other than arrange two different cars at a much higher cost to what we had paid originally. I obviously declined, and paid each NO SHOW FEE on my card. I have contacted auto-Europe upon my return, and am awaiting to hear from them concerning this unacceptable episode. "

" Should have had more information on the voucher about how to contact the Pula office of Nova rentacar. The only information as the switchboard, which didn't have an option for the Pula office. This added to the delay and meant I made more phone calls than I needed to. "

I had to phone the Nova office (and there was no option on the switchboard to choose the Pula office) and was told to wait at the Hertz desk, which I did. Eventually Antonio came over and asked me to wait because he was dealing with another customer. When I finally got to the car it transpired that Nova had hired it from Hertz to rent to me, as they had no spare cars because they had had lots of 'walk ins'! This is despite the fact that I had booked and paid for my car months earlier. The car I was given had many scratches and a large crack on the passenger side of the windscreen as well as over 36000 k on the clock. No hubcabs on one side... I was just about to drive off when I noticed that the tank was only half full. This was despite me paying for a full to full fuel policy. After some protracted negotiation Antonio and Ivan agreed to drive us to Pula in the car and fill the car up with petrol, which is how I returned it. We were the last people to leave the airport, so it wasn't a fast getaway. Dropping off the car was fine, but it would have been helpful if I had been given the Pula office phone number to tell them I was there. "

I suppose more money than sense! Anyway, they are the first port of call when renting the car! I line the choices, money back in case of cancellations and great prices and curtioys staff when needed to cancell my reservations. "

" I wasn't expecting to have to leave a 950 euro deposit for the duration of the hire period. I was told that if I had an accident, i would have to pay the excess and then reclaim it from Auto Europe. This should be made clear when hiring. "
" The car wasn't well valeted, the booking in & out process was very slow because of under staffing. Admittedly, the customer in front (there were only 2 of us) had booked the wrong dates and sorting that out took time. However I consider half an hour from arriving at the desk to getting the car to be unacceptable. The return was only a little better, which is more stressful when you have a plane to catch. I am always concerned when there is pre-existing damage, even if is logged. There were several scrapes and dents on the car - presumably previous clients had paid a fine for those to be repaired. "

" Cross border costs should be declared prior to booking not after. Why should I be charged to cross an EU border? There is no charge from England to Scotland so why from Croatia to Slovenia? You should challenge your suppliers on this issue and the legalities of them imposing it. "

" I was given a large enough car but it had done 186000km already and had only 1/4 of tank of petrol full, not full tank as is common with all major rental companies. The car was not clean particularly and worked OK, not great. "
